For the past few years now, anime fans have been able to check out some of the latest installments of the Pretty Cure (aka Precure ) franchise. The metaseries started back in 2004 and positioned itself as the magical girl equivalent to Super Sentai (the Japanese predecessors to Power Rangers ) and Kamen Rider with a new anime coming out every year. In essence, each Precure anime series follows a similar formula: a group of girls inadvertently attain magical powers and use them to fight against evil. But each series brings something unique to the table, and I’m all too excited to be able to share how much I’ve enjoyed Precure for more than a decade leading up to its international availability. My Adventures with Superman recently concluded its second season on July 21, with the addition of Supergirl to the main cast of the show. The second season was a roller coaster ride that didn't let up until the very end, but along the way, there were revelations and easter eggs that could point to what comes next for Clark and his allies in future seasons.
My Adventures with Superman creators tease new villlains
During the My Adventures with Superman panel at Sdcc 2024, executive producers Jake Wyatt, Josie Campbell, and Brendan Clogher unveiled the new threats to Superman and crew that they'll have to face in season three of the show (which doesn't have a release date as of this posting).
While there are some familiar faces, such as Amanda Waller, Deathstroke, and Lex Luthor (now with his signature bald head) among others, the newcomer to the villain lineup is none other than Cyborg Superman.

My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. So, if you love the heart, optimism, great story, and fantastic animation...

Superman is one of those superheroes who has always gained wide momentum among fans, becoming their favorite in the least time possible and continuing to rule their hearts through the indelible marks left behind by their stories. That being said, he has also earned multiple animated and live-action adaptations over the years, including the most recent one under James Gunn.
Superman. However, while all of those other animated projects gave the feeling of being like yet another cartoon show despite their outstanding storylines, this first animated series under Gunn’s reign as the co-ceo of the DC Universe, i.e. My Adventures with Superman, gave a different vibe. This was because it had the wildest idea for its core animation: Its main theme being anime-inspired!

Josie Campbell, a writer on several recent animated projects released by DC, weighed in on the difference between Superman and Batman.
It’s the perennial question: Batman or Superman? Some fans may flock to the Crusader for his enormous wealth, cool cars, and high-tech gadgets. Others might find the appeal in Kal-El’s friendly face and unwavering sense of optimism.
And there’s no mistaking that when it comes to the big screen, Bruce Wayne has a bit more experience than Clark Kent. But exactly why has Bats been such an enduring figure in cinema history while Superman’s movies just haven’t broken through as effectively?

My Adventures with Superman producer Josie Campbell discussed diversity in the show, particularly pertaining to Lois Lane's casting, in a recent interview.
The animated DC series, streaming on Max, took a realistic approach to early Superman — at least, as realistic as Superman stories about aliens, the Multiverse, and more can be. Clark Kent's civilian life got much story focus, characters were flawed, rather than icons of perfection, and not everyone was either strictly good or strictly bad.
Campbell previously discussed that part of this was making the "show look like the world around us," a goal that was approached by increasing the diversity of Superman's supporting cast. One example of this was the choice to make Lois Lane, a character historically portrayed as caucasian, Korean.

Long live the Legion!
Since early in their existence, I have been a diehard fan of the Legion of Super-Heroes, so I am immediately drawn to anything featuring them. The current Warner Animation release, Legion of Super-Heroes, certainly makes me smile—that is, when I’m not grimacing.
The film picks up on the current animated continuity so we have a Supergirl (Meg Donnelly), relatively new to Earth. She’s a headstrong teen still coming into her powers, and for some reason, Superman (Darren Criss), who already had the benefit of Pa Kent’s tutelage, can’t manage her. When Batman (Jansen Ackles) points out she’s a threat in her current condition, the Man of Steel decides she needs more help than he can give.

It's been nearly two years since "My Adventures With Superman," an animated collaboration between HBO Max and Cartoon Network was announced alongside a new, noir-inspired "Batman" animated series from J.J. Abrams and "The Batman" director Matt Reeves.
Starring Jack Quaid as Clark Kent/Superman, Alice Lee as Lois Lane, and Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen, "My Adventures With Superman" was pitched as a show centered on the trio of friends as twenty-somethings interning for the Daily Planet, and finding themselves as individuals along the way. With its familiar, cutesy aesthetics, it was stacked up to be a promising, family-friendly series to add to the animated catalog on HBO Max.

There’s a certain charm to these DC Universe animated movies that’s unshakable. Working on an animated project for Warner Bros. Discovery has become a game of chicken with CEO David Zaslav in charge, as every week seems to bring about another round of shows that are either scrubbed from streaming platforms, or are outright cancelled during production. At this point, it can be difficult to keep up with a project that's actually going to get released. Thankfully, it appears that an upcoming DC animated series for Cartoon Network has avoided the chopping block, at least for now.
First announced in 2021, series creator Jake Wyatt's "My Adventures with Superman" will see "The Boys" star Jack Quaid voicing the titular superhero, while Alice Lee will play Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. While larger plot details are being kept under wraps, the synopsis indicates that it will show Superman through a youthful lens, while staying true to the character's roots:

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Clark Kent and Lois Lane in an all-new, family-friendly animated series with Jack Quaid (“The Boys”) and Alice Lee (“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”) voicing America’s most recognizable super-sweethearts. HBO Max and Cartoon Network announced a two-season series order for “My Adventures With Superman,” which follows the Man of Steel and the dogged Daily Planet reporter in their twenties, as well as their best friend Jimmy Olsen, as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative news team.
The serialized, coming-of-age story sees Superman build up his secret identity and embrace his role as the hero of Metropolis, while Lois, now a star journalist, takes aspiring photographer Jimmy under her wing. A new animated Batman series is coming to HBO Max and Cartoon Network from J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, the latter of whom is directing the next live-action take on the Gotham hero.
“Batman: Caped Crusader,” was given a straight-to-series order by the two WarnerMedia-owned platforms. Bruce Timm, who co-created the ’90s-era “Batman: The Animated Series,” will executive produce with Abrams and Reeves.
The new series will utilize “state-of-the-art animation techniques” and “reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”
“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world,” Reeves,...

It’s somehow almost 2021, which means the DC Universe is about to enter its Future State, the big two month crossover that kicks off the new year by pausing its regular line, and diving deep into the wild, varied timelines and parallel universes for new angles from fresh creators. And we are happy to have your exclusive first look at the February covers and solicitations for the Justice League family of books.
Since half the fun of solicits is trying to piece together what’s happening in the book from the 50 words and a cover, we decided to engage in some wild, semi-informed speculation on what might be coming from DC’s event.
Let’s get right to it: Future State has a very strong Seven Soldiers of Victory vibe.
The original Seven Soldiers were briefly a superteam from the ’40s, brought back sporadically whenever a comic needed a nostalgia boost,...

The beauty of telling stories in a multiverse is the infinite possibility offered by the infinite places and infinite times to set those stories in. DC’s embrace of their multiverse has historically been one of its strongest features, but Crisis on Infinite Earths muted that ability for decades after, and only recently have comics creators started to enthusiastically dive into the concept again. And with Dark Nights: Death Metal wailing towards its conclusion, it looks like DC is set to go head first into the Bleed again.
Future State is the next big DC Comics event. Following the conclusion of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s explosive reintroduction of the infinite multiverse-slash-musing on what might happen if we let evil get a couple of high profile wins in (gee no real world analogue to that story at all no sir), the entire DC line will be taking a pause for two months,...
