Kurzeme Fortress is a true story based on the book "Andris Where Are You?". The story is of debut Director Kelly Hetherington's Grandmother Millija, her first love Voldemars and their baby Andris. Voldemars is a young Latvian soldier prior to WW2 when he is caught up as Russia decides to invade Latvia in 1939 and he is forced into the Red Army then captured and made a POW when Hitler invades Latvia only one year later. Incredibly in 1943 Voldemars is forced into a German uniform with 180,000 young men and pushed to the Eastern front. Millija is left alone with their child Andris.
