Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian and actor who launched a more than six-decade run in show business in 1960 with his introduction of a deadpan, stammering everyman character whose popularity he rode well into his 80’s with a Grammy-winning comedy album and a pair of beloved Emmy-nominated sitcoms, is dead. He was 94 and passed away at his home on Thursday following a short illness. His longtime publicist Jerry Digney announced his death in a press release.
Newhart burst on the scene in 1960 with his album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” the first comedy album ever to top the Billboard charts. It won three Grammy Awards in ’61, including Album of the Year, Spoken-Word Comedy Album and New Artist. Newhart’s first two albums of comedy monologues (the second called “The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!”) in fact held Billboard’s top two spots simultaneously, a rare feat.

Reese Witherspoon has bent and snapped her way into a full-fledged “Legally Blonde” empire.
After playing L.A. sorority girl turned Harvard Law School student — and arguably, feminist icon — Elle Woods in 2001, Witherspoon has led sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” and is slated to star in a third film written by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor. Kaling previously teased that the third film will center on Elle Woods reevaluating both her career and her perspective on life at age 42, telling Time magazine that she would never want the character to “be canceled or become a Karen.”
While the status of that trilogy installment is still unknown, given that the feature was announced in 2022, Witherspoon has turned instead to building out the “Legally Blonde” brand through TV.
IndieWire can confirm that a “Legally Blonde” prequel series titled “Elle” is in the works at Prime Video, with Witherspoon producing.

CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.

Long before Greta Gerwig's pink pop cultural juggernaut Barbie came along, the fuchsia feminist revolution began with 2001's Legally Blonde. As blonde and brilliant SoCal socialite-turned-Harvard law student Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon helped create a bona-fide cult classic and one of the 21st century's first great big screen heroines. Now, a couple of decades after 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Witherspoon is gearing up to return to Elle Woods' world with her Hello Sunshine production company for several new Amazon spin-off series.
As reported by Deadline, Witherspoon — whose first Hello Sunshine/Amazon collaboration, Daisy Jones & The Six, debuted on Prime Video last year — is set to team up with Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for the first project, which is furthest along in development. Schwartz and Savage are set to write the series, whose plot currently remains tightly under wraps, with Witherspoon taking on a producing role.

Dylan Mulvaney is dreaming big, and one of the characters she would like to play is Elle Woods from Legally Blonde.
In a recent interview, the singer and actress said that her dream theater role was to play Glinda in Wicked, but her “dream dream” was to portray the Harvard Law School student that Reese Witherspoon famously played in the 2001 film.
“My dream though is to do a trans Legally Blonde,” Mulvaney said in an interview with IMDb during SXSW. “I wanna play Elle Woods and have maybe a trans Emmett and a trans Paulette. And I think what’s so cool about plugging trans people into existing stories is it inherently changes what the topic is, but in a way that you don’t actually have to do much to the script because it becomes something different — but actually, I think it makes it even more powerful.”

Most recently seen in the Fox anthology series Accused and the Tim Story-directed Disney+ comedy Dashing Through The Snow, Rajskub has also had notable parts in recent years in Hulu’s award-winning Amanda Seyfried miniseries The Dropout and the Chris Pratt sci-fi film The Tomorrow War for Amazon.

In a 2022 interview for Variety, actor, writer, and director Christopher Guest said, “When I met (Jennifer Coolidge), I knew there was something going on that was special. And I was right, fortunately.” He praised her ability to command attention without commanding the dialogue. “This person stands out. Everyone else to me is invisible. You want to see her.”
We have seen her on our television and theater screens since the early 90s. And 2023 may have been her best year yet.
So, what happened to Jennifer Coolidge, the self-deprecating eccentric humorist and sometimes sex symbol, who owns over 100 credits in television and film? To know that, we must do what we always do: start at the beginning where the beginning began.
Jennifer Coolidge was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28, 1961. She says she always looked old for her age, so she was able to buy a case of beer when she...

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

Old Dads is a comedy film directed by Bill Burr, who also co-wrote the film with Ben Tishler. The Netflix film follows three middle-aged men, who find themselves not fitting in the customs of the modern and often times very fragile and easily offended world. Burr’s style of comedy makes the film work as he also stars in the lead role alongside Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine. So, if you loved the Netflix film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

The more things change, the more the Hollywood studios stay the same. At least that’s one of the surprising lessons of Barbenheimer, Sound of Freedom, Indiana Jones 5, Mission: Impossible 7, Fast and the Furious 10, and the other big-budget summer box office bets trying to help the movie business pull off a historic comeback.
Twenty years ago, we wrote a book, Open Wide, about a battle at the multiplex on the weekend of July 4, 2003, for the hearts, minds and dollars of the American public. In some respects, nothing has changed. The showdown that July weekend two decades ago pitted pink against black, and a sparkly self-actualized blonde heroine against a grim avatar of thermonuclear war.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Who would you most want to travel with out of the cast of "The White Lotus?" Back when season 2 was airing, that question was posed to various actors from the hit HBO show during the behind-the-scenes previews for the next week's episode. The answer was always, without hesitation, Jennifer Coolidge. After winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Limited Series/Anthology or Motion Picture for her role as Tanya in "White Lotus" season 2, her moving and hilarious speech made Coolidge even more endearing. Season 3 of "White Lotus" was officially announced in November of 2022, but sadly, Coolidge won't be returning. That leaves the door open for the in-demand actor to pursue other opportunities as she enjoys her ongoing surge in popularity.

With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).
Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

To this day, Elle Woods remains one of Reese Witherspoon's most iconic roles. We were first introduced to the beloved character two decades ago in "Legally Blonde." The film premiered in 2001, and its sequel, "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," arrived in 2003. The franchise has since gotten a spinoff movie and a musical, and, in June 2018, Witherspoon announced that "Legally Blonde 3" had been greenlit. The movie has been pushed back multiple times over the past four years, and as of now, it's been delayed indefinitely. So, what happened?
How Many Times Has "Legally Blonde 3" Been Delayed?

According to Metro, in September 2019, the film was pushed back to May 8, 2020, instead. Well, the release date came and went and nothing happened, but considering movie theaters were...

Grammy-nominated jazz songwriter, singer and pianist Dave Frishberg died yesterday, according to a post on his Facebook page. His wife April Magnusson said he had been battling an illness for several years. He was 88.
Frishberg had a long and varied career that stretched from the Greenwich Village jazz scene of the ’50s to work as a studio musician in L.A. in the ’70s, to cutting his own Grammy-nominated albums and doing music for films and TV.
But his greatest fame came from his involvement with Schoolhouse Rock, a 1973-85 series of Saturday-morning shorts on ABC that used music and rhyme to help kids learn basic facts, with such memorable songs as “Elementary, My Dear”, “Conjunction Junction” and Frishberg’s “I’m Just a Bill”. “I’m Just a Bill” was famously spoofed on Saturday Night Live in 2014.

Octavia Spencer might be a world famous actress with three Academy Award nominations under her belt and one win for The Help, but her road to the top was hardly easy. Only in the last decade or so has she become a regular and recognizable fixture on our screens, despite having been working in the industry for almost a quarter of a century.
Early roles included small parts in episodes of ER, The X-Files and Malcolm in the Middle, as well as playing Woman in Elevator in Being John Malkovich, Check-In Girl in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Security Guard in Legally Blonde 2. It took the 50 year-old a long time to catch her big break, but now she’s firmly established as one of the most consistently watchable names in the business with a string of critical and commercial hits over the last few years.

November can be a slow month for streaming services. Amazon, however, is entering into 2020’s penultimate month with some steam.
Amazon is really beefing up its TV library in November 2020. Both Community (which arrives on Nov. 8) and Scrubs (Nov. 14) will be added to Amazon Prime this month and in the process complete the streaming trifecta: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu. That’s pretty impressive stuff for both shows. And then on the film side of things, November 1 sees the arrival of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Twilight, and the Underworld franchise. Somebody didn’t tell Amazon Spooky Season was over and bless them for it.
As for the originals, Alex Rider is the most intriguing TV series here. That is based on the British spy novel series and premieres on Nov. 13 on IMDb TV (which is available to all Prime subscribers). That will be followed by Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Nov.
