It's been a few years now since we first started hearing about the possibility of David Gordon Green directing a remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria. It might seem surprising to those who are only familiar with his recent comedy work (Pineapple Express, Your Highness, The Sitter) but David Gordon Green has always been interested in jumping between genres and I don't think he ever intended to get tied down doing mainstream comedies. Fortunately, it appears that he will finally get a chance to branch out again this year and show us what he can do with a full-fledged horror flick. The funding has come together for the Argento redo, with the production being backed by Crime Scene Pictures. Here is what they had to say about the project: "We love the style and energy of the original film – and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant,...

20th Century Fox Television has inked a pod deal with Rough House Pictures. Under the one-year pact, Rough House principals David Gordon Green, Jody Hill, Danny McBride and head Matt Reilly will develop animated and live-action comedies targeted for broadcast networks. This marks the first network TV deal for the company. Hill and McBride co-created the HBO live-action comedy series Eastbound & Down, now in production on its third season, and Green created the upcoming MTV animated comedy series Good Vibes. Additionally, Rough House is producing the Comedy Central comedy pilot Black Jack starring Ving Rhames. "We as a studio are always looking to be in business with people who we think have unique and specific voices, and the group from Rough House have that," 20th TV chairman Gary Newman said. On the feature side, Pineapple Express helmer Green is directing the forthcoming Jonah Hill comedy The Sitter for 20th Century Fox Studios.

Exclusive: Ving Rhames has been tapped to play the title character in Comedy Central's pilot Black Jack, lifting the contingency on the project. The single-camera comedy, directed and executive produced by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green, hails from Rough House, Green's production company with Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Matt Reilly. Written by Michael Starrbury, it centers on Black Jack (Rhames) who, after 20 years as the most kick-ass special ops agent the Us government has had on its payroll, finally goes too far and is de-commissioned. Comedy Central picked up the pilot last month contingent on finding the right actor for the lead. Green, Starrbury, McBride, Hill and Reilly are exec producing. This is the second time Rhames, repped by Innovative and Kramer Management, would play the title role in a series, following his starring turn on USA's Kojak remake in 2005. He also played the title character in...
