Das Experiment (2001)
I love these movies about experiments, as good as the later 2010 versio
I love these movies about experiments, as good as the later 2010 version, The Experiment, also based on the novel by Mario Giordano and the Stanford Prison Experiment, as well as the experiment at school, The Wave, with unimaginable and bordering on absurd results... The real experiment was not so tragic, considering that it ended on the 6th day, but just as humiliating and sadistic, to think that most of us could behave like that, the experiment was successful...
Uma equipe de cientistas arregimenta 20 presos para uma experiência psicológica em troca de um prêmio em dinheiro. Os prisioneiros são divididos em dois grupos.
Young Guns II (1990)
A very weak sequel compared to the powerful 1988 film
The film tells the story of William H. Bonney, known as 'Billy the Kid', in southern Mexico. He was part of "The Regulators", a group of six outlaw gunmen. Furious with yet another escape orchestrated by "The Kid", John S. Chisum decides to hire Pat Garrett, an old companion of Billy's, to find him in Mexico and kill him. The story of the film was told by Brushy Bill Roberts, a man who in the 1940s appeared claiming to be Billy the Kid.
A very weak sequel compared to the powerful 1988 film, however here we have a delicious soundtrack (Jon Bon Jovi), which brings nostalgia and melancholy, good fun moments, great action scenes, such as the scenes of the falling horses, and the delivery of the indigenous man as a Greek gift, not very relevant compared to the original, a little uninteresting in its course, but without a shadow of a doubt a good film, with great names in cinema, in their wise and beautiful youth...
Young Guns (1988)
A great American western film from the 80s,
1878, New Mexico. John Tunstall collects young guns from the streets and takes them to work on his ranch, in addition to teaching them to read and educate them. However, he is a hindrance to a wealthy rancher, Lawrence G. Murphy, as they both compete for the sale of meat. One day Tunstall is killed by Murphy's henchmen and Judge Wilson can do nothing, since Sheriff Brady is one of Murphy's henchmen. Attorney Alex McSween persuades the judge to appoint William Bonney, Josiah Gordon Scurlock, Richard Brewer, Chavez y Chavez, Steve Stephens and Charles Bowdre, who worked for John, as deputies with powers to arrest murderers.
A great American western film from the 80s, with great names, the great cast is justified by the great story in a lovely, fun, family-friendly script of union, fraternity, friendship, and the search for justice. I love these biographical westerns portrayed in a light, unpretentious and comical way, a snippet of the life of Billy, the Kid and the "Regulators", the wronged vigilantes, excellent production, captivating characterization, agile, captivating script... Let's go to the sequel...
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (2008)
Lovely, not a technical masterpiece, far from it, convenient and not very surprising
The story of a doctor who is researching a rare Amazonian plant that has the property of separating people's souls, bringing out the dark side of each one. At the same time, a series of brutal murders begin to occur throughout the city. The doctor knows that this is not a simple coincidence, since in fact he has freed his evil side with the experiments, which now dominates him more and more strongly. This is when an internal struggle begins to try to bring the good side back, but things become increasingly difficult.
Lovely, not a technical masterpiece, far from it, convenient and not very surprising (or almost nothing), but the climate of tension (slightly non-existent) helps us to maintain our slight interest... Some plot holes, cuts in scenes, and a weak courtroom ending, an attempt at a plot twist that is practically stupid and predictable... 'The film was not well received. Exclaim! Called it "completely unnecessary and often laughable"'
Fala Tu (2003)
A documentary full of sad stories, but filled with hope and dreams. #cried
Macarrão, 33 years old, a scorer for the animal game, two daughters, resident of Morro do Zinco and a Fluminense fan. Toghum, 32 years old, a salesman of esoteric products, a Buddhist and resident of Cavalcante. Combatente, 21 years old, resident of Vigário Geral, a regular at the Santo Daime Church and a telemarketer. For 9 months, between 2002 and 2003, a crew filmed the daily lives of these three Rio natives from the North Zone, who struggle and dream of making their music, rap, their livelihood. The result is a chronicle composed of the daily lives, lyrics and dramas of these three characters.
A documentary full of sad stories, but filled with hope and dreams. #cried I didn't really like this Macarrão guy, I thought he was a bit crazy in the way he treated his wife, Thogun seems to be the one that's really got going these days, I loved Combatente, success.
Winner of the awards for best film by the popular jury and best director at the 2003 Rio Festival. The 2023 Rio Festival will be showing a restored 35mm copy of the film as part of the beginning of the celebrations of Matizar Filmes' two decades.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
A beautiful biography, although very sad
The Eyes of Tammy Faye takes a close look at the incredible rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 1980s, Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker built a religious television network and a theme park, but rivals, financial irregularities and scandals brought their empire down.
A beautiful biography, although very sad, despite the partial and personal view, through the eyes of Tammy Faye, which explains all her faith, which over time becomes distorted and turns her ambition into great futility and excessive ostentation.
I got a grudge and aversion to Jerry Falwell, a religious bigot who didn't even deserve the nickname of pastor, disgusting... Jamie Bakker from executioner to puppet in the hands of the false Pharisees...
5x Favela: Agora por Nós Mesmos (2010)
Five beautiful and moving stories
The project '5 x favela - Agora Por Nós Mesmos' brought together more than 80 young people from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, selected through script and film workshops to create a feature film with five stories that reflect the different facets of daily life in these communities.
Five beautiful and moving stories, the first makes us rethink meritocracy and opportunities in life, which not everyone has the same; the second, about the little boys, despite its comic tone, hurt my heart, tells of hunger, poverty and the love of family and friends; the third, the saddest, takes us back to the worst crimes and shows us how difficult it is to break free from the environment we live in; the fourth and fifth, simple but with intrinsic tension, are works developed collectively with several workshops from the communities...
Blue Lagoon: The Awakening (2012)
An updated remake lost much of the essential by changing the age of the castaways, previously children
In this new version, young Emma (Indiana Evans) and Dean (Brenton Thwaites) study at the same school but are from different worlds. He is the lonely boy with no friends and she is the popular girl at school, full of friends. On a school trip to the Caribbean, the young people attend a party on a boat. Emma ends up falling into the sea and Dean jumps in to save her. They manage to swim to an abandoned boat and arrive at a deserted island. While they are on the island, their parents do everything they can to find them.
An updated remake, at least an attempt, lost much of the essential by changing the age of the castaways, previously children, in this one, teenagers, less sexual than its predecessors, and also less sensual, relatively captivating if you can avoid the comparisons (although it is impossible) we can enjoy a reasonable teen movie, silly, somewhat embarrassing, but brave and well-intentioned...
Christopher Atkins, the protagonist of 1980 appears in the film.
Marked for Death (1990)
The pobi are all voodoo, it is the voodoo that is all evil, caricatured and intolerant master blaster...
Having just retired from the Narcotics Control Agency, John Hatcher returns to his hometown and quickly discovers that drugs have infiltrated his old neighborhood. Determined to drive out the dealers, Hatcher crosses paths with a fierce Jamaican drug smuggler who determines that he and his family are now marked for death.
Steven Seagal's movies generally follow the same "good guy" line who, with that sly little face, nonchalantly defeats evil with punches and kicks. This doesn't bother me, I actually quite like it. However, what I disapprove of is the fact that it is always the Latinos/foreigners who are the bad guys to be fought and here it is the Jamaicans' turn and time. The pobi are all voodoo, it is the voodoo that is all evil, caricatured and intolerant master blaster...
JFK (1991)
The crime ainda permanece um mistério enevoado...
The assassination of the famous president John F. Kennedy is investigated by prosecutor Jim Garrison, who is not satisfied with the result of the investigation that says Kennedy was killed by a single person. Now he will try to prove his theory that the president was killed by a conspiracy involving Cuban revolutionaries, the CIA and the top brass of the American government.
I had already watched another film/documentary about the conspiracy theory that he was not assassinated by a single man, but here the investigative process of the authors of the books and the wealth of details in the film, long, but intriguing with each new discovery, like a puzzle put together piece by piece, to outline the whole, and still they have not obtained an absolute answer, and the crime still remains a hazy mystery...
Boss Level (2020)
Fun, creative, exaggerated and delicious...
A former special forces agent is trapped in a time loop and relives his death over and over again. To escape the terrible situation, he must track down those responsible and stop them.
A movie so, so messed up that it becomes really, really cool, a bizarre trip to repetitive days, in the best style of "Groundhog Day", here called "Osiris' Spindle", killed in 250 different and creative ways, bloody and heartbreaking, narrated in a fun way, with caricatured and charismatic characters, and a cute melodramatic ending... The ill-fated paternal abandonment redeeming itself in order to save the world and itself... Fun, creative, exaggerated and delicious...
Na Quebrada (2014)
Amid stories of loss and violence, they discover a new way to express their ideas and emotions: cinema.
Based on real events, the film follows the story of a group of young people from the lower class, such as Júnior, a television repair apprentice, Zeca, who witnessed a massacre, Joana, a girl who dreams of her unknown mother, and Gerson, whose father has been in prison since he was born. Amid stories of loss and violence, they discover a new way to express their ideas and emotions: cinema.

Cheung gong 7 hou (2008)
Captivating...
Iron is a loving and poor father who, despite working hard, doesn't find the time or money to follow his son's life, nor buy him the most coveted toy. Iron then discovers a pet in the trash and takes it home. What he doesn't imagine is how much this creature's powers can change both of their lives.
A delightful, super funny science fiction film with a cute alien pet, CJ7 is a tribute to China's successful Shenzhou manned space missions... Stephen Chow is a director and actor of good comedy films, but this is by far the most captivating of them all. The child that enchanted me was actually a girl. The film gains an air of drama in the second half, a captivating script, perfect and exaggerated effects. Captivating...
Happiest Season (2020)
In this warm film...
Young Abby is determined to finally ask Harper's hand in marriage during her girlfriend's family's Christmas dinner. However, when she discovers that she has not yet come out to her parents, her plans are put on hold.
A delightful and wonderful romantic comedy film, I would even say quite dramatic, given the tears it brought to my eyes in the final act, unfortunately a reality for many homosexuals who have had to hide for so long. DuVall stated that "in many ways, this film is autobiographical" in addition to making parental toxicity explicit in several aspects, Kristen Stewart, who I love, along with other fantastic actresses in this warm film...
Lansky (2021)
Everything else was just evil inside him... Average...
When the elderly Meyer Lansky is investigated for the last time by the feds, who suspect he has stashed millions of dollars over half a century, the retired gangster tells a stunning story, revealing the untold truth about his life as the notorious head of Murder Inc. And the National Crime Syndicate.
A 2021 American biographical crime drama about the notorious Jewish gangster Meyer Lansky...
With a narrative that alternates between the present and flashbacks of his life, they tried to humanize a monster, a forced attempt that, in my opinion, did not work, despite the fight against the Nazis, everything else was just evil inside him... Average...

Last Night in Soho (2021)
A very nice horror production that takes us back to the 60s with glamour...
A young girl, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s, where she meets her idol, a stunning aspiring singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to be falling apart with dark and deadly consequences.
What a delightful duo to follow: Thomasin McKenziee and Anya Taylor-Joy, and Diana Rigg, Machiavellianly angelic, as well as the cute Michael Ajao, in this adorable and bloody psychological horror film... The film itself is a very crazy ride, horror, real horror, it almost didn't exist, but an atmosphere of tension and the dark and bloodthirsty effects gave it an air of terrorism, contrasting with the angelic air and personality of the protagonist... A very nice horror production that takes us back to the 60s with glamour...
Crisis (2021)
A lovely crime thriller, with the wonderful Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Rodriguez, I love...
Three stories about the world of opioids collide: a drug dealer organizes a fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the US, an architect recovering from an OxyContin addiction tracks down the truth behind his son's involvement with narcotics, and a college professor is surprised by revelations about his employer, a pharmaceutical company with deep government influence that is bringing a new "non-addictive" painkiller to the market.
A lovely crime thriller, with the wonderful Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Rodriguez, I love...
With the driving forces behind the links between the drugs in vogue, oxycodone and methadone, and a new fictional drug, oscillating between the drama that drugs cause to their addicts, the pharmaceutical mafia and the struggle of undercover police officers and informants, everything aligns well to offer great entertainment, in this excellent, but modest and little-known production...
Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
A powerful drama, about the evil of the century, mental and emotional health,
Evan Hansen is a student who suffers from social anxiety disorder. When a classmate commits suicide, he ends up getting closer to the deceased's family, thus creating a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
I found the choice of the actor (although he is excellent) strange because he is much older than the protagonist, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Ben Platt was Evan Hansen on Broadway, a great choice and a tribute to the actor, who "fit like a glove" for the role...
A powerful drama, about the evil of the century, mental and emotional health, it escapes the cliché of teenage dramas and embarks on an intense and dramatic psychological thriller, which increasingly involves us, sad and perfect...
Life-Size (2000)
Cute
Casey Stuart is a girl who is still recovering from her mother's death. When her father presents a new girlfriend, she decides to resurrect her mother with a spell, but accidentally gives life to a doll, which turns into a person of flesh and bone.
Lindsay Lohan (Britney Spears among others), so beautiful, whenever I see her in her nostalgic films, remember the importance of the support network and psychological aid don't hurt anyone ... It's considered a didactic children's movie that gave the tone to Dolls inspired by fans "Barbie's first movie Live-action," called the Cult Classic being frequently revisiting.
Mad Monster Party? (1967)
Passione...
When Dr. Frankenstein decides to retire from business, he calls an international gathering of monsters for a horrifying convention to elect his successor. Everyone shows up, including Count Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and many others. But Dr. Frankenstein decides to hand over the position to his nephew, a human, causing outrage among the others.
A cute and captivating stop-motion animation, the film is an exaggerated homage and parody of the classic monster movies of the 1930s and 1940s, and has become a cult film. It was a pleasant surprise due to its captivating script and the beautiful quality of the technique used, with a wealth of detail, care and the cute context of the little monster dolls in the graphics, as well as the protagonist's naivety, which gives the animation a comical air, little songs and a delightful, captivating soundtrack.
Three Identical Strangers (2018)
Stupendous...
In 1980, in New York, three young people who were adopted meet and discover that they are triplets separated at birth. But their search to find out why turns into a bizarre and sinister mystery.
So absurd that it borders on irrational, three twins separated due to an experiment that was never published remain in an absurdly immortal secret (until 2065), without justification or precedents... Countless cases, some suicides, and I dare to say, as a layman and irresponsibly, that despite adverse upbringings, genetics remained firm in the cases mentioned, in which the twins were incredibly similar in their subjectivities, and what killed Eddy and affected the others was the separation... Stupendous...
Bear (2010)
Regular...
Two young couples are driving through a remote forest when their car breaks down. When an encounter with a bear ends in the bear's death after being shot, the bear's partner arrives and, out of revenge, attacks their van. The couples are trapped inside the van and have to find clever ways to survive.
The good thing is that at the beginning of the film we see the foolish younger brother and the older one unloading a whole gun on an innocent bear, which makes us root for the bear, at least so that they eat the foolish boys, lots of dialogue and litanies, what we really liked was the bears' acting... Somewhat dark scenes, weak plot twist, resembling bar/drink gossip, it's not bad, if you speed up the speed you can easily follow the screams...
Mutants (2009)
Nice, dark and simple...
In a world devastated by a pandemic virus, a couple on the run tries to find the only safe place to take refuge: the secret military base "Noah". Cornered by the bloodthirsty creature, Marco and Sonia, who is pregnant, will have to fight for survival.
I liked the diversity of the approach, centered on a dystopian future with a pandemic and a zombie apocalypse (everything I love most in cinema). However, the focus is on a pregnant wife who must fight against her worst enemy: the man she loves is infected, and the implications that this generates, as well as the attacks from humans. A little dramatic, a little bloody, for now it drags on, for now it's tense, but it's entertaining within what it has to offer, simple and efficient... Nice, dark and simple...
Turma da Mônica em Uma Aventura no Tempo (2007)
So cute and exciting
Franjinha builds a time machine, but to make it work, he needs to bring together the four elements of nature: water, fire, earth and air. Franjinha's laboratory is invaded by Cebolinha and Cascão, who are running away from Mônica, followed by Magali. In the confusion, Sansão is thrown towards the boys and hits the time machine. The impact makes the four elements go to different times, each one in the same place in Brazil, the Limoeiro neighborhood - where the girls and boys live. The accident causes a disaster - time starts to slow down on Earth. To reverse this situation, the four need to embark on different times and rescue the elements.
I'm super biased because I really love Turma da Mônica, it has a super nostalgic aura, as if it came straight out of the comics I read in the 90s and bought at newsstands... It was interesting to use several characters that already existed in the gang in various timeless periods, a delightful and captivating experience... So cute and exciting, the bunny part, and full of adventures and a super cute and necessary inclusion at the end...
Good Boy! (2003)
The whole thing in a whole, fun for the little ones with the family, and that's it...
Owen Baker has a big dream: to have a dog. To do so, he walks the neighborhood dogs, saving money so he can buy his own dog. Owen ends up convincing his parents to adopt a stray dog, whom he names Hubble. Until one day, Owen realizes that he can understand everything Hubble says. Owen discovers that the dogs came from space to Earth millions of years ago, with the mission of dominating the planet, and that now they need to organize the reception for the arrival of their leader. Owen starts helping Hubble in his task, because if they fail, all the dogs on the planet will be killed.
Trying to ride the wave of the delicious Beethoven, Air Bud and Balto, but not so successfully, the characters lacked greater charisma, the specialized critics rejected the dubbing of the puppies "the movements of the jaw are so mechanical that they don't seem like speech, they seem like a film loop", however, that wasn't what made it fail, but the whole thing in a whole, fun for the little ones with the family, and that's it...
