[edit]From Ottoman Turkish یدك (yedek), from the obsolete verb yedmek (“to lead, tow”). Compare Old Turkic [script needed] (yet-, “to tow”).
Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yetgek, “saddlebag, bundle”), Azerbaijani yedək, etc.
