    Inherited from Proto-Tupi-Guarani *okẽn, from Proto-Tupian *ekʷẽn, from *ekʷ + *en. By surface analysis, oka (house) +‎ ena (mouth).

    Cognate with Guaraní okẽ (door), Karitiâna akãn (village).
