The Slasher franchise is evolving.
The latest chapter in the thrilling anthology is headed to Shudder, and we have our first deadly look.
Premiering August 12 on Shudder, Slasher: Flesh & Blood follows a wealthy but dysfunctional family that gathers for a reunion on a secluded island only to learn they’ll be pitted against one another in a cruel game of life and death, all while being stalked by a mysterious masked killer.
Nothing is what it seems, and no one is safe as the tension- and the body count- ratchets up.
As with the past installments of the series, Slasher: Flesh & Blood will combine elements of traditional murder mystery with the intense horror and bold kills that audiences have come to expect.
The trailer is perfect, showing a family invited to the island with the aim of winning deadly games to inherit the family fortune.

One thing the new mockumentary “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein” does quite well is prove that there are perks to appearing on a streaming service’s signature hit.
David Harbour, the stolid and familiar presence from Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” is given the opportunity to cut loose here with a broad, loopy half-hour that feels a bit like one long comedy sketch, with all that implies. He’s evidently having a great deal of fun playing his fictional late father, a pompous theater actor who acted in his own play about Dr. Frankenstein and recorded the piece for posterity. But even half an hour is a generous amount of time to give to a story that feels, well, sketchy, with reversals whose pile-up is more novel than truly funny and with jokes that feel underwritten at best.
Harbour also plays himself in the present day, working to uncover more...

Bursts of insubordination from her crew is arguably the least of Commander Niko Breckinridge’s worries in this brand-new trailer for Netflix’s Another Life — the first such teaser to hint at what the upcoming sci-fi thriller is truly about.
Set for a Thursday, July 25 launch date and hailing from from Aaron Martin (Killjoys), Another Life follows Niko (played by Katee Sackhoff) as she and the crew of her space exploration ship, the Solvare, face unimaginable dangers — on what might very well be a one-way mission — as they seek out an alien world that has deposited a mysterious structure on Earth.

Stranger Things’ David Harbour plays his “father” in this Netflix mockumentary about an ill-fated Frankenstein TV play.
Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein is a title that will make a lot more sense if you accept the fact that “Frankenstein’s Monster” – not “Frankenstein” – is the actual name of Mary Shelley’s resurrected title character. Consequently, it will then become clear to you that this Netflix offering is not an adaptation of said story, but, rather, a mockumentary about a TV production of it, with which Stranger Things’ David Harbour creates an eccentric pseudo-history.
Indeed, Harbour briefly put aside his Stranger Things small town police chief Jim Hopper, to play, well, David Harbour – a fictionalized version of his “father,” named David Harbour Jr., an eccentric thespian resembling a late-life Orson Welles who, via 40-year-old lost footage, is depicted in the midst of a hilariously quixotic attempt to...

A review of tonight's The Americans season finale coming up just as soon as I watch the Super Bowl without you... "I think it's time." -Gabriel As Gabriel notes to Philip and Elizabeth in a scene that threatens to upend all of our expectations for the series' final two seasons, their assignment to America was never intended to be a permanent one. Plans were already underway to have William come home after delivering the Lassa virus to the Centre, and once he gets captured by the FBI, the risk to the Jennings family becomes so great that it makes more sense to send them all home — even if that "home" would be a foreign concept in every way to Paige and Henry — than to keep them in the field and risk their capture. With two seasons to go — and with Philip's son Mischa on his way to America to search...

Will the Jennings clan soon be singing “Back in the U.S.S.R.”?
On Wednesday’s Season 4 finale of The Americans, Elizabeth and Philip’s asset, William, was captured by the FBI. While on his deathbed, thanks to the bio-weapon with which he infected himself, he spilled some intel to G-man Stan about the spy couple. He fell short of revealing their false identities, but an unaware Elizabeth and Philip had to assume the worst as their handler Gabriel urged them to pack up...

Alex Ozerov understands upheaval.
The 23-year-old actor was born in Russia, moved to Ukraine when he was young, and when his parents divorced he settled in England with his mother. She eventually came to Canada and Ozerov had to wait three years before he was allowed to join her.
It was while living with his mom in Toronto that he saw something that changed his life.
“I was watching TV, the Disney Channel I think, and I saw these kids having so much fun and being so confident and secure with themselves on camera,” says Ozerov on the line from his apartment in Los Angeles. “I was like, ‘Wow!’ I was never a secure kid, never confident, my self-esteem was quite low with moving around a lot, so I saw those kids and I go, ‘Mom, I want to try this, I want to do this.’” That spark ignited an acting career.

Natasha
Directed by David Bezmozgis
Canada, 2015
Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival
Mark (Alex Ozerov) is a typical suburban teenager. He doesn’t want to get a summer job (who needs one when selling pot will trump any minimum wage gig?), he parties with his friends, and he watches porn. When his uncle marries a Russian immigrant Mark and his new cousin Natasha (Sasha K. Gordon) start an unexpected, illicit relationship.
David Bezmozgis’ second feature tries to tackle a lot. Issues of the immigrant experience, Arab-Israeli conflict, and sex worker exploitation all come out, at least as background. Though the film bites off a lot, it’s really digestible in the simple conversations between Mark and Natasha. The two have a decent chemistry that easily transcends the rest of the movie, which is sometimes awash in cliché and clumsiness.
There are believability issues in the film. Sometimes it’s small and insignificant:...

The Toronto International Film Festival expanded their lineup today, announcing a batch of homegrown films that will walk the red carpet in September. And set for the Discovery slate is "Guidance," the feature debut by Pat Mills, who wears a variety of hats in bringing his dark comedy to the big screen. Writing, directing and taking the lead role in the film, "Guidance" follows a mid-30s former child actor whose life is spinning out of control. He's been diagnosed with skin cancer, he just got fired from a recent acting job, and things look like they can't get any worse. He winds up landing a job as a high school guidance counselor, but even then, it's just another step in a downward spiral that will lead to a ridiculous crime. Having previously shown two shorts at Tiff, organizers and programmers see lots of potential in Mills, as "Guidance" will...

Telefilm Canada has confirmed its financial support of nearly $13 million of Canadian tax payers' money towards the production of nine English-language feature films through the 'Canada Feature Film Fund', although there doesn't seem to be anything culturally 'Canadian' about most of their selections, other than the crews that will be working on them.
Among the films receiving money include a psycho horror with a demonic 'Santa Claus', a bio pic about a former Queen of Sweden, the 'relationship' between 'James Dean' and a photographer, a thriller involving a Satanic child abuse sex ring, and an inflatable Sex Doll drug smuggling story:
The films are "After the Ball" (Sean Garrity), "A Christmas Horror Story" (Steven Hoban, Grant Harvey, Brett Sullivan), "Aloft" (Claudia Llosa), "A Worthy Companion" (Jason Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez), "Life" (Anton Corbijn), "Regression" (Alejandro Amenabar), "Rest Home" (Michael Rowe), "The Girl King" (Mika Kaurismäki) and "Zoom" (Pedro Morelli...
