One Halloween, three pups, Lewey, Chewey, and Booey. Go into Maplecrest Manor looking for treats, as the house's owner, Madame Maples, is holding a seance to summon pets of the deceased to join them. The three pups ruin the seance, causing the circle to be broken and an evil spirit known as Grim to be freed, and making a deal after falling for his plea, they are turned into ghosts while Grim sucks their life out, turning alive. Thirty years later, the Hazel family actually buys the manor to fix-up after past tenants were scared away by the three pups, and end up making friends with the kids, Freddie and Mimi. Now the two, alongside Piper, their new friend and granddaughter of Madame Maples, must help the pups return to living form, while avoiding the bumbling amateur ghost hunters Cleo and Edwin.
Wow, where do I even begin with this? Another show from Air Bud Entertainment, who earlier in 2022 released Super PupZ, a show that is basically a rehash of elements of Super Buddies with a new storyline, Phantom Pups reuses elements from Spooky Buddies in a storyline that would make the 1995 movie Casper facepalm. Lewey, Chewey, and Booey are basically Pip if the pup had siblings and Grim is a recycle of the Halloween Hound, only with a different motive. The CGI still looks like it belongs in a PS2 (seriously, can't this company take a hint and actually get a better CGI software) and the titles are basically puns of having words starting with f replaced with ph (seriously, puns are only funny and clever when used sparingly). While I give it two stars for its heartwarming story, sadly, I cannot rate it higher due to its use of cliche storyline, bad special effects, and the fact that some scenes may be too scary or intense for the target audience of kids (the ones easily suckered into shows involving talking animals).
