After being asked repeatedly for a Cheers (1982) spin-off, the show's producers offered NBC two pitches: one by Ken Estin which involved the Tortelli family; and another by David Angell, which would have been a prequel series set in the 1950s featuring a younger version of Coach Ernie Pantusso during his playing days.
