a huge surprise. because it is honest portrait of Romanian revolution of 1848 in Transylvania. because it escapes from the temptation to be a nationalist manifesto , proposing honest fresco of a clash who has expressions in today reality. Vlad Rădescu does a remarkable Avram Iancu. and the film has the courage to ignore the ideological recipes. result - few poetic images, the clear motivations and positions, realistic story about different at first sigh interests, precise definition of the policy of Austrian Empire in the problem of nationalities. it is far to be a manifesto or a pledge for one part cause. it represents only the exposure of events and decisions behind theirs. sure, it is not a documentary. but it has a great virtue - the high honesty to tell the truth about not comfortable events , about a cause and about the force of national ideal. and that is the most important detail who defines it as an admirable film.
