Who will win Record of the Year at the 2025 Grammys? This award goes to the artists, producers, and engineers of the year’s best single. That’s where this differs from Song of the Year, which goes specifically to songwriters. Though this award is not technically a popularity contest, commercial success is typically a major factor, like Miley Cyrus‘s reigning champion “Flowers,” a blockbuster that spent several weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. So will the next winner be a big hit as well? Scroll down to see our official racetrack odds, which are calculated based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. The odds are always changing, so we’ll be updating this list as the season progresses.
For most of history there were five Grammy nominees in the Record of the Year category, same as there were for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Nobody in their right mind would go into the heart of darkness with Francis Ford Coppola. And by most accounts, a lot of the cast of Apocalypse Now wasn’t. But someone who really went for it was Laurence Fishburne, who famously landed his role at just 14, having lied about his age so he could go off and work on Apocalypse Now.
Fishburne – who played “Mr. Clean” in Apocalypse Now – remembered just how important it was for him to land that film, especially at such a young age. “It’s very difficult to describe what that whole situation was like, because, as you know, I was a young person. I was 14, I was 15, I was very impressionable. I was still developing and it was an impactful event in my life. It took two years. “If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me / Time after time / If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting / Time after time.”
Those are some of the lyrics from Cyndi Lauper’s iconic song “Time After Time.” Co-written by Lauper and Rob Hyman, it was the second single from the singer’s debut album, “She’s So Unusual.” And 40 years ago this month, “Time After Time” became her first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lauper had actually come very close to topping the chart earlier that year. Her debut single, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” made it to number-two in March 1984.

No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.
As Blunt sang with all her heart, I couldn’t help but think of how perfect the timing was.
Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. The Taylor Hackford-directed movie was met with solid reviews and healthy ticket sales. But its most notable success was Collins’s song, which quickly took the Billboard chart by storm.

During his Thursday appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Ryan Gosling dug deep and answered some questions from the host that normally wouldn’t be revealed.
Included in that was a query on whether he had ever asked someone else for an autograph.
“The first person I asked was The Ultimate Warrior, and he said no,” Gosling said, referring to the pro wrestler. “But the second person I asked — the first person to give it to me — was Ms. Angela Bassett.”
Gosling said the moment came just after he had seen the 1993 Tina Turner biopic, What’s Love Got to Do With It, for which Bassett garnered a nomination for a Best Actress Oscar. Gosling was in the lobby of the AMC Theatre where he’d caught the movie.

Chadwick Boseman may have left this world earlier than the rest of us three and a half years ago, but he still remains as alive as ever in the hearts and memories of his fans, friends, family, and especially his co-stars. Among these co-stars comes Hollywood’s very own favorite Angela Bassett as well, who played his loving mother in the Black Panther saga.

As she recently shared during an interview, not only did working alongside the late legend mean an incredible lot to her, but she even felt that she was perhaps destined to play Boseman’s mother, almost as if it was all already written in the stars. Known for portraying Queen Ramonda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Angela Bassett earned her second Oscar nomination for the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Nominated alongside Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis from Everything Everywhere All at Once, Hong Chau from The Whale, and Kerry Condon from The Banshees of Inisherin, Bassett was considered a frontrunner to bag the award, especially after winning a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for the 2022 film.

The Oscars are among the most prestigious awards for actors and artists in the film industry. Every year, despite countless brilliant performances, only a few lucky ones make it to the nomination list, and only one among them emerges victorious. While some are lucky to get various chances every other year or so, some unfortunate ones only have one big shot at the basket.
Oscars
And for one MCU actress, it seemed she had that one big shot but got snubbed despite winning in the same category at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. And even Oprah Winfrey was upset that the actress ended up losing despite giving one of the best performances of all time.

Angela Bassett is admitting just how “disappointed” she was to lose out on the Academy Award for her “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” role at last year’s ceremony.
The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star was the expected frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2023 Oscars. Bassett portrayed Queen Ramonda, who appeared in both “Black Panther” films before meeting her fatal end in “Wakanda Forever.”
Bassett reflected on losing the Academy Award to Jamie Lee Curtis for her work in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” during a recent “OWN Spotlight” series interview with Oprah Winfrey, which you can watch in the below video. Bassett’s comments come ahead of the 2024 Academy Awards, airing live on Sunday, March 10 on ABC.

In a recent interview with Oprah as part of the “OWN Spotlight” series, Angela Bassett admitted she was “gobsmacked” when she lost the Oscar for supporting actress last year. Bassett was nominated for her performance in Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” She had won the Globe Globe and Critics Choice Award, but the supporting actress race remained somewhat open leading into Oscar night as Curtis won the SAG Award for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and Kerry Condon won the BAFTA for “The Banshees of Inisherin.” Curtis ended up winning the Oscar.
“I just knew your name was going to be called,” Oprah told Bassett. “I was beside myself [when it wasn’t]! We were beside ourselves.”

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey for OWN, Angela Bassett got candid about how she felt when she lost the Oscar for best supporting actress in 2023 to Jamie Lee Curtis.
Winfrey brought up the moment, recalling, “We’re all in our pajamas, watching you on Oscar night … 30 years after you were nominated for What’s Love Got to Do with It, but didn’t win. So I just knew your name was going to be called and then when they didn’t, I was beside myself.”
She then noted that Bassett’s despondent facial reaction became a meme. “People are saying your disappointment showed, but I thought you handled it really well,” said Winfrey.
Bassett agreed. “I thought I handled it very well, also. And that was my intention, to handle it very well,” she said. “It was, of course, a supreme disappointment, and disappointment is human. So I thought, yes,...

Three decades ago, Tina Turner reclaimed her history with the soundtrack album for the movie What’s Love Got to Do With It. She re-recorded hits she’d originally cut with her abusive ex-husband, Ike Turner so that they could stand on their own as testaments to her survival. These included “Nutbush City Limits,” “Proud Mary,” and “A Fool in Love.” She was in her early 50s, her voice still sounded great, and the album became a hit. Now, the record will be even bigger when it’s reissued on April 26 as an expanded box set.

From a filmmaker’s perspective, it’s always fortuitous when the name of an artist’s signature work encapsulates the journey that they made in their life and career. What else to call a film about Johnny Cash? “Walk the Line,” of course. A Tina Turner biopic? “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Aretha Franklin? “Respect,” of course. There’s a reason the forthcoming Bon Jovi docuseries is called “Thank You, Goodnight,” and not “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

For 15 minutes or so, Bob Marley: One Love promises to be an antidote to the usual cookie-cutter music biopic, the kind skewered by the 2007 spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Riffing back then on 2005’s Walk the Line, which starred Joaquin Phoenix as troubled country star Johnny Cash, Jake Kasdan’s film took aim at the whole jukebox-movie industry, featuring a solemn lead character who “has to think about his entire life before he goes on stage.”
Spoiler alert: this kind of thing also happens in One Love. But Reinaldo Marcus Green’s film promises so much more, things like real-world politics, emotional complexity, and serious danger. In other words, an alternative to the usual narrative of the greenhorn who dreams big, lives that dream, and then gets sucker-punched by The Man. Gradually, though, the realization dawns that we’re being sold a pup. As Led Zeppelin might say,...

Who will win Record of the Year at the 2024 Grammys? This award goes to the artists, producers, and engineers of the year’s best single. This is different from Song of the Year, which goes specifically to songwriters. Commercial success is typically a major factor in this race, like reigning champion “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, so will the next winner be a big hit as well? Scroll down to see our official racetrack odds, which are calculated based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. The odds are always changing, so we’ll be updating this list regularly as the season progresses.
For most of history there were five Grammy nominees in the Record of the Year category, same as there were for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. From 2019 to 2021 there were eight Grammy slots in those races. In 2022 the academy further expanded that to 10 slots.

Spend on UK film and high-end TV slid sharply to £4.23B ($5.3B) in the strike-hit 2023, according to the BFI’s latest annual stats.
The figure was 35% down on a record 2022, the BFI said, while floating the silver lining of £4.3B being nearly level with 2019’s pre-Covid spend. There were other green shoots such as a small rise in cinema admissions.
It will come as little surprise that the figures fell so starkly given that the latter half of the year saw film and high-end TV production severely dented due to the writers and actors strikes across the pond.
Film production in the UK fell to £1.36B in 2023 spend, a 31% drop on 2022’s figure, while high-end TV was down by the larger 38% to £2.9B. As with the past few years, high-end TV made up the brunt of overall production spend at around two-thirds.

In the 95-year history of the Academy Awards, 88 films have each received nominations for both Best Actor and Best Actress. Although there have been 19 cases of two or more movies doing so in a single year, there hasn’t been such an occurrence since 1996, when both lead lineups included performers from “Dead Man Walking” and “Leaving Las Vegas.” However, according to Gold Derby’s late-stage 2024 Oscar nominations predictions, that nearly three-decade gap is set to soon be closed by costar pairs from “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Maestro.”

Exactly 20 years after he made history as the first Black performer to win a Golden Globe for a multi-part limited series, Jeffrey Wright is widely expected to triumph on his second general notice from the same organization. According to Gold Derby’s odds, he is the frontrunner in the 2024 Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor race based on his work in “American Fiction,” which is also set to compete for Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best Screenplay.
