We're going to need a lot of tissues for this one.

One of Nicholas Sparks’ most iconic love stories is getting a new lease on life.

A Walk to Remember, Sparks’ 1999 bestselling novel about a quiet, religious girl and a rebellious teenage boy, was first made into a movie in 2002. Now, 23 years later, Deadline reports that the beloved coming-of-age tale is getting a reboot

Monarch Media has reportedly secured the rights to A Walk to Remember, with plans to develop a movie reboot alongside the original film’s producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry. The tear-jerking original, which starred Mandy Moore and Shane West, was directed by Adam Shankman. A director has yet to be announced for the new project, nor has a cast been revealed.

"I am so grateful to Steve [Barnett] and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever," Di Novi said in a statement to Deadline.

Set in North Carolina, A Walk To Remember follows jaded high school senior Landon Carter (West) who falls in love with his shy, overachieving classmate Jamie Sullivan (Moore) who is secretly dying from leukemia.

"Someone could redo this film," Moore told People in 2022. "I would love to see it. It's been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we've earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point.”

This is a developing story.
