- Terry Richmond: People getting hurt now either way. The fire last night...
- Chief Sandy Burnne: [sighs] Yeah, I heard about that.
- Terry Richmond: Yeah, it's gotten out of hand. Real soup sandwich.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: We can agree on that.
- Terry Richmond: Got me thinking about the conversation we had in the cruiser, about de-escalation? That also takes both sides, you know? So I was thinking, what if we just walk away?
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Well now you're starting to talk some...
- Terry Richmond: But then I was like naaah.
- [Tosses the phone]
- Terry Richmond: So whatever I say, my cousin...
- Chief Sandy Burnne: You could offer me eternal life or a catfish sandwich and the answer would still be the same, specially since you stopped calling me "sir", which about was the only thing you had going for you.
- Terry Richmond: Well, see, that's a courtesy I extend only so far, one of the perks of civilian life, you know?
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Hmm.
- [spits chew]
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Let's not go reminiscing about the Corps now. We both know you never left the base.
- Terry Richmond: Checking up on me?
- Chief Sandy Burnne: What were you, motor-pool?
- Terry Richmond: No, put in for infantry but, uh, they found a use for me state-side.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Now, good for them.
- [spits chew]
- Chief Sandy Burnne: I've had no such luck. So I guess it's time you headed on... and be grateful because if I still had a jail you'd already be in it.
- Terry Richmond: I mean, you got me in a tight enough spot as is. Both of us, actually.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: How's that?
- Terry Richmond: Well, that's why I'm here. I'm running out of letters. See it's, and I don't mean to reminisce, but uh, one thing I can't shake from the Corps: acronyms. Man, we got tons that seared into my brain.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: I got an acronym for ya.
- Terry Richmond: Allow me to finish!
- Terry Richmond: The acronym you need to worry about right now is PACE. P-A-C-E. Ever heard of it? It's a planning methodology used for comm systems but they found it could be applied anywhere. Nursing, engineering, parachute infiltrations, posting bail. So the P is for primary, that's me riding into town with my bag of money. A is for alternate, that's the deal we apparently never made. C is my contingency, that's the restaurant owner you put out of business this morning...
- [Chief Burnne grins]
- Terry Richmond: and there it is!
- [laughs]
- Terry Richmond: spot-on too, like you just ate shit. Anyway you got me burning through all these letters and after this conversation we already on E, you know what that stands for?
- Terry Richmond: Chief.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: I'm glad you're back. You left before you could see my shit-eatin' grin.
- Terry Richmond: Aw. Lay it on me.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Aw, it's not the same if you ask.
- Terry Richmond: Man, I thought we had a deal.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Well, that was the point.
- Terry Richmond: Of what?
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Misleading you.
- Terry Richmond: I see.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Do you? Because the offer you made wasn't unreasonable, in fact it was more than fair as far the trouble it would save.
- Terry Richmond: Well, it still stands.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: So, you don't see. It wasn't the offer you made, it was the fact that you thought you were entitled to make one.
- Terry Richmond: Well my intentions weren't to offend...
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Straight to hell with your intentions! You do not stand in my station, in front of my officers and set terms.
- Terry Richmond: I wasn't aware it was a pissing contest.
- Chief Sandy Burnne: Come on now, hm. Isn't it always?
- Summer McBride: Did you hurt someone?
- Terry Richmond: Barely broke the skin. Think he'll got out? Think they'll send me to where he's at?
- Summer McBride: Was that your plan?
- Terry Richmond: I ran out of plan.
