[edit]First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 모도〮 (Yale: mwòtwó), analyzable as 몯 (mwòt-, “to gather”) + 오 (-wo, “adverbializer”) although rarely perceived as such by modern speakers. Compare 자주 (jaju), 너무 (neomu), 비로소 (biroso), et cetera.
