After a terrorist bomb wipes out Sarajevo, one man puts his power over language to a sinister use in order to divide the world into one half of constant genocide and the other free of terrorism.
Genocidal Organ (Gyakusatsu Kikan) is the anime adaption of Japanese science fiction writer Project Itoh and is directed by Shûkô Murase. Set in the near future of 2020 in a post-terrorism world, first world countries have sacrificed civil rights in exchange for safety, security and surveillance whilst poorer nations have been plunged into genocide civil wars courtesy of a mysterious mastermind known as John Paul. To put an end to this, the American Government agencies send in high tech soldiers who have had all emotion blocked, led by Captain Clavis Shepard, to capture the man responsible for these events.

Despite its ambitious futuristic reach and some amazing visuals, this violent anime is inert and unconvincing
Genocidal Organ is a violent anime, based on the cult novel by Japanese Sf author Satoshi Itō, who wrote under the pen name Project Itoh and died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 34. This is a widely anticipated film – a live-action version by Park Chan-wook is reportedly being discussed – but, for all its ambitious futuristic reach and some occasionally amazing visuals, I have to confess to finding it inert and glib.
It is set in a time after Sarajevo has been wiped out by a terrorist nuclear bomb and the resulting horror has caused wealthy nations to become high-security fortresses, where citizens have abandoned civil rights in exchange for surveillance and security. Meanwhile, poorer countries have unravelled into genocidal civil wars that are apparently being masterminded by a mysterious American called John Paul.

An uncompromising examination of the human condition against the backdrop of ultra-violence, Genocidal Organ is a thought-provoking thrill ride from one of Japan’s greatest sci-fi minds. A definite staple for science fiction and anime fans alike.

Based on the homonymous novel by Project Itoh, which received the Philip K. Dick Award in 2010, “Harmony” takes place in a utopia of the future, after nuclear war and disease have plagued and destroyed a large part of the world. As the planet’s population has deteriorated vastly, the focus of this utopia is towards the common good rather towards the individual. In that fashion, two technologies were implemented: WatchME, a system of nano-machines implanted in every adult to monitor all of his bodily functions; and Medicare, that treats the problems WatchMe finds.
The story revolves around Tuan, a girl who has fled from the utopian environment of Japan to sub-Saharan Africa, supposedly to observe the...

If you're a fan of director Chan Park-wook, you'll be happy to hear that he has set up another directing gig. The Korean director will develop an adaptation of the 2007 Japanese sci-fi novel Genocidal Organ. The book was written by Project Itoh, and the news comes from The Tracking Board. Here's a brief description of the story:
Set in a time when Sarajevo was obliterated by a homemade nuclear device, the story reflects a world inundated with genocide. An American man by the name of John Paul seems to be responsible for all of this and intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd treks across the wasteland of the world to find him and the eponymous "genocidal organ."
This sounds like the perfect film project for Chan-wook to take on. There are no details surrounding the adaptation, but Sean Daniel and his production company, The Sean Daniel Company, are set to produce it.

Sean Daniel ("Everybody Wants Some," "Ben-Hur") will produce. Manglobe was previous developing an anime adaptation to be written and directed by Shuko Murase, but that project was shelved indefinitely after the company went bankrupt.
