Today, Apple TV+ announced, in partnership with ZDFneo, the new fast-paced, eight-episode medical drama Krank Berlin from Violet Pictures and Real Film Berlin, co-created by former emergency room physician turned screenwriter Samuel Jefferson and Viktor Jakovleski.
Krank Berlin stars Haley Louise Jones as Dr. Parker and Slavko Popadić (Crooks), alongside an ensemble cast including Şafak Şengül (Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush), Aram Tafreshian (Dogs of Berlin), Samirah Breuer (The Gryphon), Bernhard Schütz (Barbarians), and Peter Lohmeyer (I don’t work here).
Managing a chaotic emergency room in the toughest and most overcrowded hospital in Berlin is no small task for the young Dr. Parker, who is seeking a fresh start in the big city after her private life implodes in Munich.
When she tries to implement necessary reforms, Parker is confronted with resistance from the underpaid, ill-equipped, and chronically fatigued hospital staff, who survive only with an indispensable dose of black humor.

Following “The Zone of Interest,” Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” and Berlinale offering “Treasure,” about a Holocaust survivor, the latter starring Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham, Poland might be welcoming more foreign shoots in the future.
“I would always be willing to return and shoot in Poland,” says “Treasure” director Julia von Heinz.
“Our co-producer Mariusz Włodarski from Lava Films realized that during the tenure of the Law and Justice [PiS] government, there was no chance of obtaining public funding for a story where Polish people are portrayed not just as victims and heroes, but as complex human beings. Now, our film is embraced there.”

Ahead of the UK premiere of graphic and disturbing supernatural horror film The Well at FrightFest Glasgow 2024, director Federico Zampaglione talks about returning to hardcore horror, working with the late, great Giovanni Lombardo Radice and emerging from the shadow of Italian masters of the genre.
So, Federico, The Well has its UK premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival, as part of the popular FrightFest event. Are you excited?
Frightfest is the place where everything started in 2009 and it’s one of the best festivals in the world. I can’t wait to show The Well to the UK fans.
What inspired you to make the movie?
Wanting to get back on the horror horse! I deeply love this genre, because it speaks to the human soul, investigates our unknown fears and gets lost in deep darkness whilst clinging to a blade of light. The Well pushes at the most extreme emotions,...

Since its establishment in 2018, Gaumont Germany has produced a wide range of series and TV movies, among them such timely shows as the critically acclaimed “Deutsches Haus” (“The Interpreter of Silence”), which was nominated for the Critics Choice Awards, and the Ukrainian series “In Her Car.”
A subsidiary of the French entertainment powerhouse, the Cologne and Berlin-based company also created such ambitious shows as Netflix’s historical epic “Barbarians” – the first season of which was one of the streamer’s most successful non-English-language series worldwide – and the award-winning Sky Original comedy “The Wasp,” about a professional dart player seeking to return to his former glory.
Discussing the company’s latest productions, Gaumont Germany President Sabine de Mardt says it’s important to combine broader entertainment with relevance, something both “The Interpreter of Silence” and “In Her Car” offer.

It’s a story — the attempted genocide of Europe’s Jews by the Nazis and their willing executioners — that has been told many times before. But, say the creators of the new German TV drama The Interpreter of Silence, it’s a story that needs to be told again and again.
The five-part limited series, which bowed on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ worldwide Nov. 15, is up for this year’s Critics Choice Awards in the best foreign-language TV series category. The period drama will go up against the South Korean series Bargain, The Glory, Mask Girl and Moving, the French crime series Lupin, and the Italian mafia drama The Good Mothers.
Set in Frankfurt in 1963, The Interpreter of Silence follows the events of Eva Bruhns, a 24-year-old German woman, played by Katharina Stark, who gets a job as a Polish-to-German interpreter in the Auschwitz trials, the...

Written by Hoesl, the film will debut in the World Dramatic Competition section of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. It marks the first title acquired for sales under the newly rebranded Magnify label.
In “Veni Vedi Vici,” the Maynards and their children lead an almost perfect billionaire family life. Amon is a passionate hunter, but doesn’t shoot animals, as the family’s wealth allows them to live totally free from consequences.

Driven by a TikTok trend in September, the Roman Empire became a popular topic online, especially fueled by a trend that emerged on TikTok in early September. The trend consists of women asking their boyfriends and husbands how frequently they think about the Roman Empire and being surprised by the answer.
The TikTok trend primarily suggests a male inclination towards the Roman Empire. Looking at the audience demographic breakdown of popular shows in the genre, we can see that their audiences are mostly made up of men, but not overwhelmingly. Beside Starz’s “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” and UK’s “Britannia,” shows that men made up almost two-thirds of the audience, the other shows on our list below have a balanced gender breakdown. In the case of Netflix’s docudrama “Roman Empire,” the audience is even slightly female-skewed.

As one of the best combat classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, Barbarians can easily earn a spot in just about every kind of party. Of course, you won’t get the most out of your Barbarian if you don’t pick the best subclass for you.
Once again, the phrase “for you” should hover over this entire discussion. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a remarkably well-balanced game, which means that you have a fair chance of guiding any kind of Barbarian through this expansive adventure however you see fit. Wrong decisions in this game are certainly possible, but they’re relative to what you’re trying to get out of the experience.
Having said that, those who are trying to “min/max” and get the most mileage out of the Barbarian class from a statistical standpoint should certainly consider some subclasses to be more viable than others. So far as that goes,...

Over the decades, viewers have enjoyed many historical-fiction shows, as it is not just a great way to learn about the subject matter, but the indulgence factor works well in such shows. There is drama, treachery, lust, love, killing, and, most of all, historical accuracy as well. Vikings, Marco Polo, The Tudors, Reign, Downton Abbey, Versailles, and Barbarians are some examples of popular television shows in the historical fiction genre, and all of them have one thing in common: a focus on the politics and the drama of the era. Domina, created and written by Simon Burke for Sky Atlantic (UK and Italy), is about the infamous Roman Empire, which in its early turbulent period was ruled by Augustus Caesar and his wife Livia Drusilla, the protagonist of this show. The power of this woman made sure she and her husband would remain undefeated for a long time.

Amplify Pictures, the independent television studio behind HBO’s Emmy-winning “100 Foot Wave,” has made a pair of hires. It has tapped Rachel Eggebeen as its chief content officer and Colin King Miller as its chief operating officer. The veteran executives will take founding partnership roles alongside Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis.
“It’s a time of expansion,” Lewis told Variety in an interview. “We’re growing our team and becoming more global.”
At the same time, Amplify has sold a minority stake to Great Mountain Partners. It is understood that the deal values Amplify at $50 million. The funding will be used to back more production of original series of both the unscripted and scripted variety. Great Mountain Partners previous investments include the Oscar-winning film studio A24, branded content producer Rise Studios and the Vuelta Group, a European film studio.

Druids and Barbarians are the two “worst” leveling classes in Diablo 4 by a considerable distance. Both classes excel in the Endgame, but getting them there requires a ton of patience and a lot of gear. Of course, having the right leveling build doesn’t hurt. That’s obviously what we’re here to talk about today.
Just note that this is a pure leveling build for Barbarians. That is to say that it’s intended to get you from level 1-50 as painlessly as possible. While you can continue using this build in World Tier 3, its power level falls off considerably at higher difficulty levels. At that point, you’ll want to consider swapping to one of Barbarians’ best Endgame builds.

Welsh actor Alexander Vlahos, known for his roles in TV series such as “Merlin,” “Outlander” and “Versailles,” is set to play a British ornithologist who, during a field trip to Sicily, gets involved in more than mere birdwatching.
Shooting is underway in Sicily on the indie drama “Hearts of Salt,” the first feature by London-based line producer Rosa Russo. The passion project is structured as a three-way co-production between Italy, the U.K. and Tunisia, with shooting also planned in the North African country. Tunisia will serve as a second location besides the Italian island.
Though plot details are scarce, “Hearts of Salt” will see Vlahos — who will soon be seen opposite Lindsay Lohan in the Netflix rom-com “Irish Wish” — arrive in Sicily on a mission to study the effects of climate change on bird migrations. However, the ornithologist will soon have to abandon his role as a detached observer...

Much like Druids, Barbarians struggled during Diablo 4‘s betas. However, long-time Diablo fans knew that the class would find its way once the game really started to open up. Well, that’s exactly what happened. In fact, Barbarians have arguably been the most “nerfed” class in Diablo 4 since the game’s launch.
Those recent alternations leave Barbarians in a strange place. Their build diversity was already lacking, and their most viable early builds were quickly nerfed. However, it turns out that Barbarians are still ridiculously powerful in the Endgame., You just have to know what makes them tick and how to support that strategy. Of course, that’s what we’re here to do.
As with our other recent builds, this article will (temporarily) not cover Paragon Boards. That’s largely because Paragon boards are still being optimized and because

Your choice of class will impact your Diablo 4 experience. Some will find that their enjoyment of the game will depend on whether or not they’ve picked the class that fits them best. However, everyone will eventually discover that some Diablo 4 classes appear to be much more powerful at launch than others.
For the most part, the Diablo 4 team did an excellent job of making every class viable and unique at launch. You can get through as much of the game as you want simply by picking the class you have the most fun with. However, this is still a Diablo game. Some classes are ultimately at least slightly better equipped to handle the game’s various challenges. Hence these rankings.

I never really had any doubt that Diablo 4 would be a fun game. It was easy to lose hours (even days) to Diablo 4’s betas. Through ups and downs, the Diablo games have long been fundamentally enjoyable to play.
What worried me most about Diablo 4 was the game’s live-service structure and all of the things that typically go along with that business model. Microtransactions, content gating, the exhaustion of keeping up with a game that never ends…you don’t have to dive too deep into hypotheticals to see how it could all go wrong. Just look at what happened to Diablo Immortal.
So after finally getting to play the (mostly) full version of Diablo 4, it’s my strange duty to report that Diablo 4’s best qualities often work because of the game’s live service nature rather than in spite of them. It’s an odd dynamic that...

Diablo 4‘s Server Slam weekend offers one more chance to try the game’s “beta” before the game launches in June. Since this will be the game’s third early access period so far, we actually have a pretty good idea about how the game’s classes stack up against each other and which should be the most powerful during the Server Slam period.
So while we’ll have to update these rankings ahead of the game’s proper release, here’s a look at where every class in the game stands ahead of this final beta weekend.
Barbarian – A Straightforward Powerhouse That is Perfect for Beginners
Anyone vaguely familiar with previous Diablo games (and most RPGs for that matter) should know what to expect from Diablo 4’s Barbarian class. If not, then just know that Barbarians are mighty melee powerhouses who rely on multiple massive weapons to carve their way through waves of foes.

Netflix is getting into the "let's kill Nazis violently" sub-genre of World War II films with the upcoming "Blood & Gold." This movie may not be on your radar just yet, but it seems like the kind of title that is destined to build up some buzz once it arrives on the streaming service next month. To that end, a new trailer for the German war flick has been released online that offers an extremely fun look at what promises to be a murder-heavy tale of revenge.
What's particularly entertaining about this "special trailer" is that it gives the film an old-school, grindhouse makeover that gives us a little bit of a Quentin Tarantino flavor, with "Inglorious Basterds" being the obvious touchstone. But it feels more at home with the fake trailers that were attached to 2007's "Grindhouse," even though this is a very real movie that you can watch in just a few weeks.

The Diablo 4 team just unveiled a series of changes designed to address player feedback from the recent beta. While many of the changes are significant, some of the most notable changes affect Diablo 4‘s worst class: the Barbarian.
The Barbarian looked promising in the early days of the Diablo 4 beta. It was a very beginner-friendly class that offered a simple melee playstyle, a lot of defensive tools, and a ton of stats. In Diablo 4′s opening stages, the Barbarian felt like one of your best overall class choices.
As you played more of the game, though, you probably realized Barbarians suffer from some pretty significant deficiencies. Most notably, their slow movement speeds and struggles with quickly closing gaps made many boss fights more difficult than they should be. Boss fights often left Barbarians stuck in damage zones with woefully ineffective ways to deal significant damage to single targets. Speccing your...

Some traditions in the Diablo games, just like the Lord of Terror himself, never die. The iconic Diablo boss The Butcher is a prime, and evil, example of that concept. While he was missing from Diablo 2, he returned for seconds in Diablo 3, and The Butcher will also come bearing a platter of pain in Diablo 4. If you plan on playing that game’s Open Beta, you can even sample this boss before the game’s retail release. You just have to get a little lucky (or unlucky) to find and fight him.
As Diablo veterans probably remember, The Butcher was the very first boss players faced in the original Diablo. This demon quickly left an impression thanks to all the NPCs who built him up by talking about him, his unique room filled with butchered corpses, and his haunting catchphrase of “Ahh…fresh meat!” Unfortunately, Diablo 4 doesn’t give The...

The Diablo 4 Open Beta is a sampling of the upcoming game’s experience. The limited-time trial will let audiences create ten characters, play through the opening areas, and progress up to level 25. While all player characters will be wiped after the beta, players are still encouraged to max out their adventurers because special awards await anyone who hits specific leveling and progress milestones.
However unless you participated in the Early Access beta, you will only have three days to reach max level and earn a special Beta Wolf Pack cosmetic. Is that enough time? Probably, but you’ll have to work fast and farm a little extra Xp.
Diablo 4 Beta: How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 25?
In many level-based games, character levels accrue quickly in the beginning, but that rate slows down exponentially the further you get in the journey. The same is true in Diablo 4. While you...

Why complicate matters? “The Swarm” – which premiered its first three episodes at the Berlinale Series – is one of those expensive pan-global coproductions necessitating copious logistics, not least a carefully observed quota of performers from each territory pumping money into the production pot. Its opener generates a not inconsiderable carbon footprint, whisking us from Peru to Canada and thence the Scottish Highlands.
The series title, meanwhile, invites confusion with not just 1978’s infamous Michael Caine venture – a disaster movie in all senses – but Donald Glover and Janine Nabers’ Prime Video-bound “Swarm,” itself launching next month.
In and of itself, however, this eight-parter proves reassuringly straightforward and familiar. Its briny pulp – dredged from Frank Schätzing’s 2004 novel, a Central European bestseller originally earmarked for big-screen adaptation by the late Dino De Laurentiis – preys heavily on viewer fears of ecological collapse, and what might be lurking for us all beneath the planet’s watery depths.

The German Netflix series “1899” has been canceled after one season, series-co-creator Baran bo Odar confirmed on Instagram Monday in a message co-signed by co-creator Jantje Freise.
“With a heavy heart we have to tell you that ‘1899’ will not be renewed,” Odar wrote. “We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a second and third season as we did with ‘Dark.’ But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s life.”
“We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure,” he added, “We love you. Never forget.”

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

Netflix’s “1899” is behind a new record-high demand for German content around the globe in November, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
It has been about two years since Netflix’s first German-language original series, “Dark,” helped drive higher demand for German content around the world. By the time the third and final season of the show premiered at the end of June 2020, total global demand for shows from Germany was more than three times what it had been in January 2019. However, in the two years since the finale of “Dark,” global demand for German content has largely stagnated without seeing the clear gains of previous years. A recent upward trend could signal that demand for German content around the world is making gains again.

Making its debut on History back in 2013, "Vikings" delivered a visceral, bone-crunching journey to the eighth-century Scandinavia and the age of the Vikings. The gritty, violent saga told the story of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a farmer who became a warrior and, ultimately, a king. Another part of the series' ongoing storylines involved his first wife, the shieldmaiden Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), their son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), and various other characters who were introduced over the course of the show's six seasons.
As "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst explained to Looper, the writer enlisted a Viking historian to explore some of the most notable figures from that era. He wound up honing in on Ragnar because he was "the first great Viking leader to emerge from the myth and legend, and that was perfect in many ways because it was the beginning of the Viking age." While the series concluded in 2021, fans...

In reality, the two men had a more distant and hostile relationship. In their later years, long after the Romans had abandoned their expansionist ambitions in Germania, the two men fought each other with weary abandon, their dynastic dreams propelling their thirst for blood. But who exactly were these two men? What were they to each other? How accurate is their depiction in the series? And how did they live and die?

In 2020, Netflix’s Barbarians gave us the story of a boy who was taken from his Germanic tribe by the cruel and capricious Romans to be raised as one of their own, only to return to his homeland in adulthood to orchestrate one of the most audacious betrayals and shocking military victories in world history. Here was a hunk of history – unknown to many outside of Germany – that was fascinating and epoch-making; beautifully and bloodily realised across six punch-packing episodes; a banquet of battles, betrayals, bromance, romance, retribution and revenge that left us ravenous for more.
Yet, we worried for season two. The real Battle of Teutoburg Forest – in which the Barbarian tribes roundly trounced three Roman legions – was a truly seismic historical event, and this stout little series had burned through the build-up and the battle in a single season. Had Barbarians peaked too soon?...

Munich-based sales agency Beta Cinema has launched the international trailer (below) for “In a Land That No Longer Exists,” which has its international premiere on Oct. 21 in the competition section of the Rome Film Festival.
Aelrun Goette’s feature debut, which was released in Germany on Thursday by Tobis, is inspired by the director’s own experiences in East Germany during the late 80s, when she worked as a model for fashion magazine Sibylle, the so-called “Vogue of the East.”
The action takes place in East Berlin in the early summer of 1989, a few months before the fall of the Wall. Eighteen-year-old Suzie is thrown headfirst into the vibrant fashion scene in socialist East Germany when a photograph of her ends up on the cover of Sibylle.
Together with the glamorous Rudi, she dives into the underground subculture working on their own fantastic fashion designs. When she falls in love...
