In the 1980s, a group of young actors gained popularity through a collection of coming-of-age movies that became classics.
These movies have aged like fine wine, immortalizing the group forever as teen idols despite the passing of decades.
Who are these infamous actors, and why do we love them so?
Fans call them the Brat Pack, a group of eight -- five males and three females.
While the world adored the Brats, the group hated the association with the name and each other.

More experimental short films to enjoy! Disney has launched a "Season 2" collection of five short films as part of their experimental program Short Circuit, similar to Pixar's SparkShorts program. Sometimes even a superhero needs to clean up his act. Going Home - About growing up and the meaning of home in which a young adult repeatedly visits his hometown, but with every new arrival he starts to face the inevitable: change. I'm confident in saying that, as a kid, nobody loved Johnny 5 quite as much as I did. John Badham's Short Circuit was on pretty much constant repeat in my household through 1987-88, and I vividly remember being near-hysterical near the end of Short Circuit 2 when it looked like Johnny 5 was going to die. While talk of a Short Circuit remake has been…...

Prolific movie producer David Foster, who collaborated with Steve McQueen on “The Getaway” and shepherded Robert Altman’s “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” died Monday in Los Angeles. He was 90.
Foster started in the business as a publicist representing McQueen along with Peter Sellers, Richard Attenborough, Shirley MacLaine, Andy Williams and Sonny and Cher.
He left publicity and partnered with Mitchell Brower, where their first production was acclaimed 1971 Western “McCabe and Mrs. Miller.” Warren Beatty and Julie Christie starred, with Christie netting an Oscar nom.
In 1972, he produced Sam Peckinpah’s “The Getaway” in collaboration with McQueen and Ali McGraw. It became one of Peckinpah’s most financially successful films.
Foster partnered with “The Graduate” producer Larry Turman in 1974. The Turman Foster Company started out with “The Drowning Pool,” starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and continued with “Heroes,” John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” “Running Scared,” 1994’s reboot of “The Getaway” and “The River Wild.

With the release of Tremors 5: Bloodlines last week, we thought this would be a perfect time to speak with Jonathan Melville, author of the recent book, Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors, which takes a look back at the original film, the Tremors sequels, and the ill-fated television series.
What inspired you to celebrate the Tremors films in book form (beyond the fact that they’re awesome fun)?
Jonathan Melville: I remember watching Tremors on BBC One here in the UK in 1994 (I was 16) and immediately falling for the mix of comedy, horror, sci-fi, western and romance that I hadn’t seen in any other film.
From then on I kept stumbling across the sequels; I rented Tremors 2 from a VHS store while on holiday in Canada and the others on video and DVD when they came out—and each time enjoyed the way the franchise evolved. There...

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. We've removed a bunch of projects that seem utterly dead - the once mooted remakes of Videodrome and Timecrimes, for instance - but we'll keep this list up to date as and when we hear of more.
Without further ado, here's what's coming up...
Akira
One of Hollywood's most on and off projects, the current state of the live action Akira remake is that it's back in the works. Marco J Ramirez, the showrunner for season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil show, has been hired to pen a screenplay. Warner Bros is still backing the film,...

The first trailer for "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp's robo-fable "Chappie" made it seem like a sweet, humorous riff on the same kind of existential conundrums that have defined science fiction stories that center around artificial intelligence. (Also: it looked kind of like "Short Circuit 2.") With the new trailer for the March 6th release gives you a deeper sense of the world and emphasizes the story's darker elements, which is odd since we've heard that it's easily the filmmaker's funniest movie to date.
In the world of "Chappie," set in the near future, robotic police officers have been deployed in war-torn South Africa. On one side of the debate is a corrupt law enforcer (Hugh Jackman) and on the other, a deeply feeling scientist (Dev Patel). The titular robot (Sharlto Copley) is "the new step in evolution," and one that is kidnapped and partially raised by two thugs...

Ah, "The Strain." How we love thee... Let me count the weird little vampire worms and copious concentration camp flashbacks. If there's a single guilty pleasure TV show we watch with the least amount of guilt possible, it's "The Strain," the excessively violent, altogether gooey FX series that is based on a series of novels by Guillermo del Toro (who directed "Pacific Rim") and Chuck Hogan (who wrote "The Town"). So it is, with some giddy pleasure we report that the Toronto-based Global News is saying the show will return for a second season.
The series is shot in Toronto, making for some of the least convincing "New York City" moments since "Short Circuit 2," and apparently the show will gear up for production in mid-November. Sounds good to us.
For those of you who are instead watching some kind of high class BBC America thing, "The Strain" is a...

If you’re looking for some good movies to watch this three-day holiday weekend, I’d like to suggest a double shot of Paul Mazursky, the under-appreciated filmmaker who died Monday. A whole marathon of his work is in order, really, especially if you’ve never seen Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice or Harry and Tonto or Next Stop, Greenwich Village (come at least for Bill Murray’s first film appearance and a great early Christopher Walken) or An Unmarried Woman (a terrific feminist classic) or the crazy Alex in Wonderland (come at least for the Fellini scene). But two of my favorites are his big releases in the mid-80s, Moscow on the Hudson and Down and Out in Beverly Hills, and I think they make a perfect double feature for Independence Day. First up is Moscow on the Hudson, which in early 1984 led the wave of comedies involving immigration and migration to New York City (see...

Usually June is associated with the first real month of summer -- a time to go out and frolic through the wilderness like a snowman that doesn't know any better. But it also gets really, really hot, which has people retreating to their local multiplex or, even better, their luxuriously air-conditioned living rooms. With that in mind, take a look at the television shows and movies that will be available on Netflix's steaming service come June (via Vulture).
Thought the snail-who-dreamed-of-being-a-racecar saga ended with last summer's DreamWorks Animated joint "Turbo?" Think again. Apparently there's a television spin-off. And you can watch it on Netflix. We also have to give it up for a pair of wonderful sequels that are going to be on in June: the obviously-shot-in-Canada-even-though-it's-set-in-New York robo-epic "Short Circuit 2" (a favorite since childhood) and the far darker and more sinister "Wolf Creek 2," a sequel to the...

Sometimes movies that are questionably profitable get sequels, and "Kick-Ass" is one of those movies.
A skewering of the superhero genre, "Kick-Ass 2" is pretty much a direct sequel to the original film. Once again, we're again dealing with a "real world" version of New York City that is infested with makeshift superheroes led by Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), along with new superheroes like Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey).
Of course, it seemed like most people were only sort of interested in "Kick-Ass" the first time around (maybe it sold a lot of Blu-rays?) so it remains to be seen if anyone will actually show up for "Kick-Ass 2." Either way, read on to find out if you should make the trek to the theater or if this is one you can skip out on.

Fisher Stevens has revealed that he may star in the upcoming remake of the 1986 family sci-fi comedy, ‘Short Circuit,’ TMZ is reporting. The actor played the Indian character of Ben Jabituya in the original film, which was helmed by John Badham and starred Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg. Ben helped Guttenberg’s character, Newton Crosby, invent the robot Johnny 5. Stevens, who also appeared in 1988′s ‘Short Circuit 2,’ told TMZ that he has been speaking with the producers of the remake to make an appearance in the new film. “I wish them luck and if they ask me to be in it, we’ll see what happens,” the actor said. Frank Langella stars in the new film, Frank & Robot, the trailer of which debuted this week. Colour me impressed – and tangerine – I Love being orange, even more than impressed, Fyi.
If this trailer is anything to go by, this one seems to pull of a tricky balancing act. If you can, check out the trailer, embedded below. I’ll wait.
Well, viewing that sure took you a while. I am now painted completely tangerine. Let’s continue.
Anyway, Frank & Robot stars Frank Langella as an ageing luddite in a near future who is resistant to accept the assistance of a robot helper. However, when he decides to pull off one more great heist (oh yeah, you should probably know he’s like an ex-con or something – God, I’m the worst at this – it’s like “Hey, so here’s the punchline, what’s that? I didn’t set up the pertinent information?...

During last week’s blisteringly funny Valentine’s Day-themed episode of Happy Endings it was determined that, in their own bizarro Friends world, Dave is Ross, Alex is Rachel, Penny is Phoebe, Jane is Monica, and Max is (Fat) Joey. (Which, by default, makes Brad Chandler. Makes sense, though Chandler was never this cool.)
But in last night’s episode, the almost aptly-titled “Everybody Loves Grant,” the gang had a whole new set of identities to live by: Dave is The Dave, Alex is The One with the Store, Penny is The Single One, Jane is The Type A One,...

There are signs of life once again in the long-unplugged "Short Circuit" remake.
Dimension Films is going forward with the new adventures of Number 5 (later "Johnny 5") as the studio has hired Tim Hill to direct the robot mayhem, according to Deadline.
The project originally had Steve Carr ("Paul Blart: Mall Cop") attached to direct with Dan Milano set to write the screenplay. Things were shut down back in 2009, and now the studio has turned the power back on.
Hill ("Hop," "Alvin and the Chipmunks") will supervise a new script about an experimental military robot designed to be the perfect weapon that becomes sentient (and lovable) after it's struck by lightning.
The original "Short Circuit" was released in 1986 and starred Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenberg and Fisher Stevens (and his rather peculiar accent). Stevens and Johnny Five returned for the 1988 sequel, "Short Circuit 2."

Given how California has treated the crown-and-tiara crowd in the past, it's a wonder Kensington Palace's finest are back for more today. Oh, the Golden State means well, Prince William and Kate Middleton, but this is Hollywood. Things really are different here. Consider these weird highlights from royal visits past: 1. Fergie Gets Flowers From Johnny 5: Why, isn't it every young duchess' dream to come face to bulging mechanical eyeball with the robot from Short Circuit? Sorry, Short Circuit 2. Yes, that makes it much more special. 2. George Burns Talks Dirty to Queen Elizabeth: Well, all right, per an account of a 1983 Hollywood gala for the Queen and Prince Philip, Burns...

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
African Cats – Samuel L. Jackson (Narration)
Deep Gold – Bebe Pham, Jaymee Ong, Michael Gleissner
Madea’s Big Happy Family – Tyler Perry, Loretta Devine, Bow Wow
Water for Elephants – Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz
Movie of the Week
Water for Elephants
The Stars: Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz
The Plot: A veterinary student (Pattinson) abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.
The Buzz: This period piece looks to be a well put together romantic drama. I enjoyed Pattinson’s general vibe in the trailer; thankfully a far cry from his brooding ham-bake of the Twilight films. Witherspoon is winsome, I typically love her in her more dramatic pieces — aside from the laborious Vanity Fair. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of on-screen magic this pair can conjure up. Happy to see Christolph Waltz again,...

The King's Speech I'm not starting with The King's Speech because I think it's the best film of the bunch, though I did thoroughly enjoy it. But when a film wins Best Picture you sort of have to give it top placement... don't you? That said, I'm surprised the Weinstein Co. isn't pulling some kind of "The Rated Version You Could Only See in Theaters Before We Replaced it with the PG-13 Version" as a marketing tactic. I mean, you gotta spin it any way you can at this point don't you? The Way Back I have not yet had the chance to see Peter Weir's latest and while I haven't heard any negative buzz I haven't heard any overwhelming endorsements either. Anyone out there seen it and want to tell me I have to see it? Personally,...

It is a fine tale of a man who becomes a fish. Wait, a fish? Los Angeles Times’ 24 Frames is reporting director Richard Linklater will helm the Warner Brothers’ remake of “The Incredible Mr. Limpet.” An official announcement will be made soon. Linklater’s last big studio film was with 2005’s “The Bad News Bears” with actor Billy Bob Thornton. He mainly directed independent films like “A Scanner Darkly,” “Fast Food Nation,” “Before Sunset,” and “The School of Rock.” The original 1964 “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” film starred Don Knotts (“The Andy Griffith Show,” “Three’s Company”), Carole Cook (“Sixteen Candles,” “Home on the Range”) and Jack Weston (“Dirty Dancing,” “Short Circuit 2”). The original hybrid live-action/animation story is about Mr. Henry Limpet wanting to join the U.S. Navy. However, he was rated 4F and unable to join the military. So he wished to become a fish. At Coney Island,...

Before you even get started: 1) Rocky was released in 1976, so "Eye of the Tiger" doesn't even qualify for this list, and 2) it wouldn't have merited inclusion anyhow because, by "inexplicable," I mean bad. So, you won't be seeing any Kenny Loggins on this list (Loggins' worst songs were better than any of the ones below), nor will you see "Fame," or any other '80s soundtrack song that didn't abuse synthesizers. I have no doubt that many of you actually like some of these songs, but they only worked given their context and the decade. Unless it's a parody movie, you can't use any of these songs anymore. Because they are bad. Very bad.
And please, do not try to justify the quality of number two. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," or "Love is a Battlefield" or "Hell is for Children," maybe. But that song? No.

Today Universal released Get Him to the Greek, a sort-of sequel to 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it uses Aldous Snow who had a small role in the original. Beyond that, there is only a brief reference to Sarah Marshall, which has me thinking it's not really a sequel as much as it is a spin-off. The same could be said for a movie like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)... Same characters, but not really a sequel to Clerks, which ended up having its own sequel in 2006.
In a debate with a group of fellow Seattle critics trying to decide if Get Him to the Greek was a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or not, the topic turned to comedy sequels in general and I was asked to name a great comedy sequel. Should be easy... right?

Less than five years after his introduction in comics, Steel made it to the feature film pantheon of super-heroes. At one point, Warner Bros. was intending to produce a film adaptation of the best-selling Death of Superman storyline and it was decided that a Steel spinoff movie made sense. When it became clear that major Superman buff Shaquille O'Neal was serious about an acting career and that the Death movie was not going to happen, Warners decided to go for a modestly budgeted film anyway.
The $16 million project was handed to science fiction television veteran Kenneth Johnson whose only previous feature experience was directing Short Circuit 2. They were betting that he would bring the same magic here as he did with the Incredible Hulk. He wrote and directed a film that was lambasted upon its August opening, earning a meager $1,686,429.

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

"BioShock 2" drops next Tuesday, and I know that feels like a long time, but I've got a juicy exclusive to tide you over: A guide to every plasmid and tonic in the game. Don't worry, no story spoilers here. It's just a lengthy list of all the delightful powers you'll be able to discover in the strange and creepy world of Rapture. And here we go!
Plasmids
Plasmids are the equivalent of magic in the world of Rapture. Using "eve," you can unleash all sorts of interesting attacks right from the palm of your hand. Many of the plasmids from the first "BioShock" return in the sequel, but they've all been given interesting enhancements. Most plasmids can be purchased at the Gatherer's Garden vending machines, while some will be given to you throughout the story.
(Note: These are only the single-player plasmids. There are some multiplayer-exclusive plasmids to unlock, but...

For a moment I was actually wondering where Megan Fox had gone. After all, from the release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen until the Jennifer’s Body bomb exploded, Ms. Fox had been everywhere. Magazine covers, racy photo shoots, more magazine covers and, yes, tons of online articles because, let’s be honest, Megan Fox captures eyeballs. Not literally, that would be weird…yet a lot more interesting than Megan Fox actually is.
So in the spirit of the summer of 2009, here’s some outtakes from Fox’s recent spread (ahem) for the NY Times magazine. She looks so natural in these pics. I can picture Megan Fox actually making these poses when watching Short Circuit 2.
The pics:
Here’s a snippet from the interview in Nyt Magazine:
On being too pretty to be liked by women:
“Women tear each other apart,” she told me now. “Girls think I’m a slut,...

Disney and ImageMovers have hired Ann Peacock to write an adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s novel “Airman” for director Gil Kenan (City of Ember). The $150 million production will be utilize the motion capture techniques pioneered by Robert Zemeckis on such films as The Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol.
The title doesn’t refer to the military term for flight personnel in the Air Force. No, this can’t be a movie focusing on actual heroes. Just the fictional kind with makeshift costumes. Nor is it about the kind of hero that pilots a fighter jet or swoops in on mutant wings. It’s better. Finally there will be a movie that centers on the graceful sport of hang gliding. Yes!
I can barely contain my excitement. Sure there have been scenes with actors hanging from fabric. Kurt Russell in Escape from L.A and Harold and Kumar Go...
