- TriviaAccording to director Fred Dekker, Shane Black's first draft of the screenplay was so huge that the opening of the film featured Van Helsing accompanied by zeppelins and hundreds of men on horseback storming Dracula's castle. Dekker stated that this sequence would have cost more than the final budget of the film.
- GoofsWhen the three Pantry Girls have become vampires and they walk down the hallway towards three of the Monster Squad boys, their reflection is visible in the mirror on the wall to the right of the screen.
- Alternate versionsThe TV print shown on TNT contains roughly four minutes of additional deleted scenes not included on the DVD release, including:
- 1. In the opening scene, immediately following the opening title, one of Van Helsing's men fights off one of the vampire women and accidentally pulls the stake out of Dracula's chest, resurrecting the Count.
- 2. An extended "comedy routine" scene between the two pilots flying Dracula and Frankenstein's coffins in the World War 2 bomber plane.
- 3. A scene between Phoebe and her mother in the kitchen. The mother tells Phoebe to go watch her favorite TV show, but Phoebe says her PTA won't let her on the grounds it contains "too much sex," which leads the mother to retort under her breath, "We could use a little sex in this house."
- 4. An extended scene where the boys are discussing whether or not they know what a virgin is, leading to them asking Rudy if he knows any.
- 5. When the boys and Frankenstein go to the mansion to retrieve the amulet, there is an additional scene showing them approaching the house where Horace expresses his fear.
- 6. A scene of Rudy putting his arm around Patrick's sister (to her disgust) as they observe the carnage following the movie's finale.

Add a dash of The Goonies with classic Monster's, simmer with 80s styling and you have a hit!
So much nostalgia for this film ..however I first discovered this film back in the mid nineties. Funnily enough it was scrawled onto a label of my friends blank VHS tape which obviously they used to tape from regular TV with old adverts and all lol
Sidenote: one of the adverts was of a Marathon bar before it turned into snickers UK readers will remember the brand change lol
Anyhow I digress.
I was staying over at my friends house and I noticed this name Monster Squad because it sounded so silly and I said we should watch it later. ..obviously hoping it was going to be that type of movie that was ..so bad it was actually good.
Something strange happened we giggled at the premise and the B movie styled monster's but gradually became instantly hooked . If you have not seen this movie and loved The Goonies then you are in for a treat .
80s films have this timeless quality and over time this movie has almost surpassed The Goonies in my opinion.
The Monster's are a B Movie styled but it is intentionally done due to being a family film .
Embrace yourself in a time where it was a innocent time period where we played .. with freedom and adventure with our childhood friends and that feeling is encapsulated here.
Not going to win any awards but it's a cult film and needs to be remembered.
