The European Film Academy is honoring German filmmaker Wim Wenders with the European Lifetime Achievement Award.

Wenders, who has been nominated for three Oscars and a Grammy, is known for works such as the Road Movie trilogy (1974-1976), Paris, Texas (1984), and Wings of Desire (1987).

“With this award, we celebrate Wim Wenders’ outstanding body of work which keeps exploring and experimenting with a curious eye and an open mind,” said Matthijs Wouter Knol, CEO and director of the European Film Academy. “As one of the founding members of the European Film Academy, its Chairman from 1990 until 1995 and President until 2020, Wim Wenders has a strong connection to the European Film Academy and we’re additionally happy to also celebrate his outstanding commitment and say thank you.”

Exclusive: Tasha Smith (Bad Boys: Ride or Die), Chris Perfetti (Abbott Elementary), Francois Arnaud (Yellowjackets), Susan Park (Shining Vale) and Cree (Turtles All the Way Down) are the newest additions to the cast of Twinless, the dark comedy that James Sweeney wrote and is directing for Republic Pictures.

Details as to the newcomers’ roles are under wraps. As previously announced, Dylan O’Brien, Aisling Franciosi, Lauren Graham and Sweeney will also star in the film, which follows two young men who strike up an unlikely bromance after meeting in a twin bereavement support group.

David Permut and Sweeney are producing, with O’Brien and Miky Lee serving exec producing. Three Point Capital is financing the pic with Ali Jazayeri, David Gendron and Liz Destro also serving as executive producers. Sabrina Carpenter is back with another music video folks can’t stop talking about, and this time, she’s joined by “Wednesday” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” star Jenna Ortega. Fittingly, the video is full of horror, camp and cult classic movie references — and we’ve put together a handy list to guide you through them.

1. “Death Becomes Her”

This is the most overt reference and it runs throughout the video, as “Taste” has a few references to Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep’s 1992 dark comedy. Most obviously, the core conceit of two unkillable women fighting to the would-be death over one man, as well as the iconic costuming.

There’s also the whole shotgun sequence, which heavily tips its hat to “Death Becomes Her,” right down to the hole left in Carpenter’s torso — a parallel to Goldie Hawn’s unforgettable “I have a hole in my stomach” scene — and the shot peering right through it.

And Peacock, Universal’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, has just unveiled its Halloween programming line-up, full of tricks and treats from the studio’s back catalog, as well as two new series (“Teacup” and “Hysteria!”) for some fresh scares.

In 2022 and ’23, there was at least one big Blumhouse movie that simultaneously debuted on Peacock — in ’22, it was David Gordon Green’s trilogy-capping “Halloween Ends” and last year, it was the video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. This year doesn’t have anything quite like that, but it’s still a powerful collection of titles for every viewer.

The Sept. 1 batch includes classics like “Bride of Frankenstein,” “It Came From Outer Space” and “Werewolf of London;” 1980s favorites like “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” “The Funhouse” and “The Thing;” along with more modern hits like the original “Candyman,” Jordan Peele’s “Us” and several entries in the “Saw” franchise.

Peacock invites you to face your fears this Halloween with more than 150 new horror titles headed to the streaming service from September 1 straight through All Hallow’s Eve.

From Universal classics, like Frankenstein, The Raven and Phantom Of The Opera, and nostalgic favorites, like Child’S Play, The Craft and Candyman, to frightening franchises, like Saw, The Purge and Leprechaun, and the best of Blumhouse, like Get Out, Halloween Kills and Happy Death Day, Peacock aims to be “your Halloween HQ with a full spectrum of scares to enjoy.”

Texas-born actor Glen Powell takes obvious pride in his Lone Star State roots, and still spends significant time at his family’s ranch outside Austin. It must be a particular thrill then to be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame — an annual honor that recognizes the best film talent associated with the state. IndieWire here exclusively announces Powell is now joining the hall of fame’s ranks.

Filming’s currently underway on Taylor Sheridan’s latest drama, Landman, starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade). The new drama, set in West Texas, joins Sheridan’s roster of projects at Paramount+ that includes Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, 1923, Special Ops: Lioness, Tulsa King, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Christopher Garetano has been dreaming of making a narrative feature (or limited series) about the making of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for a long time, and wrote the first draft of that project – titled South Texas Blues – back in 2006. As he has worked to bring the idea to the screen, he has also had sections of the script illustrated and published in the pages of Fangoria magazine and had plans to turn it into a three-part graphic novel, but only the first part of that adaptation was ever published.
