This was the first of just a handful of songs that featured the three Mangeshkar sisters, Lata, Asha, and Usha, together.
Gemini's S.S. Vasan had originally envisioned this as a Tamil film. The studio's staff writer Veppatthur Kittu wrote its script based on the 1953 Broadway play "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" which was adapted earlier for a 1959 Hollywood film of the same title. However, Sivaji Ganesan turned down the film when Vasan approached him with the script. The producer then decided to make the film in Hindi instead. Following the Hindi film's successful release, Sivaji changed his mind - the Tamil film "Motor Sundaram Pillai" (1966) was released with him playing the role Ashok Kumar essayed in the Hindi original. The film was also remade in Telugu as "Manchi Kutumbam" (1968) and in Malayalam as "Samudram" (1977). .
Ding Dong Ding Dong Ding Lala
This was a rare instance of a Hindi film song being used as is in a remake - possibly the only one. The film sequence was re shot but the audio recording was used without changes in the film's Tamil remake "Motor Sundaram Pillai" (1966).
SS.Vasan signed Manoj Kumar after Hariyali Aur Raasta. He asked Manoj how much he was paid for the film. Manoj was paid rs 11 000 but wanted for from V.V. Vasan. He told Vasan he got rs 22 000 and he got the amount. The reason Vasan signed Manoj was so he could ghost write scene's for the film. While travelling near the outskirts of Madras, Manoj rewrote some scene's. Vasan was impressed with Manoj and promised him the day he would become a director, he would produce the film for him.
