The IMOCA 60 Class yacht Initiative Coeur 4, FRA 109 was designed by Sam Manuard and launched on 30 July 2022[1] With the hull moulding done by Pauger Composites in Hungary under the guidance of Black Pepper Yachts.[2][3]

The boat was built using the hull moulds created for IMOCA 60 L'Occitane which were then used to create which was originally started speculatively OceansLab.

Characteristics

[edit]

When Initiatives-Coeur decided to acquire the boat under construction, architect Samuel Manuard had already worked extensively on this version 2. Samantha Davies said, "there are quite a few changes, especially in terms of weight distribution.[4] Changes compared to Armel Tripon's L'Occitane:

  • The position of the mast and of the keel is changed.[5]
  • To comply with the 2021-2025 gauge, there is no Nomex in the shell .[6]
  • The 9.6 m3 foils located at the top of the Freeboard of L'Occitane are replaced by foils respecting the new gauge (not more than 8 m3).[7] It was therefore necessary to implant them below. Attempts have been made to make them more tolerant.[4][8] They should allow early de-watering, and be more stable offshore. Wells and systems are also different.[6]
  • To be in compliance with the new rules, the boom is monotype.[6]
  • The deck is different, as the mould of that of L'Occitane has been destroyed.[9]
  • The interior layout, ergonomics of the cockpit and life cell are choices of Samantha Davies, the fruit of her experience in the Vendée Globe.[6][10]
