Freddy Krueger has joined the cast of the next IP-smashing slasher from the makers of microbudget hit “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.”

Well, almost. Robert Englund, who famously played the murderous horror icon across the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films, will star in “Pinocchio: Unstrung,” the latest standalone feature to join the so-called low-budget Twisted Childhood Universe. Richard Brake, a regular collaborator with Rob Zombie and whose horror credits also include the likes of “Barbarian” and “Mandy,” has also joined the film in the key role of Geppetto.

Meanwhile, Variety is able to reveal a first-look of the actual — and fully practical — Pinocchio doll, created by Todd Masters, the Emmy-winning special effects artist known for “Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight” and “Child’s Play” (he also worked on “Dune: Part Two”).

Starz has announced the movie and TV titles that will be available on the service in September. The Starz September 2024 schedule includes the premiere of Three Women, a limited series based on the New York Times bestselling book that explores female desire through the compellingly raw and honest stories of three women on a crash course to radically change their lives.

Part Two of the final season of Power Book II: Ghost will also premiere. On the film front, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Imaginary, Arthur the King, Knock at the Cabin, The Strangers: Chapter 1, Training Day, Ant-Man, and several other notable titles will join the Starz app this month.

The second half of the fourth and final season of “Power Book II: Ghost” premieres on Friday, September 6, at midnight Et on the Starz app. On linear, it will air on Starz at 8:00 p.

The Adams Family, an actual family unit of filmmakers comprised of father John Adams, mother Tobey Poser, and their daughters, quickly established a punk rock DIY spirit, wearing multiple hats each on films The Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, and last year’s Where the Devil Roams. That continues in their latest, Hell Hole, an ambitious ode to the classic creature feature. It’s not the gory creature effects that elevate a classic setup in this scrappy effort, though it certainly helps. Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.

However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.

While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

Among the myriad reasons we could call the Criterion Channel the single greatest streaming service is its leveling of cinematic snobbery. Where a new World Cinema Project restoration plays, so too does Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I think about this looking at November’s lineup and being happiest about two new additions: a nine-film Robert Bresson retro including L’argent and The Devil, Probably; and a one-film Hype Williams retro including Belly and only Belly, but bringing as a bonus the direct-to-video Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club. Until recently such curation seemed impossible.

Deadline writes in their report, “the world premiere of Death Becomes Her will run at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre from April 30 – June 2, 2024.”

Megan Hilty (Wicked, TV’s Smash) stars as the character “Madeline Ashton” alongside Jennifer Simard (Company, Once Upon A One More Time) as “Helen Sharp.”

Just a couple days ago, DC Studios head James Gunn announced that a Swamp Thing movie will be part of the first slate of DC films he will be producing as he reboots the DC Universe. Yesterday, we heard that Logan director James Mangold is in early talks to direct the Swamp Thing movie. So today seemed like the perfect time to release a new episode in the Revisited video series that looks back at the 1982 film adaptation of Swamp Thing (watch it Here). Director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight, Long Lost) is back this year with She Came from the Woods, an ’80s-set summer camp slasher movie that now has an official trailer.

Fangoria first shared the trailer this morning, letting us know that She Came from the Woods will be slashing its way into theaters on February 10, 2023. Watch the retro trailer below!

Last year’s Deadly Illusions was the fourth feature directed by Anna Elizabeth James, but her first thriller. When it was released through the Netflix streaming service, it was the #1 movie on the service worldwide for eight days straight. So it makes sense that James’ fifth feature is also a thriller. This one is called Blunt and stars Amy Smart (Mirrors), Billy Zane (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), Matt Davis (Terror of Dracula), Greer Grammer (Awkward), and Ne-Yo (Red Tails).

Smart’s character is

a single mother who wakes up to find herself hogtied and held captive at her country vacation rental by an unknown assailant. In a race against time, she must piece together clues from the previous guests to find out who assaulted her, and hopefully survive the ordeal.

Deadline reports that Voltage Pictures is handling global sales on Blunt and will be presenting it to potential buyers immediately.

It’s time for a new episode of our Revisited video series, and with this one we’re taking a moment to pay tribute to one of the most iconic horror hosts of all time, Elvira. The Tales from the Crypt TV series was coming to an end in 1996 with the last season airing from April–July. After seven successful years, the Crypt Keeper was saying goodbye to TV and hello to Hollywood. Things got off to a good start in 1995 with Demon Knight, the first of a proposed Tales from the Crypt trilogy.

This was soon followed by Bordello of Blood. The film centres on a private investigator who, after looking into a missing person’s case, discovers that the local funeral parlour is also a brothel populated with vampire prostitutes. The Pi teams up with the missing person’s sister and a charismatic reverend to take on the vampires and their beautiful and deadly leader, Lilith.

The film was released in theatres 25 years ago on 16th August, 1996. However, the film had a difficult and turbulent production that meant it didn’t quite have the same bite as its predecessor.

Sanders (Queen Sugar) are among nine cast in HBO Max’s Dmz, a limited series based on the DC comic series from Ava DuVernay and Roberto Patino, and Warner Bros. Television. Director-producer Richard Donner, best known for helming the “Lethal Weapon” film series, “The Goonies” and the original “Superman” film, died on Monday. He was 91.

Donner’s production company confirmed news of his death to Variety, though the cause was not disclosed.

Though not his first bigscreen effort, his big feature break came with 1976’s “The Omen,” starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. Thereafter, he brought his craftsmanship to the first “Superman.” He also branched out into producing, usually with his wife Lauren Shuler Donner — he executive produced the huge 2000 success “X-Men” and later the prequel “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” But his career was highlighted by the “Lethal Weapon” series, starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, which elevated him to the ranks of directors generating more than a billion dollars in box office.

Born Richard Donald Schwartzberg in the Bronx, he attended Parker Junior College and then NYU, where he majored in business and theater.

One of the most important documentaries released this century, Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on February 2nd, following its streaming release on Shudder back in 2019.

Tonight, the artistry of practical effects are being celebrated at a very special screening event that’s not only celebrating the 25th anniversary of Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, but also a huge milestone in the industry, as it was recently announced that the Visual Effects Society has reinstated the “Practical/Special FX” award for their annual awards ceremony.

For Todd Masters, the “Masters”mind behind the special effects in Ernest Dickerson’s Demon Knight, he’s thrilled by the inclusion, but is quick to realize that it’s just one small step in the right direction.

“It is exciting that the Ves is finally accepting practical effects, but it is one category encompassing both television and film, so I do think we have a ways to go,” Masters explained. “It also seems to be taking every aspect of practical effects, including pyrotechnics and things like that, in addition to makeup effects.

Exclusive: The Wire and The Walking Dead director Ernest Dickerson has been tapped to direct the majority of CBS All Access’ straight-to-series true-crime drama Interrogation.

Dickerson, who has worked as director of photography on many of Spike Lee’s films including Do The Right Thing and Mo Better Blues, will direct six of the ten episodes and has also come on board to exec produce the series.

The drama stars The Outsiders’ Kyle Gallner, X-Men: Apocalypse’s Kodi Smit-McPhee, Peter Sarsgaard and David Strathairn and has a unique structure with nine episodes of the series released to watch in any order with the conclusive season finale released at a later date. Each episode of the series is structured around an interrogation taken directly from the real police case files, with the goal of turning the viewer into a detective.
