The 15th and final film in MGM'S long-running Dr. Kildare/Dr. Gillespie film franchise that ran from 1938 to 1947. The first nine films starred Lew Ayres as Kildare, and all 15 featured Lionel Barrymore as Gillespie.
Final film of George Reed. Reed, who appeared in 137 films (usually uncredited), was a veteran African-American character actor born to former slaves just three years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
This film failed at the box office, resulting in a loss to MGM of $448,000 ($5.2M in 2018) according to studio records.
This film received its initial television presentation in Cincinnati Friday 21 December 1956 on WXIX (Channel 19) (Newport KY); it first aired in Chicago 3 January 1957 Channel 2), in Minneapolis 8 February 1957 on KMGM (Channel 9), in Altoona PA 16 March 1957 on WFBG (Channel 10), in Philadelphia 19 May 1957 on WFIL (Channel 6), in Los Angeles 12 December 1957 on KTTV (Channel 11), in San Francisco 13 March 1958 on KGO (Channel 7) and in Seattle 25 July 1958 on KING (Channel 5). In New York City, its initial telecast took place 16 November 1959 on WCBS (Channel 2).
