“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” just wrapped up Season 2 and the wait for next season could be a long one.
Luckily, there’s no shortage of incredible TV floating around. While everyone waits likely years for their next chance to step foot in the Second Age of Middle-earth, there are plenty of fantastical shows to keep up with in the meantime. On top of that there’s currently no shortage of prequel series out there.
From obvious picks like “House of the Dragon” to lesser-seen gems like “Black Sails,” these are seven shows to dive into for a binge while we wait for news on the next season of “Rings of Power.”

The recent cancellation of The Acolyte has triggered the fandom for numerous reasons. Still, beyond the hate campaign and some legitimate flaws the show had, its cancellation is a symptom of a larger problem with the TV streaming model.
According to Empire, streaming networks are churning out too many shows simultaneously, and they can't get the attention they deserve before a network pulls the plug. For the most part, Star Wars fans have been pretty lucky because there haven't been many shows, unlike other streaming services such as Netflix. Live-action Star Wars shows include The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and the yet-to-be-released Skeleton Crew. Only The Mandalorian has had multiple seasons. As of now, Boba Fett and Kenobi fall under the "limited series" category.

In addition to the Marvel and Star Wars titles on Disney+, parents also have the newly added Hulu titles as well.
To say that Disney+ is a good streaming service for kids seems like a fairly obvious thing to point out. However, when you dive deeply into the streamer and its library, you get a sense of just how vast its array of programming is for all members of the entire family. Disney+ is a real winner for homes with children of every age, not only because of the volume and variety of kids’ titles available, but because of the number of shows and movies for parents to watch after they put the kiddos to bed.

The Force of positive thinking continues to be strong with Ewan McGregor, who said at L.A. Comic Con this past weekend that he and… someone… are “exploring” possibilities for a second season of Disney+’s live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series.

Return of the Mexican sex bombs: Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna on their boxing comedy La Máquina
They shot to fame as randy teens in Y Tu Máma También. Now the duo are back in a tale of Botox, boxing and borderline incest. Getting in shape took discipline, they reveal – and lots of broccoli
Forget Oasis: there’s a more dynamic reunion in town. Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, the lifelong friends who first paired up on screen to play oversexed teenagers in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2001 road movie Y Tu Mamá También, are back. Unlike the Gallagher brothers, Bernal and Luna never fell out or became estranged. For 20 years now, they have co-run a documentary film festival and two production companies in their native capital Mexico City. Their acting collaborations, though, have been few and far between, with only the soccer-based Rudo y Cursi and the eccentric Will Ferrell vehicle Casa de mi Padre to their name since Cuarón’s vibrant hit climaxed with them tumbling into bed together.

Star Wars Resistance is a series that I am passionate about and always ready to defend. However, it's very much the dark horse of the franchise, often forgotten in the run of other shows. Now that it's been out for a few years, I think it's a good time to look at it again, discuss how it's the most unlucky of the Star Wars series, and why you should try it if you haven't. That's because Star Wars Resistance is Andor for kids!
Resistance's Unlucky Run Set the Stage For Star Wars TV After It
When Resistance was first released, some fans gave it a lot of criticism. It was heavily compared to The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. This is a bit of an unfair circumstance because Resistance does not function like its predecessors. It was doing something that Star Wars TV hadn't done up to that...

With Star Wars fans quickly starting to lose faith in Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's vision for the franchise (and her apparent inability to get new movies into theaters), the news that Dave Filoni would serve as the studio's Chief Creative Officer was welcomed.
He was already a key figure overseeing Disney+'s post-Return of the Jedi TV shows and, during last year's Star Wars Celebration, it was confirmed that he'll also helm his own movie. That's expected to serve as a conclusion to this current era of streaming storytelling, with Din Djarin, Ahsoka Tano, and more assembling to battle Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Before we get there, Ahsoka season 2 needs to answer some lingering questions and better set the stage for what could end up being Filoni's take on the classic "Heir to the Empire" storyline.

Say what you will about the Star Wars television output--and there's no denying that there is a lot to say--but people who find a connection to the galaxy far, far away have never had this much visual media to choose from. If you want a high-stakes adventure, you can binge The Mandalorian. Young and old can enjoy Young Jedi Adventures. This last summer, The Acolyte challenged our perceptions of the Dark Side and Jedi morality. That's not even taking into account projects that show the misadventures of The Bad Batch or Cassian Andor's early trials on the way to becoming a rebel leader.
I've spoken before about the strong points of Star Wars Rebels from the perspective of a newcomer, but I would now like to look at the series from a broader perspective. What is it about this show that creates such a lasting impression and begs for continuing adventures?...

Actor Giancarlo Esposito has revealed that Lucasfilm and Disney have plans to make The Mandalorian And Grogu the first in a trilogy (“or more”) of movies.
A movie spin-off from hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian, The Mandalorian And Grogu is currently shooting somewhere in California. According to regular Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito, however, the movie won’t be a one-off, but rather a trilogy – or perhaps an even longer string of big-screen entertainments.
Esposito, who plays the villainous Moff Gideon in the Disney+ show, mentioned this during Dragon Con, a pop culture expo held in Atlanta Georgia in September (news of which comes to us via Culture Slate and Games Radar).
Amid a broader panel discussion about The Mandalorian and other Star Wars TV shows, Esposito said, “Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a Mandalorian movie… My sense is that it’s all going...

The Star Wars franchise is one of the biggest in Hollywood today. The fact that we can even say that over three decades after it became one of the biggest franchises is a testament to its staying power. With 11 theatrical releases thus far, its drawing power is proof of its enduring success as fans love to head out to the movies to enjoy more adventures from that galaxy so far, far away.
The film saga expanded its horizons in recent years, branching out into streaming television. Yes, there have been a number of Star Wars shows produced for Disney Plus, including the iconic first one The Mandalorian, which has become one of the streamer's all-time biggest shows. Not all of them, however, have been the success that the streamer was hoping for, and thus not all of them have lasted as long as they should have.

Titles like ‘A Small Light’ and ‘Togo’ have been removed from Disney+ even as the streamer prepares to hike its subscription rates.
Disney+ is apparently feeling pretty confident about its ability to shrug off the ire of customers, these days. The service has enacted a new round of title removals, pulling more than 20 shows and movies from its catalog in its latest efforts to streamline. The removals themselves aren’t all that rare, but the response from Disney when asked about the pulled titles reveals a company that has no qualms about facing backlash from customers, despite the public relations year it’s had.
Key Details: Titles removed from Disney+ include “Hailey’s On It,” “Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez,” and more. Disney defended the decision to remove the titles, saying they represented less than 2% of its catalog. Disney+ plans are increasing in price starting Oct. 17. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.

On Monday, the streamer continued rolling out around-the-clock streaming channels for subscribers who don’t want to have to deal with deciding what to watch. Star Wars might not have had a lot of fan support these past few years. However, the films still managed to rake in a lot of money at the box office, remaining one of Dinsey’s most lucrative franchises. However, there was one film that never managed to be the bee’s knees for the franchise, despite George Lucas’ involvement in the project.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second installment of the Star Wars Anthology series of films that Disney shelved, had the lowest box office numbers of a Star Wars film, largely due to factors like not wanting the film to compete with Infinity War’s marketing cycle. However, George Lucas’ involvement should have at least merited a better environment for the film to be nurtured in.

Superman wrapped shooting earlier this summer, leaving filmmaker James Gunn close to a year for post-production. Cameras may have stopped rolling, but Deadline brings word today that Alan Tudyk has joined the cast.
While his role has not been disclosed, the actor is already playing Creature Commandos' Doctor Phosphorus so may show up as a live-action version of the Task Force M character.
However, given Tudyk's long list of voiceover roles, we're going to take a wild guess and suggest he could be lending his voice to the Green Lantern Corps' Ch'p (a talking alien squirrel).
Tudyk has a long list of credits to his name but Superman is far from the only big project he has on the horizon. We'll hear him in Moana 2 later this year and then in Andor season 2 as K2-so next summer.
It's been a busy week for Dcu casting news, with Kyle Chandler...

Exclusive: James Gunn’s Superman may be wrapped, but we’re hearing that Alan Tudyk is also part of the mass ensemble pic in an undisclosed role.

As far as Gunn and Tudyk’s previous collaborations prior to Superman, Gunn starred in an episode of Tudyk’s Vimeo series, Con Man which ran from 2015-2017.

The character is rumored to be making his live-action debut in an upcoming project after fan demand for the character to interact with the wider Star Wars universe. While details of Kestis’ live-action appearance are scarce, it might be a damage control move.

Kestis’ debut could set him up as the protagonist for an upcoming saga in the space opera franchise. As a result, it is worth pondering whether the decision to bring Kestis to live-action media might have something to do with the backlash received by Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker, who was the protagonist of the sequel trilogy. Here is everything you need to know about Cal Kestis’ rumored debut.

The new law requires companies that offer subscriptions to provide online and by-phone methods to cancel.
There’s no two ways about it: streaming services don’t want you to cancel your subscription. This is only natural since their primary goal in getting you subscribed in the first place was to make money off you. But some subscription services don’t make it easy to get out of your account, making you call a customer service hotline that could potentially have you waiting indefinitely before you get to speak to someone. The state of California wants to ease the burden on customers trying to cancel streaming subscriptions and has passed a new law with that aim in mind.

With Star Wars in a bit of a rut of late, Disney is turning to one of the franchise's most beloved modern day characters in hopes of a rebound. A new rumor from industry insider Daniel Rpk claims that Star Wars Jedi protagonist Cal Kestis will be making his live-action debut in a project "very soon."
The rumor was posted to Daniel Rpk's Patreon, but it was light of details. The scooper claimed that he couldn't share much, other than the character's live-action debut would be on Disney+. This likely means Cal Kestis will appear in either a yet-to-be-revealed Star Wars series, or perhaps an already existing series.
Set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the Star Wars Jedi games follow the adventures of Cal Kestis, one of the surviving Jedi currently being hunted by the Galactic Empire.

Disney+’s paid sharing ability closely resembles Netflix, which was the first streamer to crack down on users sharing passwords.
As promised numerous times over the past year, Disney+ is beginning to enforce restrictions against password-sharing between multiple households. Star Wars has dominated all of the fields that its properties have been placed into. It has been a big screen phenomenon, dominating the silver screen for decades with its legendary Skywalker Saga. It has also made its presence felt in the world of written fiction too, entertaining fans and adding to the lore via novels and comic books.
In 2019, however, it added live-action streaming television to its repertoire when The Mandalorian arrived on Disney Plus, furthering the Star Wars story and kicking off a whole new chapter for the Lucasfilm franchise, paving the way for more shows such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and The Acolyte.
But now, many fans consider it a sad time to be a Star Wars fan. Fresh off the news that the franchise's most recent series The Acolyte will not be returning for a second season comes some not-so-hopeful news...

Carlos Rosado Cobián, director of Spain’s Film Commission, cut a figure of intense pride as he stepped on stage in a small conference room this afternoon at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
That energy was matched by the audience of Spanish industry figures inside the room as Cobián introduced what he described as a groundbreaking report on the economic impact of international film and TV productions in Spain.
The commission’s report is the first of its kind in Spain and was produced by the UK-based consultancy firm Olsberg Spi in collaboration with the Spanish producers union Profilm.
The data collected in the detailed report covers four years, from 2019 to 2022. The analysis was collated using information from 165 productions that benefitted from Spain’s international incentive scheme.

It's been an interesting time in the galaxy far, far away these past few years. While Star Wars movies have stalled out — at least until The Mandalorian & Grogu hits the big screen in 2025 — there have been plenty of television shows to tide us over. Some of those have been transcendent, like Andor. Others have failed to capture a wide enough audience to continue and been canceled, like The Acolyte. You never quite know how new Star Wars shows will go over until they're out.
The next show coming down the pike is Skeleton Crew, and after hearing co-creator Jon Watts' latest comments about it, I'm officially excited. Skeleton Crew is about a group of four children who discover a secret, and then have to go on a galaxy-spanning journey with a mysterious man named Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) in order to get home. They'll no doubt face plenty of obstacles along the way.

Has Star Wars lost its sense of fun? Donald Glover, who played Han Solo's rogue friend Lando Calrissian in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, seems to think so, and he wants to bring that sense of fun back to his upcoming Lando movie. "Sometimes it’s way too serious," Glover told The Wall Street Journal of the Star Wars franchise. "Everything that has to do with the Skywalkers is like so serious. [With] Lando, I think the best part about him is he’s a scoundrel. And I feel like people can relate to that, and he’s probably like ‘man, this war is whack. I need money,’ which I feel everyone can relate to. I want to bring fun to ‘Star Wars.’ I just want it to be fun.”

Andor is probably one of the best things to come out of Star Wars, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. While the show received an overwhelmingly positive response, there are certain aspects I'm not a huge fan of and others that I believe deserve more focus in Season 2.
Let's take a look at what we need more of and less of in Andor Season 2.
1. We need more Cassian Andor
Not everyone who liked Andor is a fan of Cassian Andor. Just go through Lucasfilm's announcement of Andor, and the comments are full of fans complaining and asking why a "boring guy" like Cassian needs his series. I saw those, and I haven't forgotten them because they bothered me. I love Diego Luna and Cassian Andor. Above all, I watched Andor for him and hope he has more screen time than all other characters combined in Season 2. I think Cassian is compelling,...

The Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas, remains a cornerstone of modern science fiction. What began as an ambitious space opera has evolved into one of the most successful and beloved franchises in history. Over the decades, Star Wars has captured the imaginations of countless fans and continues to be celebrated as one of the greatest fictional universes ever conceived.
However, despite its status as a science fiction icon, the franchise has faced criticism, particularly since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. While some post-Disney productions, like Andor and The Mandalorian, have been well-received, others, including many of the sequel films and The Acolyte, have not achieved the same level of success.
Given the recent shifts within both Disney and Lucasfilm, the Star Wars franchise is expected to move forward, but at a more measured pace than initially planned. Reports from reliable insiders suggest that both companies are currently reassessing their future strategies.

The Star Wars series by George Lucas is a mainstay of contemporary science fiction. An extremely ambitious space opera project at first gave rise to one of the most successful and well-liked franchises in history. Star Wars has been around for a number of decades, inspiring admiration in many generations of fans, and it continues to rank among the greatest imaginary worlds ever imagined.
Despite being a mainstay of contemporary science fiction, as we have said, the Star Wars franchise has not been without its critics, particularly after Disney acquired Lucasfilm a few years ago. And while some post-Disney works remain popular – such as Andor and The Mandalorian – others, like most of the sequel movies or The Acolyte, are not as successful.

Adria Arjona, who appeared opposite Glen Powell in Netflix’s Hit Man, is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce Onslaught, the latest feature project from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire filmmaker Adam Wingard.
A24 is behind the action thriller after winning an auction in the spring. It reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are writing the project, with Wingard to be in the director’s seat when cameras roll in New Mexico later this year.
Many details for Onslaught are being kept in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller. The scope is said to more in line with Wingard’s earlier movies, which were all original creations, before he went off and made the big-budget spectacle hits Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong.

Disney+ likes to make its biggest TV premieres a primetime viewing event, and its latest Marvel show will be no exception.
Disney makes its latest trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this week when it releases “Agatha All Along” on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The new series is something of a follow-up to “WandaVision,” and follows the centuries-old witch Agatha Harkness as she tries to restore the powers taken from her by Wanda Maximoff.
Disney+ is now in the habit of trying to make new series from the Marvel and Star Wars universes appointment viewing, training viewers to gather around the TV at a particular time of day just like they once did when new TV premieres were the exclusive province of linear TV channels. “Agatha All Along” is the latest series to follow this trend, and has a specific release time scheduled every week.

The upcoming Star Wars film “Lando” may adopt a more lighthearted approach than recent installments in the saga. Actor Donald Glover, who will star as and co-write the film with his brother Stephen, said in an interview that he wants the movie to focus more on fun and adventure.
Glover portrayed Lando Calrissian in 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” He will reprise the role in the new film, which was originally planned as a miniseries but is now a single feature. Glover told the Wall Street Journal he thinks some Star Wars stories have become too serious. He wants “Lando” to capture the spirit of earlier films and remind viewers why they fell in love with the franchise.
The actor said the Skywalker family-centered plots have shifted the tone. But Lando offers a chance to show a more relatable side of the Star Wars universe. As a “scoundrel,” Lando...

Eight years ago, Peter Cushing was digitally resurrected to appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Grand Moff Tarkin, which has now prompted a lawsuit against Disney.
The lawsuit has been filed by Kevin Francis, a film producer and friend of Peter Cushing. He claims that Cushing “agreed not to grant permission for anyone to reproduce his appearance through special effects without his authorization” and that he allegedly “signed the agreement not to allow his image to be used without Francis’s permission in 1993 while preparing to make a television film called A Heritage of Horror, which was not completed.” In addition to Disney, the lawsuit includes Lucasfilm, Lunak Heavy Industries, which produced Rogue One, as well as Cushing’s agency and the estate’s now-deceased executors. The suit alleges that the studio got “unjust enrichment” from Cushing’s digital appearance in the movie.

There are several categories of bad movie. There are the bad movies that you love to hate, the films made with such a bizarre spark that you can't help but root on the whole thing as you imagine the future cult following. There are the bad movies that are simply uninspired and interminable, cookie cutter products assembled without much grace to match select decimals on a spreadsheet.
But then there's the rarest breed of bad movie. The bad movie that is well-made and brimming with ideas. The bad movie anchored by undeniably effective filmmaking and brash, bold visuals. The bad movie that feels unforgettable even as you're watching it, fully aware that there are moments you will never be able to scrub from your brain. And yet it does all of this while being an experience so unpleasant and frustrating that you simply cannot wait for the credits to roll...

Disney has faced several publicized lawsuits this year, and one more seems to have been added to the list now. The studio’s subsidiary Lucasfilm, which produced Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was reportedly sued by an associate of late actor Peter Cushing for using his likeness in the film after his death.
Cushing played Grand Moff Tarkin in the original Star Wars but unfortunately passed away in 1994, three decades before his likeness was used with special effects in Rogue One. While the court rejected Disney’s plea to dismiss the lawsuit and allowed it to go to trial, netizens wondered why it took the associate eight years to file a suit.

George Lucas created Star Wars back in 1977, hoping to make a sci-fi film with breathtaking visual effects that would resonate with children. However, Lucas ended up launching one of the most beloved and commercially successful franchises in the process, which is thriving even today. As a result, even Lucas could not have predicted the widespread impact of his film.

Despite primarily wanting to cater to children, Lucas had subtle but clever allusions to real-world politics in the first movie and the original trilogy. As the 2024 United States presidential election is around the corner, it might be worth reflecting upon Lucas’ poignant liberal messaging in the Star Wars franchise, which continues to dabble in politics even today.
