Beyond the Neon (2022)
What Happens in Vegas is Revealed in this Movie
Fantastic movie! Beyond the Neon will never make you look at Vegas the same way and that's a good thing! It's incredibly eye opening and touches upon things that are really happening, but no one sees.
The movie is not a documntary, but the story documents sex trafficking and what is really happening in Vegas. There's many intense parts, but the film breaks it up with some levity. If you're looking for something new and noteworthy, I'd defintley recommend Beyond the Neon.
The main characters don't know what they're walking into at first, but then discover a world like no other and keep pushing the envelope. The ending is espeically memorable and mind-blowing. Trying not to give away too much, but it's not something you'll forget.
We Are Lady Parts (2021)
My Favorite Show since Broad City!
I never watch a show more than once, but this show is so excellent that I watched the entier season twice in two days. Why it didn't get any Emmy nominations is beyond me?! It's hilarious, has unique characters, and a wonderful story! It's seriosly like nothing else on TV. This is probably my Top 5 shows of all time and that's saying a lot, because I watch a lot of TV. Hope to see a Season 2 and more from creator/director, Nida Manzoor.
Take Me to Tarzana (2021)
Very Funny
Lots of great laughs and antics!!! Also, superb acting with comedic ability! If you have Amazon Prime, it's defintley worth the watch! Hope we see more from the writer/director soon!
Reckoning (2019)
Pleasantly Surprised
Netflix shows are always a mixed bag, but I definitely enjoyed this more than I thought. Acting is great, the story moves at a good clip -- it manages to do stuff I've never seen in a small town murder story, which is saying a lot. If you're looking for something to binge, it's worth a look.
Broad City (2010)
Great Little Web Series That Became a Big TV Show
This is what every web series should strive to be. You can tell Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer put a ton of work into this and it really paid off. The beginning episodes are a little rough around the edges, but with persistence, the episodes got better and better. Eventually having a season 2 finale with Amy Poehler which would propel them a deal with Comedy Central.
Many young writers and filmmakers can learn a lot from watching these. I know I have with my web series, "Romantically Hopeless." Abbi and Ilana found their voice by doing this web series. And the brand of comedy and voice they created generated one of the best TV shows of the past 10 years.
What makes this web series so appreciable is the subject matter, dedication, chemistry, and humor. They had some killer jokes. It also helped that the episodes were never too long. They are all relatively short and easy to watch which is how web series should be.
There's a lot of time and energy that goes into any web series. "Broad City" had 23 episodes in 15 months which is a lot. It shows you how diligent and devoted Abbi and Illana were. And they inspire many of us to go the distance.
