Parkland Pictures will be selling the title at the European Film Market.

Declan Recks’ Irish-language feature Tarrac!, that premiered last summer at the Galway Film Fleadh, is to be distributed in the UK and Ireland by Parkland Entertainment – the sister company of UK sales outfit Parkland Pictures, who is also representing sales on the title at this month’s European Film Market (EFM).

A July 2023 release date has been set.

Haifaa Al-Mansour’s A Storm In The Stars and comedy Halal Daddy among those supported in latest funding round.

A culture-clash comedy set in Ireland’s first Halal meat factory is among the productions backed by the Irish Film Board (Ifb) in its latest round of funding decisions, which totals more than €3m.

Halal Daddy - the story of a young Muslim’s struggle to manage a rundown abattoir in the West of Ireland - has received a production funding commitment of €500,000.

It is one of a number of comedies backed by the Ifb as it faces the challenge of building on what has been a buoyant period for the Irish film industry, with a number of projects performing strongly throughout awards season. Comedy traditionally performs well with domestic audiences.

Ken Loach’s upcoming drama, Jimmy’s Hall, will likely be his last, according to regular producer Rebecca O’Brien.

“This is probably the last narrative feature for Ken,” O’Brien told ScreenDaily. “There are a few documentary ideas kicking around, and that will probably be the way to go, but this is a serious period-drama with a lot of moving parts so it’s a big thing to put together. I think we should go out while we’re on top.”

O’Brien, who has produced more than a dozen features with Loach since 1990, said that the 77 year-old director is likely to continue to make documentaries and TV work but that he is “unlikely” to make another narrative feature.

Fresh details emerge on the plot and cast of Ken Loach’s new film, which has begun shooting in Ireland.

Ken Loach has begun shooting period drama Jimmy’s Hall in counties Leitrim and Sligo, Ireland.

The cast features Barry Ward in the title role while Simone Kirby plays the female lead. The ensemble includes Jim Norton (Water for Elephants), Brían O’Byrne (Mildred Pierce) and Andrew Scott, who played Moriarty in BBC series Sherlock.

Ward is best known for theatre work such as The Plough and the Stars; Translations, both performed at The Abbey Theatre, Dublin. Simone Kirby is known for her Irish television appearances on Rte’s Pure Mule as well as her London and Off-Broadway theatre performances in Dancing at Lughnasa and Molly Sweeney).

The shift to filming in glorious 35mm has opened new doors of creative storytelling for the crew of Merlin, and the evidence is clear in the lush cinematography and haunting approach to “Lamia,” an all-new episode Merlin premiering Friday, February 24, at 10 p.m. Et/Pt only on Syfy.

The episode sets Merlin and several Knights of the Round Table on the road to a distant village to help treat those inflicted with a mysterious illness – but the young warlock quickly discovers he is the one in danger. As the Knights become increasingly bewitched by an alluring young woman named Lamia, Merlin finds himself with only Gwen as an ally as he’s lured into a game of cat and mouse against an unseen enemy more deadly than he could possibly imagine.

Lamia is played by actress Charlene McKenna, who is currently featured as the heroine of the popular Irish television series Raw.

London -- Neil Jordan's "Ondine" and "The Eclipse," directed by Conor McPherson lead the pack with eight nominations apiece in the race for film glory at the upcoming 7th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards.

A new Irish feature 'Snap' is set to commence principal photography this week in Co. Cork. 'Snap' is the debut feature film from writer/director Carmel Winters and stars award winning Irish actress Eileen Walsh (Eden, Pure Mule) and Aisling O'Sullivan (The Clinic). The third annual Irish Film and Television Awards in Dublin saw Liam Neeson take the best actor award for Kinsey and the Irish movie Pavee Lackeen scoop best film award. Filmmaker Perry Odgen won the "breakthrough talent award" for Pavee Lackeen. Best actress in a feature film went to Renee Weldon for Trouble With Sex. Winners in television included the Irish drama series Pure Mule, which scooped a host of awards including best actor for Tom Murphy, best actress for Dawn Bradfield and supporting nods for Gary Lydon and Eileen Walsh.
