After debuting it for D23 Brazil attendees, Marvel has released wide a new trailer for Thunderbolts*, the team-up movie that will continue the character arcs for Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes and John Walker, which were last visited in assorted Disney+ TV series.

(The asterisk seen in the film’s title was retroactively added earlier this year, and while no one has detailed its meaning, it will have one. Of note, Bucky in the trailer above suggests the “Thunderbolts” name won’t stick.)

The extended trailer debuted at the first-ever Brazil D23 fan event on Saturday. David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the film, was there to present the trailer to the audience.

The Thunderbolts are essentially the answer to DC’s Suicide Squad — both are teams of villains and antiheroes forced to undergo dangerous missions for the good of mankind. Exclusive: Universal Pictures is looking to get back in business with its Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star as sources tell Deadline the studio has landed the rights to Julianna Baggott’s short story The Hider with Robert Downey Jr. eyed to star. After going through something of an existential crisis over the past couple of years, Marvel Studios is finally getting its footing back under it. This year only held one Marvel movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, and it was a smash success. On the television front, Agatha All Along is now playing on Disney+, which is the only live-action Marvel show to drop on the platform since Echo premiered back in January. Marvel is going for quality over quantity now, after a while of doing the latter.

And now we have our first look at another of the studio's upcoming movies: Thunderbolts*. We've known this film was coming for a while, but the asterisk in the title only made its debut this morning.

Several upcoming Marvel Studios film and TV shows, including “Thunderbolts*,” “Daredevil: Born Again” and “Ironheart,” all got first looks in a special 85th anniversary video released by Marvel on Thursday.

The video zooms through 85 years of Marvel history. It includes everything from the colorful pages of creator Stan Lee’s original comic books to “Iron Man,” the movie that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to everything in between — even this summer’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine” made it in.

Near the end of the video, fans get an official first look at Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk from next year’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” the return of Charlie Cox’s blind vigilante in “Daredevil: Born Again,” Dominque Thorne’s high-tech Riri Williams in “Ironheart” and the super-powered, villainous cast of “Thunderbolts*,” including Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova.

Disney has been fined $36,000 in the February death of a crew member working on the Marvel series “Wonder Man.”

A Cal/Osha investigation determined that the wooden catwalk which 41-year-old lighting technician J.C. “Spike” Osorio fell from was “deteriorated” and gave way “suddenly and without warning.”

The fatal accident occurred on Feb. 6 at Stage 3 at the Radford Studio Center in Studio City.

“The deteriorated ledger was weakened likely due to age, environmental conditions and repeated stress loads over many decades,” according to a statement issued by the agency, which levied two penalties of $18,000 each against Marvel parent company Disney.

They concluded that Osorio was standing on the weakened section of the catwalk, when “suddenly and without warning, the ledger supporting the floorboard broke apart and collapsed…. The employee fell 41 feet and forcefully impacted the ground below.”

Cal/Osha also issued two $22,5000 citations to the nearly 100-year-old Radford Studio Center.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set to step into a new era thanks to the return of Robert Downey Jr. who will now be playing the fan-favorite villain, Doctor Doom, in the superhero world. While we are quite excited to see how Kevin Feige will pull it off, there are a couple of questions at the back of our minds that are still bothering us, especially regarding Jonathan Majors’ Kang and Eternals.

Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to hit between $438-$440 million globally this weekend. The opening also puts the film in eighth place on the highest domestic opening list.

This weekend, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman brought the boom with the third “Deadpool” film. The film is expected to bring in around $205 million at the domestic box office. This puts the film in eighth place above “Black Panther” ($202 million) and behind “The Avengers” ($207 million.) The highest film spot is for “Avengers: End Game” at $357 million.

Internationally, the film hit about $233 million.

It’s not bad for an R-rated film. Traditionally, these films don’t perform as well because the audience is more limited, but “Deadpool & Wolverine” is slashing its way through and winning big at the box office.

Initial estimates for the domestic box office were around $160-$170 million; even higher estimates were at $190 million to maybe $200 million.

Marvel’s newest super-team, the Thunderbolts, made their San Diego Comic-Con debut on Saturday via first-look footage — and a relatively tight-lipped cast — during the MCU panel.

The entire cast joined the Hall H stage with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, including David Harbour in costume as Red Guardian. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always had a bit of a boys' club vibe. The first official phase of the franchise that built up to "The Avengers" was spearheaded by Tony Stark's hard-partying ladies' man Tony Stark, while the most significant female members of the MCU to date have always been written as, at best, eye-rolling foils forced to acknowledge that most of their male colleagues are overgrown children who come through in the clutch when resolving a crisis that is partially of their own making.

This isn't much of a departure from the almost exclusively male-drawn and -written comic books of the 1960s-1980s that inspired the mostly male-directed MCU films. Aside from a boy scout like Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) or a cerebral conjuror like Doctor Strange, these guys have a good time off the clock. In a way, they have a kind of frat boy mentality.

Kevin R. Wright’s MCU timeline has come to a close. The Loki executive producer and now-former VP of production and development at Marvel Studios has exited his position to produce original film and TV projects, independently. Wright was one of the central creative figures behind the Tom Hiddleston-led Loki, which is widely considered to be the crown jewel of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ slate. The 44-year-old film and television star is excited to embrace a new chapter of her life. However, she says she might return to Hollywood one day if the right opportunity comes calling.

Lilly announced her departure from the limelight via Instagram, saying she’s joyful about her decision and feels like she’s exactly where she belongs. The post includes 20-year-old footage of Lilly saying she’d like to retire at a young age and a video of the great Maya Angelou articulating the act of moving on from something you love to do something more fulfilling with the time you have left.

“I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision,” Lilly wrote to her fans on Instagram. “Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings.

Chris Pratt paid tribute to his late stunt double Tony McFarr in a heartfelt message on social media in which Pratt remembered their time on several movie sets together. McFarr was Pratt’s stunt double on some of the actor’s biggest films, including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” franchises. McFarr died May 13 at the age of 47.

“Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr,” Pratt wrote. “We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I’ll never forget his toughness. I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of ‘Guardians 2’) and got several staples in his head came right back to work ready to go again. He was an absolute stud.”

“He was always a gentleman and professional,” Pratt added. “He’ll be missed.

Tony McFarr, a professional stunt performer best known in Hollywood for his work as action star Chris Pratt’s double in the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises, died in Florida this week. McFarr was 47 years old.

The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office in Orlando told The Hollywood Reporter that McFarr died on Monday and that a cause of death is still pending as of Friday morning. His death was also posted on the website of the Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island, Florida. But, according to a staff member at the funeral home, his obituary was removed at the request of his family.

On Thursday. TMZ reported that McFarr’s mother, Donna, told the outlet that her son’s death at his home in Orlando was “unexpected and shocking.” On Friday, Pratt wrote a message on Instagram mourning the loss of his colleague and friend.

Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" was released in February 2023 and was the first notable comic book-based bomb of the year. The film was notoriously re-jiggered throughout its production, with massive and expensive SFX being finalized up to the last minute. The official budget ballooned to $200 million, although separate reports have pegged the price tag as being closer to that of Disney's notorious box office misfire "John Carter" (which cost $263 million to make). "Quantumania" still grossed $464 million, but that's considered low for a Marvel movie.

Throughout 2023, more bombs dropped as superhero movies either lost money or were considered disappointments. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Flash," "Blue Beetle," "The Marvels," and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" all tanked, and while many went to see "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3," it felt like the last kick in a closing series.

As the actor promoted his Apple TV+ series Franklin, Douglas opened up about the Marvel film in which he played Dr. Hank Pym. Ahead of the third film in the Ant-Man saga, the actor said he asked for his character to die.
