Hunters (2020)
Watch this...it will not disappoint!
Having just finished the last episode of season 2 I can categorically say this is one of the best series I have ever seen.
The cast, the direction and the whole feel and imagery of each episode is perfection. Gritty, realistic and amusing in places, I didn't want this to end.
As a fan of The Boys From Brazil I knew that it would be something I would find interesting but this was on a completely different level. Each episode is captivating. The changing of locations and eras in time were expertly executed, each character was superbly cast and the scenes in the camps evoked so much emotion. It is rare to find a series or film which is so well paced, no unnecessary scenes or dialogue.
Choose or Die (2022)
Disappointing despite being original.
This had been in my watchlist since before it was released and thought I'd take a break from Stranger Things and finally give it a go. The plot was mostly good if a little confused near the end and had some brilliant scenes (the cafe one especially) Left me wondering why a British cast were all doing American accents and felt that it came across more like a student project rather than a Netflix production.
It was obviously aimed at Black Mirror fans (of which I am one!) but I found it overall it was disappointing and lack lustre.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Brilliant!
I had no idea that this film was semi-autobiographical until I started watching it. Having seen various trailers I had never heard of Jonathan Larson (to my shame!) and had no idea that he had written Rent (which I have not yet seen!) The songs are amazing and sung so well by Andrew Garfield that I know the soundtrack will be much listened to over the next weeks and months! This film makes you think and smile and then feel sad and I loved it! I so hope Andrew gets the Best Actor in a Leading Role Academy Award...much deserved!
Hellboy (2019)
Awful!!
This film is awful... the script and accents of the actors. One of the worst films I have seen. Uncomfortable to watch. Was looking forward to watching this as I love the original and Hellboy so much! Great make-up but the special effects are so poor. I feel so sorry for the actors especially the Alice character (her English accent is appalling.)
Such a shame, the franchise should have been left as it was. Ian McShane is the only redeeming actor.
Old (2021)
Could have been so much better!
Watched this with low expectations due to reviews I had read. Visually really good and a decent premise but awful dialogue/script which knocked a few stars off. The effects were good overall and mix of tension/horror interesting but felt unrealistic. Such a shame that nothing M. Knight has done has been as brillant as The Sixth Sense. Watch this for its entertainment value and for the human interactions as they get older especially near the end.
Encanto (2021)
The best Disney film for years!!
Saw this this evening and absolutely loved it...colourful, entertaining, magical, funny and captivating. It is now my daughter's favourite Disney film and probably mine too. A film with a beautiful message, wonderful soundtrack and brilliant characters.
Spitting Image (2020)
Absolutely Awful
Some of the puppets look brilliant, some not so. This was not funny at all! The impressions were all but unrecognisable, the only decent one being David Attenborough. What a waste of time!
100% Wolf (2020)
Delightful and very funny!!
Watched this with my 6 year old...we both loved it! Reminded me of the Queen's Corgi, quite predictable but so enjoyable. Really made my son laugh and me too, in different places. Really cute and a good clean ending!
Fantasy Island (2020)
Escapism...don't expect too much!
Feels a lot like a TV movie and don't understand the 18 certificate...anyway entertaining enough and a good concept but very predictable and not as gruesome as the certificate would suggest. Don't buy it, just rent it if it's cheap! Not too long, felt a bit like Cabin in the Woods but not half as good!
