It's 1943 New York City. Brendan Byers III (Jerry Lewis) is one of richest men in America. He wants to join the fight, but the Army declares him 4F. This means that he is in the last group to ever be called up. He is desperate to fight and recruits the other 4Fs to form a volunteer army.
This came out in 1970. I wasn't around, but I have to assume that this felt old even back then. This is the downside of his career before the newer worshipping generation would give him all the applauding cameos. Also, this is in the middle of the Vietnam War. I don't think that either side would like this. It's not really an anti-war movie or pro-military. With some distance and a bit of generosity, I can see what Jerry is trying to do. It's still a lot of nonsense and not funny nonsense at that. I never felt connected to these characters. In the end, I didn't laugh and that's that.
