Film critics agree that Amr Youssef has the ability to play various roles and is always keen on exploring his hidden talents. This clearly shows in the roles he played since he started his acting career in 2007 opposite Egyptian veteran actor Nour El-Sherif, who Amr considers his godfather.
Playing more than 35 different roles in film, television, and on the radio, Youssef has collaborated with many important directors, like Tarek Alarian, Hadi El-Bagoury, Amr Salama, Khaled Marei, Mohamed Shaker Khodeir, and Husain El-Minbawi.
Youssef holds a bachelor's degree in law with an international law specialization.
He made his acting debut in season one of hit series El Daly, in which he played the role of the journalist Adham Fares and continued until season three in 2011.
Shortly after, he got his big break when he landed the role of Karim George in the TV hit El Mowaten X, which gained him wide audience acclaim.
Throughout his career, Youssef has collaborated with internationally recognized directors, including Egyptian director Hadi El-Bagoury in his films Wahid Saheeh (The Right One) (2011) and Hepta: The Last Lecture (2016) - the highest-grossing romantic film in the history of Egyptian cinema - Khaled Marei in his TV hit Niran Sadeeqa (Friendly Fire) (2013), and American Egyptian director Hisham El-Essawy in his 2015 film Al-Thaman (The Price).
Amr also collaborated with the internationally acclaimed director Amr Salama and played one of his most successful TV roles in the 2018 TV series Tayea alongside Saba Mubarak and Amr Abdel-Gelil, playing a man from upper Egypt for the first time in his career.
Tayea' received wide critical and audience acclaim across the Arab world, and Youssef's performance earned him many awards, including the Best Arab Actor in a TV role at the Egyptian Catholic Center Cinema Festival, the DG Excellence Award at the Dear Guest Festival, the NRJ Egypt Cup Award for Best Actor, and an honor at the 2018 Nile Drama Awards.
Amr also starred in many TV hits, including Zarf Eswed (A Black Envelope) (2015), which won him the Dear Guest Special Award, and Grand Hotel (2016), which was directed by Mohamed Shaker Khodeir, written by Tamer Habib, and is the first Egyptian series to stream on Netflix.
In 2015, Youssef starred in the box-office hit Welad Rizk (Sons of Rizk) by Tarek Alarian, where he played the character of Rabea. The film co-stars Ahmed Ezz, Ahmad Al-Fishawy, Ahmed Dawood, and Karim Kassem.
After the film's major success, in 2019, Youssef starred in the sequel, Welad Rizk 2: A'wdat Osoud Al-Ard (Sons of Rizk 2). Welad Rizk 2 made more than EGP 100m at the box office and won him the DG Excellence Award at the Dear Guest Festival.
His role in Grand Hotel won him the Best Actor Award at the 17th Murex D'Or in Lebanon.
In 2017, he starred in the TV series Asham Iblis (Devil's Wish), and in 2020, he landed a starring role in the series Nemra 2, which premiered on Shahid VIP.
Amr's latest works in 2022 include the TV series Waad Iblis (The Devil's Promise), which was directed by the British Colin Teague and is now available on Shahid VIP.
He is also gearing up for the 2023 Ramadan marathon, in which he will appear in Karim El-Sobky's romantic TV series She'o opposite Dina El-Sherbiny and Mohamed Mamdouh.
Besides acting, Amr graced the covers of several international magazines, like GQ Middle East.
