Greg Flakus was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines and traveled around the world in the 1970s. From 1980 to 2017 he was a correspondent and also shot and edited video reports for the Voice of America. He ran VOA news bureaus and traveled internationally as well as domestically. He contributed news reports and documentary features for both radio and television during that time. in 2015 he directed the half-hour-long documentary "Legends of the Blues."
Flakus left VOA after a stint in Washington, DC at the end of June, 2017. He is now an independent producer as well as occasional actor, writer and director based in Houston, Texas.
