[edit]From Ottoman Turkish چیقش (çıkış), from Proto-Turkic *čïk-ïĺ. By surface analysis, çık- + -ış. Cognate with Karakhanid جِقِشْ (čïqïš, “going out, way out, profit”), Kazakh шығыс (şyğys, “exit, east”), Kyrgyz чыгыш (cıgış, “exit”), Uzbek chiqish (“exit, emergence”).
