This is comedy at its best: intelligent sense of humour, engaging plot, crispy dialogues and decent acting.
I have to thank the 20,000 petitioners that tried to have this show banned. Otherwise I might have missed it.

I just now finally got around to watching Good Omens and have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. First of all it stars three fantastic actors in David Tennant, Michael Sheen and Jon Hamm. What can be said about those three that haven't already? They're all incredible actors and the chemistry between Tennant and Sheen is some of the best I've seen on tv this year. It's about an unlikely friendship from an Angel named Aziraphale (Sheen) and a demon named Crowley (Tennant) as they team up to stop Armageddon. This show is clever in the way it makes you think about what is right and wrong and the sometimes fine like between them. For a show about the end of times, it sure does make you laugh.

Good Omens is a series based off the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. While I never read the book so I can't compare, I also had no expectations going into it. Having just finished the second season now I can say it was very entertaining. So much so I binged both seasons (only 12 total episodes) over the weekend. The thing that stands out the most is pretty much what every review here has already mentioned and that's the amazing work of its two stars, Michael Sheen and David Tennant. They are what make this series so watchable, any other actors and this wouldn't have worked so well. Season 3 can't come fast enough.
39 years ago I went to a SF convention in Birmingham, UK and, somehow, with a group of close friends, ended up having dinner with Neil Gaimen. During dinner he mentioned the new book he was writing with Terry Pratchett, called "Good Omens". He described it as "an apocalyptic story with comedic overtones". Several months later I was privileged to be at a small private reading of the book prior to its official release and ended up with a signed copy. I read it from cover to cover, many, many times and often wondered if a film would ever be made of it. I was worried that no-one would do it justice.
Tonight, I have just watched all six episodes and all I can say is "Wow". To make this as a film would have been a colossal mistake. To make it as a six part series was the best decision ever made.
The casting was inspirational. Adria Arjona as Anathema Device was brilliant. She matched the character perfectly. David Tenant and Michael Sheen as Crowley and Aziraphale were just inspirational and Jack Whitehall as Newton Pulsifer was brilliant. As for the rest of the cast, no-one could have done better.
The direction was awesome, the camera work was amazing and I loved how the the book's footnotes were worked into the script (bit of a trademark of Mr Pratchett).
Whether or not you will enjoy "Good Omens" depends on your sense of humour. If it leans towards slapstick or visual you may not. If it leans towards finding humour in dark situations you probably will. It also helps if you understand the trials and tribulations of driving on the M25, the London Orbital Motorway.
I will ask only one thing: Please, please, please, don't let anyone attempt to do a sequel.

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is a hilarious yet oddly touching tale about an angel and a demon who team up to prevent the end of the world. It's like The Odd Couple meets The Book of Revelation. Michael Sheen and David Tennant absolutely steal the show as Aziraphale, the uptight angel with a penchant for rare books, and Crowley, the devilishly charming demon who's not so keen on fulfilling his demonic duties. Their chemistry is off the charts, bouncing off each other like a comedic ping-pong match.
Good Omens is ultimately a story about friendship, loyalty, and the power of redemption. It's about finding common ground in the most unlikely of places and learning to embrace your inner demons, quite literally. The pacing can be a bit uneven at times, and the plot might require a few leaps of faith (pun intended). But if you're in the mood for a wickedly funny, devilishly clever romp through the end times, Good Omens is the binge-worthy series you never knew you needed.

I had the luck to read the book only about a month ago, so I was truly prepared to be disappointed by the series. After all, doesn't everyone always say, "but the book is SO much better!"? Now, after seeing Good Omens put to life, I can say, watch and see Gaiman and Pratchett's words put to brilliant scene and life. Every actor, from Sheen to Tennant and on down are at the top of their game, and every scene and line is done to perfection. Wit, humor, sarcasm, wisdom, love and acceptance all run through these six episodes. Please watch this. It is a masterpiece.
So good, that it amazes me to find any negative comments or reviews at all. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea (what is?), to think some actually found something negative to critique or give a bad rating to, is baffling.
The acting is top-notch, the story is fantastic, the writing superb, the delivery mostly quirky and fun, so in a time where other television series run together and merge and meld in their unoriginality, to give this fun, very intelligently done series anything less than a nine, would be a sin.

In a nutshell: it is very cute. Although the themes of good and evil, heaven and hell, are rather epic and grand, this at heart just a small, gentle story of two men who hang out in a bookshop together, go to the pub together, pretend not to like each other, but secretly adore each other beyond the telling.
For me, it verged sometimes on schmaltzy. Whimsy is nice. Absurd is nice. But as an English person, with these things I can't always quite shake the feeling that it's a version of England and Englishness being sold shamelessly to Americans. The cuteness of it, like a little decorative teacup, is charming for sure, but I missed a bit of bite too. There are moments when it could almost bite, but then it seems to get scared and back down fast. For all that, Sheen and Tenant are extremely experienced actors who make it fun, watchable, and easy, ably supported by John Hamm (another highly professional actor), who seems to be having the time of his life with this relatively simple, comedic part.

I LOVED it!!! I read the book, Good Omens, when I was teenager (I'm now 35.) I remember thoroughly enjoying the book when I was younger, but I read so often then that a lot of stories ran together. Terry Pratchet has always been a favorite of mine, as well as Douglas Adams. You definitely get that "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" feeling in the narration of this series, for those unfamiliar with Pratchet's quirky humor style.
This adaption was BRILLIANTLY done! It's been 20 years since I read this book, and it was like watching the story come alive on screen. A very faithful adaption versus a tale that was just inspired by the source material.
The acting was amazing! David Tennant never disappoints! All the actors did well at bringing their characters to life. Sometimes this type of humor can be hard to pull off on screen (seems to translate, imo, better in writing), but it was handled flawlessly!
It's hard for me to say how those who are unfamiliar with the source material would take this series. I think it would be quite enjoyable with a fresh style of humor that's only done well occasionally. I recommend giving this series a go for sure!

I'm familiar with Sheen's work. I like the way he acts and the scripts he selects. 2 things astonished and delighted me about Good Omens 1:
1. The writing is a 10. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett selected the most interesting subject to create a show and made a comedy jewel. I have only recently learned Good Omens' originated as a book. It is now in my shopping cart.
2. David Tennant is one of those actors who had passed me by. I remember thinking he was good. I suppose I took him for granted. I've never watched Dr. Who, or seen him in a Shakespeare play. 2 errors I plan to correct.
Tennant is BRILLIANT as Crowley. Recently, I coincidentally watched a couple of other movies he's in. He changes his voice and affects his accent perfectly each time. Tennant has created a specific walk for Crawley. The way he moves around Aziraphale at the Globe Theatre as a snake encircling his pray. The teen-like manner he moves when he's annoyed. Tennant is an 11 out of 10!
The only reason I gave this show 9 stars is I don't like the custom choice for Anathema Device. She's a contemporary "witch." I fail to see the point of dressing her like a dark Mary Poppins.
I haven't watched season 2 yet. I've decided to watch Season 1 again before getting to Season 2. I'm enjoying every bit of it! I think you will too.
EDIT: Just watched season 2. Terry Pratchett's input is really missing here. I can't help to think if he were alive, this story wouldn't have taken this direction. This has nothing to do with moral judgement. I just think part of what makes the show so compelling is it's interpretations of the portions where the characters intersect with passages of the Bible. The storyline has been completely divorced from the original concept on season 2. My score for this series is now a 7. Tennant is still brilliant.

Good Omens is beautifully adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's classic fantasy novel. The cast is perfection, starting with the leads: Michael Sheen as the angel and David Tennant as the demon. They are the quintessential odd couple who find they have rather more in common than not as they try to save the world from the Apocalypse. All the supporting cast is brilliant, particularly Jon Hamm. Witty, silly, mischievous, absurd, and wise, the pacing is brisk, the plots intertwine, the climax comes, all is resolved, and you are left wanting more because you are sorry to say goodbye to these delightful characters and the crazy genius world created by the wonderful authors. Enjoy!
A hybrid of all the unharmonious and unmixable. Writers keep adding things in the bowl, and every element repels one another and overflows the cup.
Episode 1.1 -1.4. Solid eight. The foundation of the story is strong, and the motif itself is such a genius idea. An angel and a demon working together and building friendship, solidarity, and love. You know? It's most romantic when it's subtly romantic. Aziraphale and Crowly against the world or the whole universe. It's such a great adventure and romantic as heck. Of course, Sheen, Tennant, and Hamm's acting is fabulous.
Episode 1.5 - 2.6. Everything is so easy and convenient that the audience feels belittled. EVERYTHING happens by luck. There isn't any logic and steps to the problem-solving process. Especially toward the Armageddon, climax of the whole season, it ends so ridiculously in all parts: Adam's friends fighting four horsemen, Aziraphale and Crowly, our two protagonists, standing there doing nothing, Anathema and Pulsifier ending missile launch by just touching the computer. One or two conicidents are comical and can be such a laugh, but when eighty percent of the whole plots, especially with the ones that need most tension and meticulousness, lack effort, the audience should be pissed.
Season 2 is such a mess. The whole plot arc is incoherent and spreads all over the place. It lacks organization and branches out without any direction. Writers bring Zombies, Jane Austen, and memory loss just to fill up sixty minutes of one episode. They are so random, easy, and trite tropes. Writers really need to put even just a spoonful of passion to their writings. It looks as if they are just doing what they are paid to do and then go home. If you don't want to write this show, give it to people who really want it.

The casting is great across the board. It's an excellent production.
Season 1 is wonderful. Follows the book, is well adapted for TV and the pacing works well.
Season 2 is awful. The chemistry of the actors is all good, but the plot is just generic and lacks even a hint of Terry Pratchett's humour that made the book (and season 1) so good. It's forgettable in the worst way. Binged it over a day.
Hopefully they stop and let this end before the memory of season 1 is drowned by all that's to come. Not everything needs a sequel, the book and season 1 both stand as a singular and entertaining piece of work and after watching season 2 they deserved to be left as such.

Very different series about what it means to be human. Even for angels and demons stuck on the earthly plane.
Very Gilliam-esque and very much a Pratchett story brought to glorious life.
I almost felt shades of Douglas Adams in this Six part series that has ONLY left me wanting more. Very strong 9 out of Ten. Brilliantly acted, scripted and filmed. Clever clever series nicely produced and packaged. David Tennnant and Michael Sheen were both particularly brilliant in their respective roles. Loved it.

Obviously I'm a a fan from the book or this wouldn't be posted already.
You can read or watch A Series of Unfortunate Events, or any of the other absurdist series out there. Nothing will touch Sir Terry and Neil Gaimen's ability to ground it in reality so firmly it leaves it a bit like visiting an amusement park. Clearly something amazing will happen, you just have to let go and enjoy the little things.

So, I've read Good Omens at least 10 times over my lifetime, and I can honestly say that this mini series does the book justice. The casting is just amazing, David Tennant and Michael Sheen are both brilliant, Adria Arjona was inspired casting for Anathema Device. Sergeant Shadwell was just as I imagined him. Really loved every minute of it, I was only sad that it ended.
It really does capture the spirit of the book. it's not often that an adaptation is this faithful to the source material, but this was really spot on.
Honestly I could watch Crowley and Aziraphale for another hundred hours. Just some fantastic moments between the two of them.

I gave Season One 8/10, but season two is barely a 4/10 !
What on earth happens with 2nd seasons, of late?! The creative and talented do the first season and then what, the accountants and clerics take over, or something?! Michael Sheen and David Tennant are still good and entertaining, as I don't think they are capable of anything else. Some other nice bits by Hamm and Richardson, and there's a nice bit of camera work here and there and some okay effects at the beginning of episode 1, but otherwise... it's lame, hammy, and amateurish. Waste of my time and the money and time of those who made it and could have been doing something so much better, as was done in the first season. Sad.

As a long time fan of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's work, I was over the moon to find out about this show. I love how close it is to the source material, down to the amazing wit and sarcasm. The characters are nuanced and complicated. I'd watch it just for David and Michael's performances alone.
It's got everything I could ask for in a show. Comedy, fantasy, adventure...and a little touch of romance. The characters are all unique and also really fun to look at. It's a wonderful comforting show that I can see myself watching again and again. I cannot wait for the next season to come out so I can binge all 3.

Just a decent show for me as someone who didn't read the book. I absolutely loved Crowley and Aziraphale and their relationship. I also quite liked all the other demons and angels. However I didn't like basically every other character and plot point. I found the antichrist himself super boring and his whole plot felt lame. Maybe I'm too tired of annoying chosen one kids saving the world, especially when the acting is nothing impressive and the shows idea of an interesting kid character is to have a kid ranting about the "patriarchy", ugh. Anathema and her boyfriend, don't even remember his name, also just felt pretty meh.
Every scene without the main duo just made me want them back on the screen asap. Basically, I would have enjoyed the show a lot more if the whole series was just what that first half of episode 3 was (flashback). I just wanted to see Crowley and Aziraphale being unlikely best bros for life and getting up to all sorts of hijinks together throughout history while trying to avoid the wrath of the angels and demons. 6/10 for me. Glad others enjoyed it more though.

After waiting eight months for this show to come out I can say that the wait was definitely worth it. The chemistry between the two main characters and actors is beautiful. Someone give this show a bafta already

I mean, both leads were excellent, acting in general was good, but what is that story?
All the way from the tortured, too long and rather idiotic dialogue at the beginning, to the unwatchable last episode... I hated this.
When I think I loved the first season so much, I'm even more angry. I gave a 10 to the first season, but hardly 4 to the second.
This was such a good critique of Christianity at first, and the story of Job was rather nice, but then those love stories for the feeble-minded, out of character behaviour of the main characters, more than diotic main plot...
If you have nothing to say, shut up.

This season 2 seems more interesting in playing diversity bingo than telling a complete story. Next to no straight couples, focuses too much on hooking up two lesbian characters. Making a fool of the essential white man who's story ended up being another diverse box tick.
The overall story started off good with a mystery about Gabriel, then it just never really progressed. Each character doing next to nothing and the plot happens to put them into the next event. Then it ends is a pretty pathetic resolution where our two heros have an unresolved, yet another tick box, thing that seemingly won't ever happen. But we all know it will.
Personally it suffers due to the side story about the love life of two absolutely unnecessary to the plot characters. And sufferers from the side plot of a certain police angel who had too much focus for nothing to happen. The ending with Gabriel is fine, but it was shoe horned in to the story at the end with no interesting hints.
I don't think I can personally watch this series again knowing it's going to be a let down. The interesting stuff all involves Biblical historical events where our two leads interact but that's it.

This show has quickly become a personal favorite of mine! I went through Catholic school all my life and the sacrilegious way this show represents theological history is AMAZING. I look forward to seeing more from this series. SIMPLY FABULOUS!!!
