The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
Entertaining if not educational
This film is an easy watch, great cast and ultimately well shot, however it's almost a camp parody of anything based on real life . Still it's worth a watch. It has all the hallmarks of a Guy Ritchie with the inevitable comparison to Tarantnos also fictionalised film based on nazi hunters. Its action sequences will keep you entertained, but it won't live long in the memory.
The ensemble is staggering, it's relatively well made and should be an epic. It isn't it's just good.
He has tried to do something on a grand scale with a colossal cast, history in a contemporary format. It's worth a watch.
Beast (2022)
Pretty poor
The CGI lion was the best part of this film. It's premise is a rogue lion stalking a family who went into the bush grossly unprepared, however upon finding that there seems to be a malevolent rogue, giant lion slaying entire villages they proceed to keep children in dangerous areas without more supplies .. the saddening thing is that this has 2 good actors woefully let down by script, story and ultimately CGI .. had potential to be a modern jaws type film however it was really poor, I'm amazed Idris Elba appeared in this travesty .. I give it 5/10 but that was very generous, I'm upset I paid ..
The Watcher (2022)
Such a let down
This had a good cast, good budget and excellent trailers that drew me into watching. Sadly it failed on almost every level, no suspense, drama or any horror at all. In fact it could've been a more succinct 2 parter and got to the point much quicker, as it escalated and tried to lead the viewer into drawing conclusions, it only led to making the lead characters look moderately dim witted. Based on a true story it states, basically it's over zealous neighbourhood watch that try to dictate who lives in a home and how they decorate it. Ultimately a waste of time. Decent cast wasted, had potential.
Day Shift (2022)
Better than expected
This film is much better than I anticipated.. Foxx is his usual likeable self and the premise was good in theory. Worth a watch if be surprised if it didn't spawn multiple sequels. No surprises and a few jumpy bits but on the whole relatively funny and entertaining
Reverences lots of classic vampire movies a d is almost aware that is a parody, but it's definitely not the worst thing produced by Netflix and a light relief in the vampire comedy genre, in the style of lost boys, fright night etc
Some interesting cameos and a pretty decent cast. I'm elaborating now as I have to fill the review with 600 characters which I find hard to comprehend I've done assignments with less stringent criteria. Good effort from first time director though.
Me Time (2022)
Pretty poor
This film could have been good. I take it the Rock read the script and bailed due to its horrific content, crap and contrived. Netflix is producing this type of content it's understandable why Disney is now the main streaming provider.
Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break (2021)
Shambles
With quite a good array of British comedy talent I expected more. This was just horrific in writing and performance. I can't believe the pittance it cost to finance was actually offered up by producers after reading the script.
The Witchfinder (2022)
Had so much potential
This show had an excellent cast, such a shame it didn't deliver. The premise was there but it was quite poorly written and sadly not very well performed.
Monster Hunter (2020)
What did you expect ?
This is a film that's plot is summed up by the title, ridiculous from start to finish. However the visuals are decent and but don't make up for lack of script and plot.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Marvel-lous
All the action adventure, comedy and pathos expected from a classic Spider-Man film. However we now have the nostalgia and uniqueness of multi Spider-Men in a cleverly constructed multiverse
Fantastic film.
The Outlaws (2021)
Quirky drama not out and out comedy
This show is well written and well observed, it's got a great cast who act admirably. It's not a comedy though it's more a drama with elements of humour.
Worth a watch, if not a little predictable.
Intelligence (2020)
Not as bad as the reviews suggest
Reading the reviews on here I expected absolute garbage, surprisingly it's quite good. Light hearted and daft but worth a watch.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Waste of a good concept
The premise of this film, combined with a decent cast and Snyder's zombie experience promised a good film. Sadly this cliche ridden CGI mess fails to deliver. I only watched as I was cheering for the zombies at the end.
Nomadland (2020)
Very compelling
Beautifully directed and acted, well deserved Oscar winning performance from both lead and director.
Powerful and thought provoking.
Toast of London (2012)
Please make more
This show is surreal and absolutely hilarious. Matt Berry is fantastic
I hope it gets a third series
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
Cohen doing a Borat impression.
I'm a massive fan of the original and this film too deserves a watch, however it loses its edge and appeal as everyone knows who he is and it's the stupidity of the public that makes the film work .. Cohen appears to be doing an impression of Borat, the voice is even different
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Quite entertaining
Surprisingly funny, spot on parody of Eurovision. It's longer than most epics though, thus ruining it slightly, would've been better with half hour left on the cutting room floor
Cats (2019)
Catastrophic..
I have never been so frustrated by a film with such a stellar cast. What where they thinking. Just appalling I almost asked for a refund
Dracula (2020)
Certainly sucks
There is a lot at stake when dealing with classic source material, this left me cross as it is no reflection of the original book. The BBC have taken liberties and over stretched, it's a shame that the count was as boring as counting sheep
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Better than expected
This has Guy Ritchies usual visual style and is a bizarre take on the legend, yet it was entertaining and not as bad as some critics pertained. Imagine snatch with wizards .. not bad
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
A film full of heart
Don't let the subject matter dissuade you, this is a beautiful film, incredibly funny, well thought out and perfectly delivered.
The Irishman (2019)
A master class of talent on display
Some of the finest acting talent in a fine ensemble, beautifully orchestrated and directed. 3.5 hours goes by so rapidly. Thoroughly entertaining, instant classic
Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)
A shame really
Appears it was a bad rip off, heavily influenced by Ali G, Alan Partridge, and David Brent just not executed as well. Only average such a shame
It Chapter Two (2019)
Decent sequel
Great cinematography and excellent cast, probably not as good as the first one
Liam: As It Was (2019)
Personal and insightful
Liam bares his soul, shows some depth and insight. It was interesting and much better than expected. He is a legend like it or not
Toast of London (2012)
Please make more
This show is surreal and absolutely hilarious. Matt Berry is fantastic
I hope it gets a third series
