The Speedway

Shot over 20 years ago, Vivid Video's "The Speedway" recalls days when contract stars were Big stars, and fans would get the semblance of a real movie (albeit B level) when watching a porn feature. It holds up fairly well with the passage of time, probably due to star power.

It's a Janine vehicle, made special by reuniting her with Julia Ann, her live show teammate crucial in her earliest porn success. Janine plays a race-car driver for an all-girl team managed by slimy Randy Spears, well-cast in an unsympathetic role.

Vying for the driver's seat on the team in place of Janine is Raylene, who steals the movie for my money. Her presence is something of a necessity for Vivid, because at this stage of her career Janine was still only shooting girl/girl scenes, leaving Ray to pick up the slack by taking on all studs.

The all-star cast extends to Shanna McCullough as a team mechanic and Sindee Coxx impressive as always as yet another hetero surrogate helping Janine out by seducing new team mechanic Nick East. Best actress in the cast is Inari Vachs, also assigned a pivotal role.

Plenty of atmosphere is provided by shooting at a race track including some real racing footage, with the car used being sponsored by rival (but friendly) porn label Adam & Eve. For traditional Adult Cinema fans this feature has a whopping nine sex scenes (including Sapphic sex for Janine with Julia Ann) concisely choreographed and edited into a 90-minute package. Of the participants, both Julia Ann and director/cameraman Ralph Parfait are still going strong two decades later.
