The filming took six months, twelve hours a day, with one day off per week.
Director Valeriya Gay Germanika wanted to name the series "69" (one of the reasons for this being that her previous series, Shkola (2010), had 69 episodes). Another working title was "Den i noch" ("Day and Night") and the final title, which Germanika calls "shameful," was the producers' idea.
Alisa Khazanova, Anna Slyu, and Kseniya Gromova were brought to the series by Valeriya Gay Germanika herself and Svetlana Khodchenkova, who played the fourth main character, was chosen after a long search. Germanika also gave roles to many of her friends and people she knew personally: singer Roman Bilyk, socialites and TV hosts Kseniya Sobchak and Valeriya Kudryavtseva, politician Irina Khakamada, directors/screenwriters Aleksandr Vartanov and Yevgeni Mitta, film critic Roman Volobuyev, artist German Vinogradov.
