[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *roggō, whence also Old Saxon roggo, Old Dutch *roggo, and Old Frisian rogga. Old English ryġe and Old Norse rugr are also closely related. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wrugʰyo- (compare Russian рожь (rožʹ) and Old Prussian rugis).
