Harold và Cây Bút Phép Thuật

I barely remember reading Harold and the Purple Crayon as a kid, but the memory came back after watching the newly released movie of the same name. This follows up the book. Harold (Zachary Levi), now grown up, is still having adventures with his two friends Moose (Lil Rel Howery) and Porcupine (Tanya Reynolds), drawing whatever came to his mind with his magical purple crayon, kind of like Green Lantern. One day, the old man (Alfred Molina) who narrates their lives suddenly stops, giving Harold the idea to draw a door to the real world. Thus begins a typical "fish-out-of-water" story involving a naïve hero, a single mom named Terri (Zooey Deschanel) who hits Harold with her car, and a desperate librarian/author named Gary (Jemaine Clement) who just wants to be recognized. This takes a bit to get going but it definitely grew on me as it went on. It's cute and heartwarming for the whole family. The actors knew what movie this was, especially Clement, who is very fun to watch. This movie came out at a very bad time, failing to compete with much bigger movies and absolutely bombing in the box office. Saying that, I highly recommend taking your kids to see HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON.
