superb cast and acting - the story is interlaced with wonderfully understated humour and this dramatization has treated it with reverence. Hannah Gordon was brilliant as the icy mother, and Aroon is so sensitively played, you can't help but feel for her.
The story of a young 'gel' growing up in 1920s Ireland (from my memory - I haven't been able to find it on DVD yet - still trying) in a privileged household, but totally overlooked as far as her feelings are concerned by her unimpressed mother. Some lovely one-liners throughout the story ("seals I think you mean, mother"... - love it!)
Sets are a bit wobbly (typical 1980s BBC drama sets), but this is more than compensated for by the wonderful storyline and sympathetic acting. If/when I find it on DVD, I'll buy it on the spot.
