[edit]From Malay kebun, from Classical Malay kebun, from Old Javanese kĕbon, kĕbwan (“garden, plantation”) (compare to Javanese ꦏꦼꦧꦺꦴꦤ꧀ (kebon, “garden, plantation”)), affixed form of bwah, wwah (“fruit”) (compare Indonesian buah (“fruit”), hence reconstructed as buah + ke- -an).
