Foundation (2021)
Visually impressive but..
So, I don't know if my brain is the problem, I am too limited or anything but I can't keep watching this series. It looks really spectacular but I cannot get the story. I have not read the books, nor do I know anything about it so, this whole back and forth in time is really killing it for me.
I am currently on episode 3 and am gonna stop watching. At the end of episode 1 it goes to 36 years later. Then, episode 2 begins at 36 years earlier again, where we left the story. Then it goes to 400 years earlier, then back to 400 years later. 10 minutes later its 17 years later. Who thought this would be a good idea? I cannot develop any interest for any of the characters, yet alone for the confusing storyline.
It's a pity because I m really into science fiction ("The expanse" btw is a masterpiece) but I can't keep up with this story. 3 stars.
The Creator (2023)
Almost spectacular
I had never heard of this movie when it just appeared in front of me as a suggestion on a streaming website. A quick google search convinced me to give it a try.
Boy I am glad I did that. I was not expecting to be that blown away. Many people will say this movie is like a mix and match between "Minority Report", "I-Robot", "The terminator" or even "Star wars" and they most probably be right, but heck, what does one require from an action sience fiction movie? For me, to entertain me and spend a good time.
This movie totally delivered. Interesting story, decent casting, spectacular CGI, absolutely beautiful location and photography. Cannot recommend it more.
My score is based on the fact that I did have a great timw watching it. I m not taking into consideration the originality of the story, plot holes etc.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
Ridiculously good
I am not even done watching the entire series, currently on episode 10, but I had to write a review.
This series is so good, it is even unfair to other series. I m currently on a K-Drama mood and after finishing "Kings affection" ( spectacular series) and "Tale of Nokdu" ( outstanding) I m bingewatching this one. This is the 3rd Korean Serial in a row that blows my mind.
I found the story to be very intriguing with an excellent development and pace. The actors, from the leads to the supporting roles everyone of em is outstanding!
The chemistry between the two leeds is unbelievably good ( No wonder, as I read they got married in real life) and the story is just thrilling, yet funny and heartbreaking at the same time. I cant remember another series that has brought both tears of laughter and sadness.
This is a must watch! I m pretty sure I ll rewatch it next year again.
Yeonmo (2021)
I'm sorry but this is spectacular
My rating and my opinion is probably influenced by the fact that this is my first korean drama. The only Korean series I have previously watched was the "Squid game", so everything is quite new here for me.
At times sad yet very thrilling with a massive amount of romance and even comedy! Chemistry among all of the cast is spectacular.
Everything works here so fine. The beautiful language, the - at times hysterically dramatic - direction, the outstanding actors, the photography, the pace, the amazing costumes. All these things add even more value to the already very intriguing story.
Sure, there are some things that may seem a bit cringe to our western eyes, like all these pauses and the endless stares of passion among the male and female lead, but seriously I don't mind it all. If it was a western story I probably would find that more annoying but it fits the whole atmosphere here.
The story got me so invested I binged the f-censored- out of it, completing watching this series in only 3 days.
1899 (2022)
If "lost" cheated on "Dark" with "The Matrix"
That's a tough one. This series got so much hype that I kinda expected it to be a letdown. You almost never can reach the expectations when the bar is set so high. And Dark did set the bar high.
To beginn with, this is nothing like Dark. It feels like it a times, mainly because of the music n sounds but that's all.
The actors, maybe except the guy who played on Elite, are overall very good, their lines and stories intriguing and the pace is quite alright. You might think at the beginning that it's a bit slow but this will change after 1-2 episodes. The production is splendid and you can see that they probably put a lot of money in this, graphics, CGI, costumes, everything looks really good. It is very dark though and you must almost watch the entire series in absolute darkness with no lights if you wanna be able to see what is actually happening.
Apart from that, if you have watched some series in your life, you ll pick up at the middle of this series what is happening more or les, since the things you see cannot be explained rationally. Furthermore, the more the story goes the more you get the feeling that it will be quite difficult to get an answer or an explanation on things that you see, like it happened on "lost". You quite like what you see but are thinking "boy, how are they gonna explain that".
The plot twist at the end was a bit ridiculous in my opionion and only made an already complex series even more complexer. It's like they wannt to put way too many things in one series. It is too much.
Series ends with almost no answer whatsoever. I m going to watch season 2 but it wont be my worst day if Netflix cancels this.
Barbarian (2022)
How this has 7.3 stars is beyond me
How this ridiculous and nonsense movie has 7.3 stars is simply beyond me.
The story is just unbelievable, the heroes take one disastrous decision after the other and the whole plot is just ridiculous. It is so bad and nonsense that at times you think you are watching a parody rather than a horror movie.
The direction is also extremely bad and it feels at time that you are watching 3 completely different stories rather than one.
The cast is ok and the whole production looks like it was an expensive movie, it does not look cheapm This is the only positive thing I can write about this hysterically bad film. Don't waste your time.
Eternally Confused and Eager for Love (2022)
Enough with the voice over!
Man I m currently obsessed with indian movies and serials, so I decided to give this a try.
It is charming, modern and easy watchable. Not the best series around but I quite enjoyed watching it.
The main character is quite likeable but why did they have to make him so foolish and childish? His personality suits a 15 year old boy and not a guy in his mid 20s almost, no matter he has has experiences or not.
Another crucial thing about this series is the voice over of Wiz, his actually inner voice. It makes him look like he is in need of help about his mental condition. In addition he is speaking constantly, many times over the characters voice, what makes it really really tiring and annoying. They should have given Wiz half the screentime he has.
I dont know if it is a thing in upper class India to speak more english than punjabi but I d prefer them to speak their own language, would make the holy story more charming.
Badhaai Do (2022)
Brilliant
I have recently discovered indian cinema and keep getting surprised with the gems it has to offer.
Again, as most indian films I think, this is a very long movie and when I begun watching it I was certain that I m not going to watch the whole thing. And once again, I was wrong again.
This movie is so interesting and well made, I didn't notice how over two hours passed by.
The story is very intriguing, it has very funny moments and also quite dramatic ones that might even get you tears in your eyes ( the moment he told her on the phone that he came out to this family had me crying like a baby. Excellent acting).
The pace is great, the direction very good, the cast brilliant and one thing I especially liked about this, is the inside we get in indian traditions and way of living. Overall, this is one of my favorite movies now I think. Brilliant.
RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) (2022)
Weirdly spectacular
When I pushed play, I did not really believe that I would ever watch the whole movie. I just wanted to take a look and bail on it.
Well, I was so wrong. This movie is a freaken masterpiece, combines some extraordinary drama, stunning stunts and action, great photography and absolutely beautiful music. Given that this is a Bollywood movie, you know that you are going to watch some pretty ridiculous action scenes, an overall cheesy direction and dialogues and that the acting won't exactly be Oscar worthy. But none of it made me not enjoy this movie. The time passed by very easily and I ended up having a really great time.
The eye candy that is Ram Charan made this movie even more watch worthy in particular. That is one ridiculously handsome man, I have to say ;P.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Intriguing!
I m still not done watching the first season but I just had to stop episode 5 and write a review.
I read so many lukewarm or mediocre reviews about this seriee that I almost did not wach it.
Boy am I glad that I started it. This is one of the most intriguing series of the year. The story is a good combination of bittersweet comedy, mustery, drama and even a bit thrillerish at times.
The cast! My God the cast is spectacular! Nicole Kidman,Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Canavale, Luke Evans, Regina Hall, all being extraordinary good in my opinion. I m thrilled about the last 4 episodes and am sure they wont be a letdown.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Quite good
Not only did I not read the books, I did not even know about em, so I expected nothing in particular when I started to watch this series, other than an epic fantasy adventure.
This is what I got. I dont get the many negative reviews. This show has it flaws, mainly due to bad casting I must say, but it still beats other similar series like Netflix's The Witcher to the ground.
Rosamund Pike is spectacular in her role, I did not like her as an actress before watching The Wheel of Time and she absolutely mesmerized me. The 4, supposedly, Teenagers are just fine but Nynaeve was really a bad casting, the actress is average to say the least.
The story is interesting, though the first episodes could have been more epic/interesting. I am waiting for season !
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Spectacular
I'm not a superhero movie fan nor a Marvel fan boy but, boy what a treat this movie was! Spectacular CGI, very funny dialpgues, great casting, solid action and awesome soundtrack. I really enjoyed it, was not expecting that at all.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston have a very natural chemistry between em and are both remarkably funny for action heroes !
Terminator Genisys (2015)
Unpopular opinion
Though a kid of the 90s, I have just recently watched the movies of the terminator franchise ( only Terminator Dark Fate has to follow yet), so I have no sentimental connections from my childhood to the movies, apart from some catch frases.
So, having just recently, some weeks ago, watched the previous movies I have to say that this is the movie I enjoyed the most! Arnie just keeps getting better in age and I pretty much liked that they altered the original story to a total new plot. I really really liked this a lot and for me this is the best Terminator movie of all I have watched!
The Adam Project (2022)
Enjoyable Sci Fi
This movie is by all means no masterpiece but I don't think that's what they intended when they shot it.
Funny, interesting sci fi with great cast. The time passed without me wanting to fast forward, not once, what is a rare thing for me.
Extra credit to young Adam who is adorable and a great actor!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
What is this?
I got seriously carried away by the good reviews and prepared myself for a journey in horror and mystery.
Instead, I watched a ridiculous movie with a plot so streched that it became laughable. The storyline doesn't give you much space to feel empathy for the characters nor to "die in agony" about their whereabouts. This is more like a weird sci fi than a horror movie.
Dune: Part One (2021)
Brilliant sci fi
There ia absolutely no comparison to the horrible movie of 1984.
Dune:Part one is an absolute delight. Stunning visuals, great acting, beautiful soundtrack. The pace of the story is may a little slow one might say, but it was quite ok. I absolutely enjoyed watching this movie and can't wait for part two.
Eternals (2021)
Spectacular
I don't always trust the bad reviews, and this movie is exactly why!
I m not a marvel fan or in general a fan of superheroe movies ( haven't even watched all the avengers etc) but this sci fi is sooo good.
The acting is great, which is no wonder cause the cast is amazing, the story is very interesting and the special effects are beyond spectacular.
Can't wait for part 2 !
The Royal Treatment (2022)
Why bother shooting such a movie?
This has to be one of the cheesiest films ever made. The story has been told countless times, but in a much much much better way.
Handsome royal falls for poor girl etc. I was not expecting the epitome of originality but neither was I prepared for that cringefeast.
Terrible acting, no chemistry whatsoever between the two protagonists, ridiculous lines and characters, overall mind-blowingly B - Movie feeling throughout the whole movie. I only gave it 3 points instead of 1 cause the leading male character ( the prince) was a solid eye candy !
Lost in Space (2018)
Brilliant Sci Fi
Season one was pretty decent but season 2 and 3 were in my opinion even better. Story, visual effects and character development! I liked everything about it.
Old (2021)
Ridiculously bad cast
Interesting idea, terribly executed. Most of the cast is at the level of high school theater play, especially Piska ( I literally hated every line coming out of her mind, it felt like she is just reading out loud some lines) and the doctor.
The writing is so bad that the story turned very fast to a laughable trash. We were not believing what we were seing as the story evolved.
Photography was nice.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Great cast wasted
Started rather interesting but turned out to be another ridiculous zombie themed show. It has been made hundreds of times and better.
A pity cause most of the cast was outstanding.
Come Play (2020)
A waste of time
Apart from some jump scares there is no thing scary about this movie. The story line, idiotic.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Solid, enjoyable fantasy series
I was not aware of the novels and was pleasantly surprised by this series. The whole theme good versus bad with the additional love interest has been told million times before, yet this adaption puts it in a rather original universe.
It starts kinda lame but when you get into the story it's absolutely recommendable.
The only thing that I found a bit underwhelming was the lead cast ( Alina akaJessie Mei Li just doesnt do it for me, and neither does Archie Reno aka Mal) but Ben Barns is an absolute delight.
Them (2021)
Started great but went down the weird road
How they thought they needed to add the paranormal activity storyline to this - otherwise outstanding - series is beyond me. It ruined the series and was totally unnecessary.
Sotus the Series (2016)
It's kinda silly yet mind-blowingly adorable
I couldn't help but rate this series with an 10, altjough it probably should be 5ish. The script is too amateurish, there is not really much happening beside the main storyline, nor is the acting outstanding BUT the two lead actors are such a sweet couple and although there is barely any kissing, their chemistry is so great and their love story so different than what we are used to in the west, that it melts my hearth.
Huge plus, the character development of Arhit throughout the two seasons from shy closeted guy to proud boyfriend of Kongpop. As Insaid, I can't help it, this series is too adorable.
