      Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle got the assignment to direct this film because William Randolph Hearst felt guilty about how his newspapers had savaged Arbuckle during his three murder/rape trials in 1922 and ruined his career, despite his eventual acquittal.

      Near the beginning, when Willem uses his cane to strike at Ignatz on the table, the mouse "jumps" off the table onto the floor and runs away. However, from the way the rodent landed on the floor, it's apparent that it simply was dropped from above.

    Another comedic gem of a performance from Marion Davies

    This is yet another movie that should be shown to anyone who might doubt the talents of Marion Davies. She is delightful in this performance, with some wonderful bits of physical comedy. Director Fatty Arbuckle surely deserves the credit as well. The supporting players are also quite good, but make no mistake - this is her film.
