[edit]From a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia, compare local Latin parămus, from a superlative of Proto-Indo-European *per- (“before”) meaning "the highest" vel sim. Cognate with, for example, Pali parama (“superior, excellent”).[1]
This same element is present in Hispanic autochthonous personal names (Anparamo), theonyms (Paramaecus) and toponyms (Paramica) recorded in Roman inscriptions, or by Greek or Roman authors.[2]
