Hey! The photo you uploaded here from flikr has a terrible colour cast so I've created a copy with more accurate colours. It's here if you'd like to upload it in place of the old one. Obviously it's licensed under share alike. I'll put it under share alike 3.0 as creativecommons.org recommends me to. --Robhlam 03:15, 28 February 2008 (UTC)robhlam Fair enough. Out of interest, what is it that you don't like about the new image? (So I don't make the same mistakes again!) BTW, thanks for uploading the photo in the first place. --Robhlam 14:33, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Please check that I have corrected your nomination as you would wish. Yes, it is perfect. Thank you very much.
Sorry I have made big mistakes this morning in the "Featured picture candidates". I wanted to correct them, but I guess that was not perfect. Thanks to corrected that. Kuxu76 14:09, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

My photo in "featured picture candidates"
[edit]I am very thankful for your correction and nomination! On improving the image, I am however completely clueless. It isn't the original digital photo I uploaded, but will this be any better, since it is taken with an only 3 mpixel camera?
By the way, I have seen your photos on your userpage. They are very impressive! As an amateur, I am honored by a professional as you taking interest and time on one of my photos. Thank you very much! Please post your answer on my my talk page

Featured picture nomination
[edit]Hey Gordo - have you seen an image of mine was nominated for Featured Picture? Cormaggio 00:28, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
bmi aircraft
[edit]Thanks for letting me know my bmi pic was Featured Pic today, I would not have known otherwise. I'm surprised it came out reasonably sharp because I have a cheapish Olympus digital and was using it at the extreme of its telephoto which is times 10. Thanks again - Arpingstone 17:40, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- It was "Picture of the Day" rather than "Featured Picture" but I think a very fine image, with all the detail as well. LoopZilla 13:17, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
I did take this image, why do you ask? The licencing states that I am the author, although it could be better spelt out in the summary. Diliff 00:20, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I would like the wording of the licence to be more explicit. Perhaps I should get the template changed! Thanks LoopZilla 08:50, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:All Saints, Poplar.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:All Saints, Poplar.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Abbey Mills
[edit]Hi.
I noticed you have some great pictures of the Abbey Mills area. A note and a question, if I may. Firstly, I have deleted Image:Sewage Pipe near Abbey Mills.jpg as it was a poorer resolution copy of Image:Sprial Pipe3.jpg. I made the change to w:Greenway, London. The question is that I am working on w:Abbey Mills Mosque and I think it would really help the article if we could have a free-use picture of the proposed site to put into the lead. I've already used your Image:New abbey mills pumping station.jpg image in the article as well. Thanks again for your great work! -- Avi 17:55, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have an enwiki peer review open on w:Abbey Mills Mosque now, and, quite soon, I'f like to send it to FAC, so if it is not too much trouble, if you could provide a free-use picture of the site, that would be FANTASTIC. Thank you! -- Avi 04:48, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! I had to delete a file uploaded by User:AtelierJoly. As this account does not seem to be used any more, I'm writing to you. Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 18:42, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello LoopZilla,
this is Juergen from germany. I'm working in a institute named IQB (Institut zur Qualitätsentwicklung im Bildungswesen). We would like to use one of these images (Escalators_Canary_Wharf.jpg or Canary_Wharf_Escalators_2.jpg) for a comparing test in a mathematical context. The IQB isn't a commercial institute and there are no financial advantages. But we cannot use the images with the share alike license. Is there a possibility to get a special license? The image will only used in this test context. If you wish we can attribute your name.

Commercial use of a photograph authored by you
[edit]Dear Mr. Gordon Joly:
I am about to publicize a website containing a photograph of yours, obtained through Wikimedia Commons. The end result is the following:
http://sites.google.com/site/aldoloup/articulos/la-ruta-al-lejano-oriente
The same page in English, Portuguese and maybe other languages will follow. A printed version is envisioned too.
I want to be sure that you have no complaints about this use of your work. I really don't want to have problems over copyright issues down the road.
I want to thank for the opportunity to use your work in commercial ventures.
If you have any issue with this use of your work, please let me know it immediately.
I am acting in good faith, in the firm belief that the license for commercial use that appears in the Wikimedia Commons page of your photograph is completely valid, accurate and current.
Thank you very much.

Hello Loopzilla,
Although you took the above photo seven and a half years ago, do you happen to have any recollection as to which street or locality in East London the Olympic Cafe pictured was? I've been searching around with the aim of updating the description and categorising the file accordingly (as it's currently in an "unidentified building" category), so any possible info at all would be most helpful. Alas, I've not yet been able to find any trace of this establishment on the web. Best Regards, Rept0n1x (talk) 19:14, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! Rept0n1x (talk) 20:30, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Just to say, thanks again for the location identification, much appreciated. I have now moved the file to more specific cats. Based on the postcode (which I was subsequently able to find on your corresponding Flickr page), the site appears to be just east of the River Lea and therefore in the London Borough of Newham. Although if this is in any way wrong then please feel free to correct my changes. It seems it's on one of those streets the Google car did not get down, so the estimated geotag I have placed on the file is purely based on postcode rather than visual identification. Best Regards Rept0n1x (talk) 08:00, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the more specific location. I had put it in Tower Hamlets originally, but that postcode then seemed to show a location on the other side of the Lea, causing me to change it. I've now corrected the estimated geotag to the vicinity of Twelvetrees Crescent and Maltings Close, clearly in Tower Hamlets. Cheers, Rept0n1x (talk) 08:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello again LoopZilla,
Trying to identify the location of the above photo. A few clues seem to point to the corner of St Leonard's Road and Bright Street E14? Although looks like there are terrace houses there now. If you happen to get a moment, would be very grateful if can confirm or correct my current thinking on this. It seems the locality has changed almost beyond recognition in recent years. Thanks again for any possible pointers, Cheers Rept0n1x (talk) 16:24, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- I **think** this is Bright Street. The wall at the is the railway... DLR. Gordo (talk) 18:11, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you again for the quick reply! Here are some of the clues which led me to Bright Street:-
- From the sun angle and time of day, it looks roughly like a westerly view - which Bright Street matches well.
- Tower blocks on the Lansbury Estate (Maidstone House with Osterley House behind and to the left according to Google maps I think). Bright street is the only street in the area I can match this exact viewing angle of these tower blocks from.
- Google Street view at this point [2] appears to show the "School/children crossing" road sign and also the unique small red-brick wall next to it with darker bricks above - just about the only part of Bright Street in the photo which still appears the same now as it did then.
- Using Google Earth (as opposed to Google maps), when I retrieve the satellite views for 2003, the terrace houses on the corner are replaced by buildings which appear to match the shape of the "Headaches" shop. Also planning permission for those houses was not filed until 2003, so likely not built until at least 2004 at the earliest.
- Although the pavement has been re-laid, the slightly obtuse angle of the street corner on Google Street View, with respect to St Leonard's Road looks the same as on this photo.
- Finally in the 2003 Google Earth Satellite view, there is a warehouse past the end of Bright Street, (in front of the tower blocks), with a shape and skylights that exactly match that shown in the background of yourr photo.
So I think we have nailed it, I will update the file's geographical co-ordinates soon. Certainly one of the most changed scenes I've yet dealt with!
Thanks very much again for your input. Rept0n1x (talk) 19:23, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

- Great stuff, thanks for the confirmation. There's certainly no substitute for local knowledge! Rept0n1x (talk) 21:07, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- All done now - I've updated the file. Again please feel free to correct any mistakes I may have made either with the description or categories. Cheers! Rept0n1x (talk) 21:22, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear LoopZilla,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
