Superstars: The Extended Version (2021)
Wonderful to see the original cast.
Amazing to see the cast after all these years, and to see how involved they still are with each other, and with the film. This provided a lot of insight into the production and the filming of one of my favorite films, and brought back a lot of memories. Thanks to all of the cast and crew for agreeing to get together and take the time to do this.
Good Omens (2019)
Absurdity that is absolutely brilliant
I had the luck to read the book only about a month ago, so I was truly prepared to be disappointed by the series. After all, doesn't everyone always say, "but the book is SO much better!"? Now, after seeing Good Omens put to life, I can say, watch and see Gaiman and Pratchett's words put to brilliant scene and life. Every actor, from Sheen to Tennant and on down are at the top of their game, and every scene and line is done to perfection. Wit, humor, sarcasm, wisdom, love and acceptance all run through these six episodes. Please watch this. It is a masterpiece.
Active Measures (2018)
A must see, even if you thought you knew all the facts
I just finished watching "Active Measures" and I'm someone who has followed the news about the Russian hacking and infiltration of the 2016 election carefully, or at least I thought so. This film was an eye-opener. Well done, well researched, and spellbinding. This should be a must-see, no matter what your party affiliation.
Longmire: High Noon (2015)
Perhaps the best yet
I'm not into long reviews, and I don't want to write too much, as many have not seen the current season's episodes, but this is, to me, the best episode of the 4 seasons. It is the epitome of the entire Longmire "creed", and exhibits strong writing, acting and production, which, by the way, has improved since the show's move to Netflix. It was heartening to see the original cast return (hopefully for years to come) as the ensemble nature of the show is one of its strengths. From Robert Taylor to Katee Sackoff to Lou Diamond Phillips, no one seems to treat this as merely a TV show. This also extends to the film crew, as the lighting, filming and editing is wonderful. I followed this show on A&E, and I'm thrilled to see it return, even stronger, to Netflix.
The Newsroom (2012)
Bravo for Aaron Sorkin!
I was (and with the purchase of the full set of DVDs) still am a loyal watcher of The West Wing. I may have worn out the discs! I even liked Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, although I can see why it didn't last. Interestingly enough, I wasn't impressed with The Social Network, perhaps because I found the main character repellent. But now, I have new heroes; the cast of The Newsroom!! The ensemble cast is a delight, and despite those who can't see beyond the fact that Will really IS a dejected centrist Republican, horrified at what his party has become, andthat is really the point of the show. If you listen to all he says, he is not a Democrat. I know that - I'm one, and I'd never count him in the ranks. Still, he's mainly a newsman, and as such has finally decided to join the ranks of the rare ones; the ones who bravely tell the truth, even if it is at the expense of his own party. That's the interesting part of the show. Were he a Democrat attacking Republicans, it would be far less interesting. I'm sure there are Democrats on his staff, along with Republicans, but truth seems to be their primary goal.
