The Paramount Pictures studio had planned to release the film on DVD in 2002. Due to legal and copyright issues to do with several of the clips featured in the film, the DVD release was ultimately canceled.
Writers Harry and Michael Medved worked as consultants on this film, which was inspired by their books, "The Golden Turkey Awards" and "The Fifty Worst Films of All Time". The brothers were so incensed by their treatment by the film's producers (and the end result) that they devoted a small entry to it in their subsequent book, "The Hollywood Hall Of Shame".
The ice cream truck with the stoner clown was originally used by Cheech & Chong in their movie 'Nice Dreams' (1981).
Reportedly, directors and executive producers Andrew Solt and Malcolm Leo spent about five months researching and collecting movie clips from about 500 feature films. They then decided to expand their search beyond the 75 titles that this documentary's production house, the Paramount Pictures studio, had licensed for the film project, so as to include other selections from film history other than those just from this Hollywood major.
When this film was broadcast on NBC, the network deleted the scenes where Cheech and Chong smoke marijuana as they view anti-marijuana propaganda films as well as a clip from 'Wonder Bar' (1934) featuring Al Jolson and a full chorus in black-face.
