Etymology

From Middle High German zogeren (to tug, pull around), from an iterative form of Middle High German zogen (to pull, tear, tug), from Old High German zogōn, from Proto-West Germanic *togōn (to tug, pull, tow), ultimately from the root of ziehen (to pull). Cognate with German Low German tögern.
