Some roles are hard to shake. Ben Foster ("3:10 to Yuma," "Alpha Dog," "Six Feet Under") found this out the hard way on a recent promotional tour for his new film "The Messenger." At Hunter Airfield Base in Georgia, he started experiencing severe leg pain from an injury he never suffered. His leg "froze up," he says. "I couldn't walk downstairs without limping. It was so strange." Foster plays a soldier recovering from leg and eye injuries after returning from Iraq. "The mind and the imagination are really curious places. I'm sure those things will drift. That's what we do" as actors, he says. "We allow ourselves to believe things. It's just an occupational hazard." Y Tu Mama Tambien star Diego Luna is ready to step in where Patrick Swayze left off as the male lead in Havana Nights, the much-talked-about second installment of the Dirty Dancing franchise for Artisan Entertainment, Miramax Films and producer Lawrence Bender. With Luna's deal set and Guy Ferland (Bang Bang You're Dead) at the helm, the only major piece missing is Luna's dancing partner, who has yet to be cast. Sources said producers hope to zero in on a female lead in the coming weeks, with shooting scheduled to start early next year and a release date of Nov. 21, 2003, already marked on the calendar. Inspired by the 1987 original but set in 1959 Cuba, Havana Nights follows the story of a 17-year-old girl who moves with her family to revolution-era Cuba. While there, she defies her family's wishes when she falls for a young Cuban dancer (Luna) who helps her discover herself and the world beyond her sheltered existence.
