Directly, from Ottoman Turkish قره دكز (Kara Deñiz). Perhaps going back to Proto-Turkic *kara teŋiŕ (literally north sea; black sea) (compare Chuvash Хура тинӗс (Hura t̬inĕs)) or earlier (compare Mongolian Хар тэнгис (Xar tengis)), equivalent to kara (black; north) +‎ deniz (sea).
